+denny loverin Yous eriously think Putin does this for the people of Russia? lol He holds many of these long live tv events because the Russian government has the Russians by the balls, even if they publicly disagree with anything he says, they´d be jailed. I find it mindboggling how any westerner can be as naive as to believe Putin means well for his country. His ego is why he is on tv so much, his ego and nothing more.
Ignorance is what a person has if he believes Russia is a democracy and
people there are not taken advantage of by their government. It´s clear
the people of Russia are very proud people (the same goes for the North
Koreans and Chinese), and that pride makes them defend a government
that keeps them down. I suppose you believe Putin is great because
westerners have the freedom to express themselves without being jailed or
beaten by government? Or maybe you believe Putin is good because westerners have
many more opportunities to improve their lives and their families lives
than the people of Russia and China do?
There is no doubt that all governments are corrupt, but the western
governments allow its people to progress, in technology, financially,
etc. In Russia the government knows very well how dedicated and proud
Russians are of their country, and they use that to their own advantage
by making sure government officals and their families are taken care of
while the Russian people are left for the table scraps. A Russian is
happy even if they have very little as their parents had even less, so
in their eyes the Russian government has made their lives better than
their parents had it ie the past. Putin knows this and plays the Russian
people very well. Western governments could do the same thing to its
own people, but western governments do not.
      Westerners stand up and
speak out about their government much more than the Russians do. When
something bothers a westerner he will take action, he will stand up for
what he belives in. Probably because a westerner does not need to fear
being jailed or prosecuted for doing so by Putin.
Russians would actually fit the defintion of being sheep more than
westerners because they are less likely to speak out and more likely to
just follow the government whether it is due to pride or due to fear.
There is a reason Russians leave Russia in droves; and there is a reason
they come to the west. Because they know they will have more rights and
freedom and a better future by leaving their country and moving to the
west. Westerners do not line up in droves to move to Russia or China,
you realize? It´s the other way around.
Most likely you´re just one of the westerners who are naive and think Putin ia ideal
because his intelligence fools you. Russia needs an intelligent leader who
knows how to play his cards right to keep their own people down because
they have no plans to share the wealth with their nation; it is all
corrupt and a nation run to keep the government officials and their
families very well off and give the people one or two little things to
keep them happy. if you are a Russian, It´s a shame for you though, that you are not one of
the Russians who actually can experience what it is like to live in the
west and everything we have, either out of stubborness or ignorance or
pride. You would have a much better future for you, your family and your
children. If you are a westerner, it´s a shame youi do not live in Russia so you can apparently be in a country where the best leader in the world, as yous eem to feel is the case. Hope you enjoy prison while you´re there, though, because 50% of the things you do in the west will land your ass in a Russian prison. You can throw away your opinion right now.

Yes, this CBC video is arrogant propaganda, which misrepresents what Putin said, and also takes several swipes at Putin's annual call-in, for which he is largely, perhaps even entirely not pre-briefed. This CBC video did take things out of context, but it didn't really twist facts as much as it avoided all facts, entirely. I also don't think it is a good job, but that it is a wicked and rotten job, performed by people who are not ethical or truthful enough, or intelligent enough that they should be presenting themselves as reporters of news to people. They are disingenuous, and snakes.

Your wrong, look democracy isnt perfect. even in ancient Athens where democracy was started the people voted Pericles to rule them for 31 years until his death. his running mates would step down so he could win every time because they knew that he was the best that they had.
Russia still holds democratic elections but because Putin has done so much for his country and is adored by the majority of his people he is consistently voted in time and time again.
They remember the time when they had a puppet government of the west and how bad that was under Boris Yeltsin. It is very wrong for you to compare him to Stalin one of the worst mass murderers of all time.

+Steve Polychronopolous Well I think that if the TPP is truly ratified then we can kiss any semblance of "sovereignty" goodbye since a foreign corporation can sue our country to change our laws over projected losses due to a law or bylaw that they feel impedes them. Personally, I believe that we live in plutocracies these days rather than democracies. Frankly, I want to live in a world where we use "diplomacy" to get along with the rest of the world rather then childish "good guy - bad guy" scenarios. The human race should be uniting to face real world problems rather then letting our governments, or media, divide us.

Putin unlike north American politicians has learned his craft from the bottom up. A special services officer of the Russian military and an intelligence officer. He has served in many positions in the Russian political arena and so he is not only brilliant he understands how the various departments in foreign countries operate. His deep understanding allows him to intercept aggressive actions against Russia before they can be implemented. Case in point is his intervention of American operations in Syria.

When something bothers a westerner he will take action, he will stand up for what he belives in. Probably because a westerner does not need to fear being jailed or prosecuted for doing so.
Russians would actually fit the defintion of being sheep more than westerners because they are less likely to speak out and more likely to just follow the government whether it is due to pride or due to fear.
There is a reason Russians leave Russia in droves; and there is a reason they come to the west. Because they know they will have more rights and freedom and a better future by leaving their country and moving to the west. Westerners do not line up ind roves to move to Russia or China, you realize? It´s the other way around.
Most likely you´re just one of the Russians who are naive and follow Putin because his intelligence fools you, that is understandable, and that is why he is your leader. Russia needs an intelligent leader who knows how to play his cards right to keep their own people down because they have no plans to share the wealth with their nation; it is all corrupt and a nation run to keep the government officials and their families veray well off and give the people one or two little things to keep them happy. It´s a shame for you though, that you are not one of the Russians who actually can experience what it is like to live in the west and everything we have, either out of stubborness or ignorance or pride. You would have a much better future for you, your family and your children.
With that said, some people deserve what they get, and I have a feeling that you deserve to live in Russia and to remain ignorant your entire life.

Jo1974 And he doesn't have his political rivals murdered. Putin has a lot of blood on his hands. The murder of opposition politician Boris Nemtsov
Anna Politkovskaya - 2006 The 48-year-old journalist, a prominent critic of Mr Vladimir Putin, was gunned down at her Moscow apartment block on 7 October 2006, the president's birthday.
Sergei Magnitsky- 2009 Lawyer Sergei Magnitsky died in police custody in November 2009 after allegedly being denied medical treatment and brutally beaten. He was investigating a multi-million tax fraud against the Russian state
Stanislav Markelov and Anastasia Baburova - 2009 Leading human rights lawyer Stanislav Markelov was gunned down in broad daylight on 19 January, 2009.
I will stop for now, but there is many more.Chew on those for now.
A new survey by the independent Levada Center pollster has found that their work might be of limited use - more than a quarter of the Russians questioned said they were reluctant to express their views in opinion polls.
Twenty-six percent of those questioned in the poll said they were averse to expressing their view on current affairs when surveyed, a poll published Friday on the Levada Center's website showed. Slightly fewer people, 23 percent, said they also felt uncomfortable about discussing such matters with their colleagues and 17 percent felt apprehensive even in a family context.
Almost half of those questioned, 49 percent, said they thought most Russians would be reticent to discuss current affairs when approached by pollsters.
The most popular explanation given for the aversion of speaking openly was fear of possible backlash on people's own lives - 56 percent of respondents thought fear of retribution was the main reason. One fifth of those questioned, 20 percent, said they thought people did not want to face the truth themselves.
