    I like this bike, and will probably buy one very soon, depending on availability, but I sure wish that Specialized would add someone to their design team that had some taste. The color choices for their bikes leaves a lot o be desired.

    Love your vids and see that you've ridden both the regular Stumpjumper and and the Epic Evo. I've been riding an old school fully ridged Surly Krampus the past 8 years and it's time for this 50 plus year old to upgrade to full suspension. I had my sites set on a Epic Evo Comp and have one on order from my LBS but the owner just told me he could offer me a sweet deal on a new Stumpjumper Expert which component wise is much better then the Evo Comp. Even thought the Krampus was a 29 plus it was still pretty snappy with aggressive geometry. Do you think I'd be happy with a Stumpjumper or will it feel sluggish? I no longer race but love good single track and we have a pretty good selection of all types of trails her in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I wish I could ride both but it's winter here and nobody has a Epic Evo to be found at a bike shop up here to even look at to compare.

    JC where do you place this relative to the Epic EVO? Is there a big difference in pedal/climbing efficiency between the two? I want something lighter and more nimble than the 2019 SJ 29er, just not sure the 2021 SJ is that bike being longer and slacker. Though I do like the steeper STA

    • @jctrails
      @jctrails  3 роки тому +2

      The Epic Evo being so light and having less travel its definitely easier to pedal for longer distances. The new Stumpy isn’t far off in the efficiency department but you are lugging around 4-5 more pounds.

    • @jctrails
      @jctrails  3 роки тому +2

      The TB has a sturdy planted feel like a mini enduro bike. The Stumpy feels lighter and not as stiff as the TB, which makes for a more playful ride. They climb about the same I would say, but the TB does provide better traction thru rock gardens.

      True. They are also poor value for the money. Great frames with poor to average kit. I have watched a few reviews now and JC didn't talk about climbing much. Most other reviews have said this is it's weak spot. I live where you have to climb everywhere to descend. Not a lot of fire roads.

    Loved the review. I live in the UK and i'm currently looking at this bike, specifically the Comp Carbon version. I currently ride a 6 year old 160/160 Cube Stereo and dont struggle on climbs but im a little concerned about dropping to a 140/130mm travel bike. Looking at the footage, a lot of what i ride is similar but i do like to ride natural trails from time to time and the odd day at bike park. I do small jumps but dont ride Black Trails, i stick to fast Blue & Red trails. Is the lower travel something to be concerned about in your opinion? Thanks.

      It’s hard to suggest a size for you. It depends if you like a long bike for stability or a short bike to flick around. The S3 is comfortable to pedal around for my 5’10” size, but I would probably go with a S4 with a short stem if I was doing extended descents.

      I’d go with the new expert. You get x01 and a grip 2 damper. My 19 stumpy expert had all gx stuff and basic level rockshox fork and shock.

    If you could only pick one bike and mostly ride choppy single track trails full of roots and rocks, do you pick the Epic Evo or the Stumpjumper? No major jumps/doubles either.

    • @jctrails
      @jctrails  3 роки тому

      It depends are you pedaling thru the rocks and roots or blasting thru it on a down hill?

    • @stin987
      @stin987 3 роки тому

      Pedalling uphill and moderate blasting hills. Paris Mtn State Park in Greenville SC. I just sold my Trek Stache hardtail so either bike would be a huge difference.

    • @stin987

      But that question was also for you. Pretend you had to pick between the two bikes. You can only pick one bike to ride all year. What would you (JC) pick?
