Thanks Patrick and Liv for posting on your round table with Jim Farley. It says a lot about a CEO that takes the time to do a road trip and meet with EV enthusiasts.
One subject I didn’t hear was being able to access the camera recordings. - Someday there could be a Wham-Bam-Pony cam. 😀
Great to see the Ford CEO to reach out to get good feedback. Looking forward to seeing if these feedbacks results into change!
Me too!
Wow....how lucky can you get. 😊😊😊😊😊
Great that you got to meet with Jim! I enjoy your channel, and as a previous Volkswagen ID 4owner and current mach e owner the thing I would like to see is an instant miles per kilowatt hour read out. That lets me know on road trips if I’m going to be able to make the next charger or not at the speed I’m driving and current wind speed, and direction. Just because I’ve averaged 3.1 doesn’t mean I’m going to average 3.1 for the next hundred miles. if I have now started gaining elevation, or the wind has changed, and I’m going into the wind instead of with the wind my efficiency is certainly going to change.
Yeah! The old Leaf that we are using has that (although it is sorta vague). But that would be super useful.
Love that the ad that preceded this video was for a MachE. Very appropriate.
Hey perfect!! We never know what ads UA-cam will put in our videos so that’s great! - Liv
Ford seems to be one of the very few manufacturers that get EVs and talk to users and none users and they learned a lot from F150 lighting sales
It's probably too late, but I wish that the Lightning had the ability to vent the window (like other Ford cars) either through the app or by using the remote.
10:50. Did you all talk about Blackberry QNX and ASIL D security levels for safety?
No, we didn't. Back at CES in January, we did talk with BlackBerry about QNX. Did you have a question about it? ua-cam.com/video/X8VX99emK4E/v-deo.htmlsi=p0fWNXE3h8RToytX
Great video. Thanks for the representation with Jim. It is appreciated. I hope you get future opportunities. Jim seems sincere and totally behind the product.
I'm so grateful we had this experience and I hope we get to have input again in the future! - Liv
Great video! I agree with all your feedback and dog mode cant come soon enough. If I was there the one piece if serious feedback I wouldve given is how Ford has handled the HVJB issue. I got stung by it back before the OTA when it would just brick your car, and it's good they at least stopped that with the OTA, but its really upsetting to see how many people continue to post in the forums and Facebook groups their "High voltage battery warning" and "Stop safely now" messages, confused about what to do, annoyed that its "their turn", Mach-Es getting towed away, etc. This really seems like a design flaw and the OTA didnt actually fix anything about the actual problem, but many owners think it did...Im always correcting people in the forums who say "I thought Ford fixed this with an update". I feel like Ford escaped major scrutiny about this for a long time (until NHTSA recently got wise recently) by issuing a "recall" that didn't actually fix the problem, and then everybody stopped talking about it, except for all the owners who it continues to happen to... people on road trips, vacations with family, and even across the border. I think it's terrible that Ford knows these can (and likely will continue to) fail but wont replace them until after the fact. Its creating a bad and confusing experience for some owners...even if its a minority, it shouldn't be anyone. Even I drive around every day knowing that my HVJB was replaced before the recall, so i know i probably have another faulty unit, and feel like I'm driving around in a ticking time bomb so to speak. The whole thing should've been handled better.
Thank you for sharing, Adam, I'm so sorry you have to deal with that. I appreciate you sharing your experience so other people are aware - Liv
Really appreciate that Ford took the time to meet with real EV owners and get feedback and not just from the lense of Ford products, but the industry as a whole.
Hope they can implement the additional information in the car (similar to service info in Teslas) and the dog mode. Would also like for them to continue to improve the app to show more real time info and connect to some other 3rd party apps to collect trip data over the life of the car.
I want/need to be able to get into an EV and drive it the same or better than I can in my ICE vehicle. Plenty of range, fast charging, are high on the list. Oh yeah, close to price parity too.
Mass adoption of EVs can't be inconvenient, or it won't happen at anywhere near the speed that the powers that be want it.
Hopefully, all the feedback you guys gave can be adopted in the next gen. vehicles.
I've been waiting for the US version of the Explorer, but it has to be US sized or it's a non-starter for me.
Great content from you two....keep it up!
I think good changes are coming! 💙⚡️thanks papa dave- Liv
Thanks for the video. It is going to be an interesting next couple of years for Ford.
Last year I went to Hamvention in Xenia, OH for the first time in my MME. I convoyed with three other hams in an ICE vehicle. I was concerned about them waiting around for charging so I warn them about the 40 minute charging times and I planned the charging stops before leaving. It turned out not to be a problem because their roaming around in Walmart or other stores resulted in the car charging over 80% for most of the stops.
Hello Patrick and Liv😊 thanks for this video great info..👍🏾
Hey Craig, so glad you enjoyed it. - Liv
Thank you so much. Please tell him as a Rideshare driver I want a Lincoln Navigator with 450 miles of range.
I can't think of a better couple to provide feedback, as you're so perceptive, experienced, and honest. I hope Farley did listen to your input, both positive and negative. "Pet mode" is a must nowadays with EVs. BlueCruise is already great, IMHO. I'm glad that Farley provided some teasers of upcoming models and ranges, and touched upon NACS. I wish he could have provided more details about the steps necessary: when the adapters will appear, at what cost, when Tesla will allow others to use those adapters at Superchargers; what plans they have for the problem of short cables. That was nice of him to show appreciation for your Fancy Pony! If I had been in the circle, I would have suggested the Ford forget about "subscription" services. I hate them, and loathe the idea of having to pay, for example, every three years for a car's ADA features to keep working.
Thanks so much for the kind words and the great input Mark! 💙- Liv
Great channel guys!
Sentry mode PLEASE :)
I used to use Dog mode to leave my teenagers in my Tesla when running errands when they wanted to stay in the car. The alarm would go off if they tried to get out. Then Camp mode came along - problem solved. As a family with older kids - we use camp mode in our Teslas every day.
How many times am I going to wave at the camera? 🤣🤣🤣 it was a pleasure to meet you guys and spend time with you all!
Great watch and thank you for the shout out for Marty and myself. We love you guys and your content. So happy Ford included us in this and other meetups. It’s a great company who shows they care about their customer base. Keep up the great content!
It was so wonderful to have this experience with you guys! You had such great input and you really are bringing together an incredible community! I hope we get the opportunity to join for more SoCalEVs gatherings! 💙- Liv
You guys need to do a road trip out to the east coast so the NorthEast Lightning and Mach-E Clubs can host you one of these days! Coast to Coast Ford EV Ford meetup? Jake? Emily? :)
Or perhaps the “Coasters” all drive to the midwest and meetup there… 😬
Absolutely epic ideas!! We miiiiight be coming that way soon so fingers crossed!! You guys have such an amazing community out there! - Liv
I always enjoy the information that you share! Thanks for your enthusiasm for Mach E, I really am hoping for pet mode 🐶
Really do appreciate that he is out there, trying the vehicles and talking with the owners/past-owners on how it is going and what the real fixes are, etc. Yeah the "free charging" thing is one of those that I think many car makers think is great way to get people in, but dont realize what it actually does to the current state of charging infrastructure. But yeah, sounds over-all that this years trip and meetups really went quite well and hopefully will lead to good things. But yeah, it can be a bit frustrating because there are those who are anti-ev/haters/etc that have taken little clips and statements out of context and meh. I dunno just seems like I run into a lot of that since really starting to support the movement as a whole (I mean I've wanted an EV for 10ish years.. but stars just finally aligned for various reasons).
Such a great experience, I hope Future rd actions your suggestions soon!
Perhaps they can integrate an AI interface that allows for themed character voices for commands sent by the driver. Also, allow for voice commands for all of the screen functions.I would love a star trek theme in my Mach e. Computer, raise the cabin temperature.
Are they going to move the charging port to be more compatible with the Superchargers?
We didn't talk about that here but he previously said they realize there is an issue with getting the cables to reach.
Definitely agree with Patrick’s feedback about wanting more information on the screen (especially when charging). It kind of feels to me like the Mach-E interface was designed to downplay the fact that the car is *actually* an EV. I find that particularly strange if they were anticipating that the car to appeal to the “EV Nerd” crowd.
Other than that, the only piece of feedback I would have is about the spring loaded charge port door. I’ve had the latch break once already and it’s popped open on me a few times. Not sure why it needs to be spring loaded.
Oh, and yeah, that BlueCruise price… oof!
Would love Ford to bring the new European Ford EV Explorer which was developed with VW.
Really great that you folks have the opportunity. I have a Mach E too but I think my wants are at the niches and not what is going to be the most popular.
I want a more spicy Mach E in the words of Kyle. I use mine for AutoX as it is and I’d love a more performant version with either a longer power limit timer or just a longer run time without limits then a bigger cool down timer.
I’d also love a overland focused lightning. Saw something from Car and Driver hinting at a tremor version. Ideally it’d be a PHeV bronco or Ranger but that’s a different need. Otherwise, any regular EV for daily driving is fine.
I think a lot of people would appreciate a spicier Mach-E -- including me!
I'm glad to see Farley meeting with non fan-boy groups to gather information on things people actually want.
But to one comment, range IS important for those of us in the "western" US. For one of the trips we make several times a year for the most direct path between Edmond, OK and Pueblo, CO, our refueling stop is 290 miles from our house in Dumas, TX. Having to sit at a charger and then wait for a long time for the next 275 miles isn't something I want to do. Yes we eat lunch there, but being tied to one charging location is a non starter. Even with a current model Tesla X they route you through Amarillo, TX with 4 stops for 1 hr 40 minutes of charging, making a somewhat long drive even longer. Improvements in batteries such as what Amprius is working on getting into mass production could cut that to about 20 minutes for a full charge in one location, which would be more reasonable. So maybe an EV in 2025 or beyond to replace our current road trip vehicle will be an option.
I also mentioned he said their target is 300+ miles of range at highway speeds for vehicles coming out in 2025. By then, we will also have quite a few more charging stations coming on line as well. For most people, that will be suitable and they don't need 400 or 500 miles of range. Of course, this is for "most people." There will, of course, be some that need or want more.
I think the Blue Cruise pricing is a bit steep.
The charging curve needs improvement. With available tech, MachE should be able to charge at 150kw for much longer than it does now.
Education on charging and EV life for new owners should happen.
Pet mode should be a priority as well as being able to grab video from the cameras.
I love talking to people while charging. My husband does not!😂
Tell Jim Farley they need to sell a Nema adapter set for the mobile connector
Good Information. It sounds like Jim Farley is really trying to listen to the community. However, somebody better start expanding the Tesla Supercharger network, like yesterday. No one wants to wait in line for an hour so they can charge for twenty minutes.
Thanks for doing this video. It was thorough and gave a good sense of the people involved and the things that were of interest to EV owners. Great job.
I’ve submitted voice feedback along this line, but it’s worth mentioning to you guys. I’d really like for Ford to provide a more customizable display both Main and driver panel. The beauty of a software based vehicle is that it can be programmed over time to fix and enhance the vehicle. A tiny example is that on the driver screen the default is a compass in the lower left corner. Well it can also be outside temperature but where is the configurability? It would be nice to provide more user selectable options. This would give folks that want more tech info like charging data to get it but if that wasn’t important to someone they could get other info. BTW, I want more charging data too.
Anyway, thanks again for the video and keep up the great work!
I love that idea. Should be relatively easy to implement.
There is a difference between spending less than 5 minutes, and spending more than 10 minutes, before you are ready to move on. Charging takes long enough that everyone can get out of the car and do something else, so talking to others is just more natural.
10k subscribers soon!
Oh gosh so happy and humbled! 💙- Liv
For background, I have a lightning, so I'm invested. It's been 5 months since this took place, and I don't see any of the feature requests that were discussed. More and more, this discussion seems like a publicity stunt.... 😔
It takes a long time to go from idea, to design, to actualization, to testing internally, to testing with early access customers, to full release. There have been hints that some stuff is being worked on. And of course, there are other things that may take precedent.
I agree. Especially with cars, everything is double/triple tested before even going into the testing phase due to the possible impact of a bad product on the brand (esp. Mustang and Lightning).
