Thank you. Much appreciated. Please remember to plan early before on set of rains. You will get fragile seedlings if you wait for the rains to start then come for seedlings. Those in the know book earlier and even negotiate discounts

Growing Eucalyptus trees is very bad for the soil. Look at what has happened to Austarilia , Nothern india . Eucalyptus trees are brought to Africa by indians/ Eropeans from India . It is not an indigenous tree to Africa. Uganda, which was part of the Congo Basin, had indigenous trees like the forests still standing in DRC , or what Mabira forest had , which you have chopped down . The Congo Basin, stretched as far as Kakamega in Kenya down to Eastern, Central, Southern, and western Uganda, ran through, Burundi, Rwanda , into DRC, Cameroon, curved along all the coastal countries of West Africa and ended in Guinea Bissau. But , each country ,has and is still doing it's own damage, and we are a people very busy cutting off the hand that feeds us .
Those who are keen on the environment, can see that the Sahara & Kalahari deserts are crepping towards each other, at an alarming speed . But since food is readily available in Uganda and people want money , what I am saying , will sound like madness , to many .
Eucalyptus trees kill soil nutrients and are very aggressive, that once planted , they have a vast root network, that destroys the soil and causes other trees not to do well.
Eucalyptus tree grows fast bcoz its roots run underground wildly and deep , seeking the water table and devour any water, very quickly, drying up rivers, since many people plant the trees on river banks, while the tree grows faster .
Go to Mubende and look at what has happened to the soil there. In Mityana where Kasirye Gwanga lived , the river there dried up completely , bcoz people were thrown off their land, which was close to the river, planted forests of Eucalyptus trees, and the river went dry . That's why Kasirye Gwanga was very tough and shot bullets in tyres of lorries fetching Eucalyptus timber . He had warned the owners and , they got rid of him, bcoz he was stepping in the way if their businesses . As a country which produces too much electricity, and uses less, while quadrapling the prices , making it harder for citizens to access electricity, which would be a safe way of cooking, but we are blindly chopping all trees down for firewood . How long are these trees going to stand ? So introducing Eucalyptus, is a quick remedy, but a long term disaster .Look at what has happened to North India ? Now, they are reviving water, by planting different tree and plants, and harvesting rain water forcthe river project and going away from Eucalyptus trees . Enviromentists ought to know this, or maybe in Uganda, they have focussed their energy elsewhere . Yes , you are creating wealth , as the plan for farmers but 50 years from now , Uganda will slowly be turning into a desert, if huge forests of Eucalyptus trees mushroom up everywhere. It is possible for these trees to do well in Uganda, because our water table is not very deep and our country is fertile, but down the road , we will not be here to see the damage ,but those we leave the country to . So, the motive here, is making money at the expense of ruining out environment and soil . There is already enough evidence about the damage done by these trees , but we are a generation that found these trees standing , so the majority of people have no clue and pay no attention . I approached the government to enlighten this issue, years back, but I was given a warning to keep my mouth shut and mind my own business or else , I should kiss the sun goodbye ! It takes up to 50 years, for the damage to show. Look at parts of Rakai , Mubende and many parts within Buganda, which were green, but now suffering bcoz of rivers that have dried and trees which were cut down and replaced by Eucalyptus trees . Look at how dry Mbarara area is . Have you been to places like Kamwenge ?
Now , I am going to be crucified here , but do your research and see . I have been to India in the dry areas which 70 to 100 years ago, had rivers and indigenous trees, but had Eucalyptus trees, that grew in one part of the country introduced to them, for building and firewood. Now, it is a disaster. And Eucalyptus trees does not produce oxygen at night like many different breeds of trees, so where there is a lot of concentration of Eucalyptus trees , rain falls less, while the roots search underground for water, in order to grow fast . We are a tropical country, surrounded by many bodies of fresh water, and shouldn't have water shortage , but ignorance and greedy are fuelling this beautiful country to slowly die, b4 our very eyes. But we are busy bickering, and neglecting to take care of mother Uganda ( Soil and environmental). Further more , we have become extremely stupid and careless as a people, littering plastic everywhere. It is clogging our rivers , lakes, soil... such that , in the near future , fish is going to die, soil will be layered with plastic and plants wont have nutrients, oxygen to help them grow . The vegetation , soil sand, stones in rivers and lakes play a vital role . Plants in the lakes, help clean up Cobornndioxide and produce oxygen for the fish to breathe
( Iam not meaning the invasive floating plants/ weed on lake Victoria and Kyoga, that has blacked out vast areas of the lakes ) Most of people are not thinking about this , but time is coming, when even regret wont cut . Kampala and Buganda , 50 years ago was green, lush and thick forests covered the land . Fresh air , and good quality of health was the norm. Today , Kampala and its 7 hills, plus the many added on, forming the suburbs of the city, stand empty and stripped naked by tree cutting , and the city is dusty. If Churchill was to come back to the Uganda today , he named " Pearl of Africa " , he would be shocked and bleed in his heart.
Where are the Mahorgany trees that the Kabaka of Buganda gave orders and were planted , from Buganda , Busoga areas , all the way to Bugisu. He had a plan to have this tree, an indigenous tree to Buganda , to be planted all round the country in plenty , these trees lined on roadside in all these areas, but we have been aggressively cutting them down, without replacing them .
See how naked,we have left our mother Uganda !
We even have corrupt, greedy leaders, selling national forests to chinese to cut and ship timber back to China . We even have them mining sand from lake Victoria , shipping it out, forgetting that we are destroying places where fish lay eggs , and get their food from, Now Fish is disappearing, and we are wondering why !! The grass and roots, plants in the lake holding water back, has been destroyed, and add global warming in the mixture , the lake is crying, angry and moving inland , bcoz its perimeter fence, so to speak, has been destroyed . Strange enough, those fuelling all these problems , are busy producing children. What and which state of a country, are you leaving and planning for your children ???
I can go on and on... but people like me, would never be given a chance to work and create awareness to society about the damage caused to our land . If you love Uganda , think about what I have said .
    I love our Uganda.

That's why many young men are selling out their ancestoral lands for cars and boda boda business instead of acquiring money through trees than selling it off... Remember uganda with its growing population is reducing chances of getting a big land and construction is everywhere my dear...so be ware and get started ...

Buganda was green but considering our strategic location for new developments in the country...many structures still spoils the green environment brother just ve courage to move on ..even new York City was a forest at one time T. And you can't fight change because change will change you

@@alexkakooza3116 But Indian, Australia soils aren't African soils. He is forgetting that. The guy is mistakening pine trees for eucalyptus trees. Pine trees are more dangerous to soils and with ecalyptus trees, you can grow crops after deforestation but with pine trees no crop will ever grow there even after cutting d forests.

Please be informed that eucalyptus is recommended for marginal sites. Areas where it makes economic sense to plant trees instead of crop agriculture. It is also a safeguard against land encouragement compared to leaving the land idle. People have also erroneously attempted to intercrop eucalyptus with other crops. This is wrong, eucalyptus is a plantation crop meant to grow alone. It is not an agroforestry tree. The canopy will simply cut off light to the crops below. That is why people believe eucalyptus spoils soils. It is also a heavy feeder, requiring plenty of water and nutrients. In some countries there is legislation preventing growing eucalyptus less than two hundred meters from a water body

Trees cannot grow in perpetuity. They have a rotation age. I trust the custodians of national forests have what we term management plans for all our indigenous natural forests. There are sections of the forests that are strictly for conservation, them there are areas where legal felling takes place. Please visit the NFA WEBSITE and get more information about the management of these forests

Qn2, first you have to trust the source but now if you don't have one, it's better you look for NFA National Forestry Authority, they can give you good seedlings.
