Some say Doms rx7 is still parked in that parking lot waiting for him to return...😂
Which I don't get because it's seen later on in the film XD
That made me sad. You made me sad for an RX-7 in a fictional movie that came out almost two decades ago. :(
Actually it's still sitting at that abandoned Airport landing strip 🤣
that is if Hector's cronies didn't boost it and it's sitting under a bridge in South Central on some cinder blocks
Brian gets it after he gives Dom the Supra
@@gtgodbear6320 and you know this how?
In 2001 nobody hardly knew what a 1jz or rotary engine was so they did just fine
Only us car guys since kids
except car guys
One thing most people don't realize in the CGI scene when they're going through the engine as it's running is actually three rotor not a two rotor if you slow it down you can count the three rotors it's a 20b not a 13B
Except it's not. That's a 2jz sound. There were no 3vrotor engines in the us at that time nor would they be able to get one.
Deatherage performance i’m glad i wasn’t the only one to notice that, if anyone wanted to do an rx7 build (sound and everything) but still wanted to keep it rotary, 20b would be the answer (20bs sound close to inline 6 engines anyway)
@@Shadow0fd3ath24 he isnt talking about the sound, he's talking about the CGI scene
@@LMDF2000 you're right, mazzei formulas 3 rotor test run vid sounds just like torettos rx7
Would have rather heard the rotory 13b sounds coming from Dom's F D...
I would have rather heard LS sounds coming from the FD
I agree with you derrick
Nothing like that Brap Brap sound especially on the big screen...It sounded really good on Hahn's F D in Tokyo drift!
True, true perhaps a good suggestion for next episode @ joker
I think they're done with the 90s jdm cars honestly...if they even do any more movies after 9, it'll be more muscle and supercars.
Do the civics in which they where doing the robbery
Syed shahroz Ali Jafri I have always wanted to see that build. That was one of my favorites from the original when I was a kid.
One was high compression NA B series and one was boosted I think
They had D14 engines..... xD hahahahahaahaha
Tyler Gibson I have always loved the eg civics mainly cuz of that robbery
by judging the engine sounds, the Leon's Civic its Turbocharged (well actually re-using the Greg Leone's CR-X Engine sound that was also used for the Eclipse), Dom's Civic sounds like an N/A PTB (because it sounds louder) and the Letty's one it seems to be supercharged (its the only one that sounds deeper and more quieter).
I still love the first fast and furious even with the cheesiness.
Facts the best one to date...
You should watch the original Point Break. It's an R rated Fast & The Furious
@@visionist7 I'll keep that in mind.
cheesy ? what cheesy about it. All the new films they make are cheesy
CHEESY??? THIS MOVIE ISN’T CHEESY! ALL CAPS TO SHOW SERIOUSNESS. Really though, that hurt my soul dude...
I never said cheese was bad XD I love cheese, I grew up with these movies and I'm going to make my kids watch them and convert at least one of them into a car enthusiast lol
@@TheRacingJoker can you do a video on the Mazda 787b?
@@lt.patterson6081 That has actually been requested before, I'll eventually get to it, researching cars like that can be trickier especially since I want to understand what I'm talking about as well as the history that I'm covering. But I will be happy to do it at some point!
@@TheRacingJoker there's one side saying the car was banned because the rotary engine kicked ass and there's another side saying that the rules for all race cars at the time changed.
@@TheRacingJoker also for a Fast and Furious car,how about that black guy's Supra from 2fast2furious or that mustang that got crushed by the trucks?
They definitely should have kept the rotary sound. A nice Bridgeport on idle would have made it perfect in my opinion
that would have given the rotary engine more publicity for sure
Agreed, unfortunately car guys weren’t in charge of the sound team unfortunately (and yes I know this comment is 3 years old lol)
they should have kept the original sounds
YEAH 100 PERCENT WITH
Håller med dig
I think it was ok to fake them. Sure someone who was into these kinds of cars would have liked to hear the original audio, but what they did worked better for a general audience. The bombastic, over the top sound design conveyed to people how powerful the cars were supposed to be. Especially mixing the animal sounds and cranking the noise levels at crucial moments.

*Doesn't want to add unnecessary weight*
*Buys heavy wheels* 🤔
The car had other wheels before the movie.
It believe it was *BLITZ* 5 double spoke wheels.
Better GRIP
@@youssefpuisto1458 I think there's better ways to increase the mechanical low speed grip then in reading the rotational mass 🤔
I'm not sure off the top of my head but I believe that they're deceivingly light for what they look like.
In any case I never liked them in the first place because they always seemed to be more of an early VIP Style. Something you'd see a murdered Altezza squatting over.
I hate those wheels
Please do the rx7 from Tokyo Drift.
Yes I love that car that is the baddest veilside body kit I've ever seen. Of course I'm still an r34 fan but it would be hard to choose between a stock r34 and that rx built up. As long as the rx doesn't have the rotory engine. I know people go crazy for that but they just break down way too much. I'd want a 2jz in either one even the b26 has some flaws
On the list ;)
James F then get a corvette. An RX is not an RX without the rotary
James F R32 skyline on top
@@jamesf9610 Have you owned a rotary ?? NO Ive owned 3 and none of them ever broke down. Dont comment on shit you know nothing about dickhead
I always thought Dom's RX7 sounded more like a Skyline than a Supra.. But they're both I6's after all.
Rx7 tech here, with stock twins and listed supporting mods this car was likely to make 300-325hp IF tuned correctly. Race gas might have pushed you closer to that 325hp number. My 93 Base model made 314whp tuned by Steve Khan with very similar mods. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for the insight! :) And your car sounds very fun!
i think giving dom"s rx7 the jz sound gave the car a more intimidating feel, which fit dom like a glove of being a badass street racer, but in my mind i dont see why dom wouldnt have jz swapped the rx7, on the fact of more power and reliability, i just know there is some pureist out there that would have rather them use the sounds of the rotary engine, but i dont think we would have gotten that same oh shit here comes dom kind of feel. dont hate me, personal opinion
13b sounds way more intimidating to me than a 2jz...
but thats just me.
Remember when the movie came out 2JZ swaps were not that common in a Mazda, hell in 2020 they aren't that common. I don't think the Brap, Brap, Brap, would be as intimidating. Probably would have been better sounding for Brian's first car.
I don't think there was a 2jz swapped rx7 back then
I remember only 1 guy who swapped a 2jz in his fd
(can't remember his name) but 2jz swapped Mazda rx7s are not at all common
I love fast n the furious.
Love how ppl are still talking about it
"I live my life a quarter mile at a time, nothing else matters."
hello there
Those 10 seconds been canceled soz
should have kept the rotary sound, especially ported it would have sounded nice although it might have been really loud.
Well its a 3 rotor anyway, so it sounds deeper
It was an rx7, this guy has no idea what he's talking about
@@dakken74 You don't even know what you're saying lol
@@rotor13 yeah I do. Years ago I was at sevenstock and met the guys from speedmachine performance at there booth. They told me how it was their rx7 that was used for the sound in the movie. So I guess you're the one that doesn't know what there talking about.
@@rotor13 ua-cam.com/video/8Yl02Y3ixz8/v-deo.html I don't know if it was this car,but it was these guys.
When I first got into cars I would always call GReddy "G ready"
J's Delivery Service haha same! Actually just figured out last week that I had been saying it wrong The whole time haha. I still say it
I would too... One of my buddies I was talking to pronounced it as "G Ready" just the other day... It's supposed to be "great" and "Eddy" put together.
@@brianscofield6921 yeah...GReddy, VeilSide, Abflug, DoLuck... They were weird ass names but they were Japanese tuning giants in the late 90s throughout the 00s.
@@ellisjackson3355 I honesty like how "G ready" sounds.
So did i 😂 for years.
That's a VVTi 1JZ swapped in that RX-7, by the way--not a 2JZ.
Ty for the correction
Want swapped in. It was overdubbed sound. Also it 100% was a 2jz as Craig Lieberman(the guy who told them what sounds to use for the way they wanted them to hear) says
Because I do not know what the original engine sounds would have sounded like, as processed by the production team, I can only agree that they should use whatever audionuarual cues are necessary to achieve the most convincing soundscape for the film.
In other words whatever sounds better than the real thing and convincing.
13B is one of the most unique and amazing sounding engines. im upset to know they didnt use the original sounds for it in the film
I would like them to keep the original engine sounds. Since im a big rotary fan it would be nice to hear the rotary sounds on dom's rx7
Fun fact: In Japan it's not said like "Maz-da" it sounds like "Ma-Za-Da" 🤯
I don’t know how you get all the right mods but damn lol and keep up the very awesome content.
7 TIMES the subs in 10 days!
Your channel is going to explode at this rate lol well done your content is amazing
Good luck in future
I've been getting overwhelmed by the influx of new subs, views and comments lately but I've greatly enjoyed responding to all of the comments to try and show I'm serious about all this
I’d love for you to find videos of cars with these mods so we could know what it’d actually sound like
When for Leons R33?
It's dead. Feds caught up with it and crushed it
@@marquaviouschester6947 i know its been crushed, a another guy already commented to me about it
That's very sad to hear

I'll be sure to cover that! We can't not talk about Big Bird!
A porter 13B sounds nothing like a 2JZ and the 13 B would have been better to hear that sound
Sweet Tee a 13B pig sound yeah good idea
I really love that first gen Apexi EL tachometer... So unique how the numbers are "normal" to the bezel.
Such an underrated car
Love all your vidz bud keep it up.. Dude almost had you..... You can have any brew you want as long as its a Corona...... Cheers mate
The movie also showed the RX7 to have a 3 rotor 20B during the "through the engine" shot. That changes the note a little (compared to a 13B), but not to what the movie made it sound.
Love the vids keep it up!
Hey man bless you and your doing a fabulous job.
its a damn shame we cant get the sound from the car when it sound so good
Hell yeah killer content!
MUCH better video this time around. All the clarification between the hero car and the stunt car is appreciated
All my years i wanted to kno y that rx7 sounded like that thanks man this helped
These decals are on their was for my red fd as we speak!
Excited
Depending on weather the twin turbos were stock or aftermarket (maybe Bnrs) horsepower was probably around 350-450 whp. Likely a low to mid 12 second car.
David Craig Nah. It’s a 10 second car man lol
By far my favorite car from the franchise to this day.
rx-7 with no rotary sound feels like an ls-swapped rx-7 which is gross
Any LS swap is gross.
In ways it is quite weird to use other car engine sounds in films, but the sound editors or directors need to do their thing to make a scene more appealing to the scrip or what makes the scene standout like what you said about making it feel like Dom Toretto the Street King. But it is awesome too in ways.
what is hanging under the Eclipse at 6:03, that can't be in the right spot. Looks like it is almost dragging on the ground
does dom's veilside wheels have chrome or bronze bolts ? am making the wheels model and need bolt color info
Rotary brap sounds are always superior to any other engine. They flopped on that one.
@02:34 that nerd out shot is amazing, especially when he shifts gears and you get a rear shot of the rx7 increasing the lead
So I see that talking about this movie is cool again. Good thing I watched it every week for probably a whole year when it came out.
I love that rotary monster!
jester classic
Entertaining vid! You forgot about the trick hazard/nitrous button. Lol
I first discovered sound trickery on the Twister behind the scenes. They mixed in diesel trains in the tornados! One thing I know for sure is every movie since forever has used clips of the same burnout and that door creak from Skyrim.
*Do a video on Datsun 240Z from Wangan Midnight where Akio has 3.1L Bored Up and stroked L28 Engine that has 3 Mikuni carburettors and TWIN TURBO with HKS Surge tank* I"M LOOKING FORWARD TO SEE THIS MAN!!!
Some people say it really made 600HP ;)
I mean shit you basically said an entire video's worth of information about that car in your single comment...
And wait... It was carb'd AND boosted? So you're saying it has either a blow through or draw through setup?
@@ellisjackson3355 Its twin turbo linline six, that is powered by mikuni carburettors not injectors. So basicaly turbo goes straight to the carburetors. I don't wanna talk more about it here cause like I've said I want this guy to do a video about it. Its gonna be awesome. :)
@@lukaszbat3733 ... You can either locate the turbo before the carburetors or after the carburetors. That's why I asked if it was blow through or draw through
@@ellisjackson3355 I don't want to expose too much info, but it was blow trough. I don't think anyone still use draw trough as they were quite dangerous.
@@lukaszbat3733 Str8 to the carbies wtf u r on the gear hard.
I subscribed man ur vids are great
Thanks! I hope you enjoy your stay!
I really want to be positive but hearing you say that a 2jz engine swapped rx7 would be ideal for you made me want to cry
its actually a 1JZ sound, because its typical to say the 2JZ beacuse of this film's popularity...
Have you tried hearing the 20b rotor engine? Sound like Dom’s rx7 when he rev’s it
They should’ve used the 13b sounds but likely it would’ve drowned out the sounds of the other cars. A street ported full bolt on 13b is about 320-350whp btw since you asked.
Whaaaat?, no Motec Exhaust system? well I'll be damned
because Motec *NEVER* made exhaust because the producers they dont know about a crap about cars and aftermarket hardware...
And dont even think to excuse with "its a joke bro", because I dont eat that shit for argument...
It’s supposed to made up, just like the tire company, also a company did say they will make a motec system in the future
They better address where that car went before they finish making the F&F movies, I’m sure everyone would appreciate seeing it on last time
i say no i love pure sound of the rotary no other sound can beat it
Most Of These Part Are Avaible In Street Racing Syndicate?
Most of them yeah lol
I am bingeing on ur channel
Changing sounds in a movie for drama is fine, Dom driving an RX-z make sense if you think about the character and the car.
Ppl complaining about the sound, guess what? It's the tuner scene. An engine swap is not uncommon
I thought it was a three rotor sound at first, until you mentioned 2JZ. Afterwards it was like: "oh yeah, that makes more sense."
I would still liked a three rotor sound like Rob Dahms three rotor way back sounded like. It had the same tone ish to this Rx7. and the skyline sound from UG2.
I dont know how to describe that tone, but when you listen to the Underground 2 Skyline, fast and furious cars like the skyline or Rx7 and rob dahms 3 rotor you'd understand!
Honda s2000 Suki from 2 fast 2furious please
One of my favorite cars lol and I'm not ashamed to admit that
It's on the list
still can't unsee that hose dragging on the ground on that green Eclipse.
One of the only tasteful cars in it even for the time
I've only heard it pronounced *_GREDD-EE_* by GReddy themselves from an old 2003 turbo tuning video.
Yeah the lion sounds are cool, but nothing will ever beat the iconic brap of a rotary.
As owning several fk8 RX7. From what I understood it was as 34b not a 13B. Also it was bridgeported. add they missed the ball a rotary sounds like no other car that car would have show badass if they would have let that car breathe by that I mean real rotary sound that would have make sure there was no question who was the King of the street
I always thought that FD had a 20B in it, which was/is a dream swap for an RX7. You can even see this suggestion at the race start, which (briefly) showed 3 rotors.
Edit: I've heard 2JZ engines before, and the 20B sounds much closer to the movie sound.
haha the magical RX-7 that sounded like a 2JZ
*1JZ
It makes sense for the masses. Majority of ppl dont know cars, and dom is supposed to be the fastest. So he has to sound the strongest. 2jz sounds stronger then 13b. So it makes sense this was done for the movie.
Cheesy? This was the best documentary about real lives in the world of underground street racing!
It was a documentary of some of the most extreme aspects about the culture at the time though, most people didn't have the budget to do the things implied in the movie. And we have to recognize that this movie established a lot of trends and tropes inside and outside film... so in hindsight it's inevitable that the film is going to feel cheesy (not saying that's a bad thing though I think it's part of the charm)
20b/26B can sound awesome in RX7
Keeping the rotary sound matches Dom's character more because many of his vehicles are cammed, the loud and lumpy exhaust creates an aura of power.
Yet the JZ sound they used could have been a choice to show that Brian's Supra becomes equal to the RX7 while still showing that Dom is the king by revealing his Charger.
Yup. They used Craig Lieberman's Supra for a lot of the sound effects. Aka, Brian's orange Supra.
Haha, great video as usual. I'd love a RX7, its actually one of my dream cars but the rotary is so unreliable, I'm too scared to own one
Weekend driver maybe?
@@brandobee2264 they are the type of cars that lose compression by just sitting there. My friend had one and it was hit or miss whether it was going to start
I'd personally love to do a project car where I tool and work everything with my own hands and the RX-7 has crossed my mind as a potential candidate (that or an NA Supra with a GTE conversion)
@@TheRacingJoker the coolest project would be a RX7 shell with a RB or 2jz Conversion. I don't think anyone has done a RB Conversion
@@BossCarsUK I think you're right, RB swaps don't feel anywhere near as common as 2J/1J swaps. That would be a head turner to do an RB swap of some kind for sure
Dom's fd supposedly rotary cuz it meant to be but sound wasn't.. 1jz I think.
I am not a huge JDM guy but i love how this RX7 looks if i had to pick one car from the movie it would be this one or Brians supra.
2 thing i wanna know
1. Why dom abandon his RX 7 after 20 years ?
2. Why the engine not use Wangkel rotary
Anyone know which music is Dom play in that rx7
As a car enthusiast I get the mixed feelings towards the anachronistic (no idea if thats the right word) car sounds, I really do. F&F movies were a huge part of my wannabe car enthusiast childhood and knowing then that some of the car sounds were so drastically inaccurate would've broken my soul. But as someone who's studying and working in audio full time... I get it.
Its the same as hearing sound of an M134 when the Joker fires his modified G17 in The Dark Knight, or literal trap music samples being used as shotgun sounds in John Wick 3. It really is how foley and audio in film works. I can almost guarantee that a lot of the audio crew working on these films would've liked to use the original sounds but couldn't in many cases simply because they wouldn't have been able to record it (hell, the JZ engine sound of Dom's RX-7 still seems to be clipping on the mic level pretty badly). Its just how some movies are made. Freddie Wong of Rocket Jump once said, "there's no gunshot sound in a "gunshot" sound" while describing the sound design session of one of his short films and I guess that adage applies here too.
Great comment
I remember from an interview for the DeLorean from Back to the Future talking specifically about the instrument panel and flux capacitor lights.
Specifically they said those props have to be "More Real than Real", meaning that even though they do not serve the implied function in reality that they do in fiction, they still have to light up, make the right sounds, the concealed wiring has to work properly and be reliable enough to film with, the buttons actually activated programmed actions for the display etcetera.
When for the Dom's 1970 charger?
Soon
2.28 It doesn't have a front mount IC, that's over sized stock mount.
It's G Reddy but most people say Greddy.
I agree some cars in the movies are usually mimicked by others cars to sound cooler than the counter parts. Annoying but at the same time ya forget about it by watching them drive around n race.
That car should be given a written apology for being riced out that way
Yeah totally dude :)
Legend has it, Paul is still eating tuna sandwiches...................no crust.
Sneaky Pete’s used to be for sale on Jegs and Summit back in 2000/2001
James bond shit for street racers
i think keeping the accurate engine sound is the best even if it's not as "cool" sounding to a filmmaker, better to modify the car to the point where it sounds "cool" enough to be the real deal
OMG your literally the only other person I've heard say G Ready
I've bin calling them that since the 90's
I still don't know what the correct pronunciation is
The RX7 has to be one of the best looking cars ever made
I’ve always loved Vince’s r33 gtr
I really like your vids, i think they really mess uo when they change the engine sounds but have in mind that not everyone's a car guy. Pkease do a vid about the veilside fortune fd from tokyo drift
Well, not every car sounded good in real life, that's why they changed it...
The Supra was the car they least changed the sound.
It almost sounded like the real thing.
👍
Han's RX-7 is definitely on the list for the very near future
Tokyo drift was not filmed in Tokyo, only small parts were.
Yep! It's because getting filming permits over there is crazy hard
Yep,plus they stated the tokyo city area was too busy as well. Something like that. But you do some awesome fun fact videos. You should mention how slap jacks supra magically appeared in grandmas boy! Wtf was up with that? And the bumper was missing
@@dubbman33rw His Supra will be an interesting video, especially for the sound. I feel like it sounded weird to me and different to how much Supras sound (that said most Supras I hear are single turbo monsters)
@@TheRacingJoker True!
What stereo system did Dom's RX7 have?
Alpine
I was working at a studio that contracted for the Discovery Channel when 2F2F came out. Discovery had tie-in 2F2F promos airing on TV at that time. I got to work on some of the car sounds in those promos, consisting primarily of the Saleen Mustang /Semi crash. We used canned V8 302 recordings. It was cool, because I was just as much of a gear-head then as I am now. Again, that was only for the promos, but it was my little contribution to the FF universe! I also got to work with some original music from Ludacris on that spot, fun times. I can tell you that it's rare that a sound design team can go out and collect 100% practical sound for a film. That only happens on ultra high budget shows. The first FF was so low-budget that a perfect level of sound detail probably wasn't financially possible. I'll take canned 2JZ sounds over no sound any day of the week! My Channel ---> Motogami.org
Wow the rx7 with out the rotary engine that sad and disappointed me and same to other jdm cars for jdm history rip
If anything they've made his RX- 7 more reliable those Rotary engines are unreliable junks
Thats why Dom was fast. ITS 2JZ in a RX7
To us it's a no no using wrong engine sounds but film makers rarely care about accuracy of any kind.
