alas, I've been caught! Guilty as charged: I am an avid consumer of fanfiction, and have been reading (and occasionally writing) them for more than a decade. I always laugh when students point it out on my bookmarks bar, because I'm convinced that it's the first time for some of them that they're seeing me as an actual human being rather than someone that's just making them memorize the difference between a pendentive and a squinch. I also remind them that a good portion of the artworks in Unit 3 are basically Bible fanart: turns out people have been making art based off of other people's concepts, narratives, and ideas for ages, oftentimes interpreting them through their own unique lenses in the process. After all: what is art, if not something that provokes a reaction from the audience?

It's not historically accurate to say Hinduism came before Buddhism. The Vedic religion came before Buddhism, but the Vedic religion is almost completely different in beliefs and practices from Hinduism. Hinduism arose because of the influence of Buddhism and other Sramana traditions.
