  • The final installment of the Indigenous Americas lecture series. This set of lectures focuses on artwork created by several Native American (or First Nations, if you're in Canada) communities, particularly the work of the Lenape, Eastern Shoshone, Kwakwaka'wakw, and Puebloan communities.
Artworks covered in this lecture (with the culture of origin in parentheses):
    ~ Bandolier Bag (Lenape)
    ~ Transformation Mask (Kwakwaka'wakw)
~ Hide Painting of a Sun Dance, by Cotsiogo (Eastern Shoshone)
~ Black on Black Ceramic Vessel, by Maria and Julian Martinez (Puebloan)
    In summary:
~ Extended (and not very well explained, sorry) milk metaphor
~ Forcing people out of their ancestral lands had long-lasting ramifications on their communities and art
~ Maria Martinez said 'screw capitalism'
EDIT: I just noticed that I forgot to replace 'Indian' with 'Native American' in some of the slides: my apologies! Also, the date for the black on black ceramic vessel is ca, 1939, not 1950.
