  • Calliope is Kratos´ first born child which he killed in the original God of War - he was tricked into doing so by Ares.
In GoW Valhalla DLC he will talk about Calliope with Mimir. You need to collect 3 of her flutes to get the secret dialogue when you travel to the upper realms of Valhalla.
Calliope was also present in God of War Ghost of Sparta. Kratos mentions this in my video.

Something of absolutely tragic detail is during the scene of Kratos leaving Calliope behind. It wasn’t just a cutscene of him reluctantly leaving and his daughter begging him to stay. It was a “quick time cutscene.” Meaning anytime she hugged you to keep you from leaving, you’d have to press ⭕️ or another button to push her away until Kratos makes his ultimate choice. That’s how much he didn’t want to leave. It’s so sad and tragic.

I always wondered how exactly the deaths of Hades and Persephone would affect the underworld. Persephone was a nature goddess before marrying Hades. Elysium may have very well died with her. I have this dark theory that, by killing the rulers of the underworld, Kratos damned the souls of his wife and daughter to either wander a dead surface world, or be stuck eternally in a broken afterlife.

The most fascinating thing I find about this conversation, is that when he says he wishes he had stayed with Calliope in Elysium, he only mentions the fact that he could have had more hours with her. Not the fact that, he traded that to save the whole world (which he did and I always found rather heroic and selfless). However, even after all this time becoming a better person, he still does not care about that. He still only cares about being able to spend time with him and his daughter. It is interesting that, that part of his character has not changed at all. In his own words, "I care little for the world and its suffering, WHERE IS SHE!"

He never got to see Calliope progress like Atreus had. It's sad, but also probably comforting to Kratos, like he's making up for a mistake. I do wonder how Calliope and Atreus may have gotten along if they somehow met.

I have a theory that the next DLC/Game will be Atreus trying to find the lost giants, and ends up taking the same magical ways to travel to other pantheons as Tyr did to find them. He'll stumble upon what's left of the Greek Pantheon and will learn about Kratos' bloodshed and why he performed such a heinous act. This will make him realize that his father wasn't just mighty with a stoic personality. But rather, a product of someone who had dealt a great deal of pain, which would make him question himself even more. Maybe in the end, as he gets past this internal conflict/learning about his father to continue his mission, he takes the wrong way back to the Norse Pantheon and finds himself in the mystical River of the Nile.
