Fr I found a nendoroid of my favorite character from a mobile game I used to play but didn’t have money at the time. After I saved enough money to buy him he was sold out I went to look at the reviews and most of them were about how they didn’t know who he was but bought him because he looked cool 😭

Sometimes the figure just lools nice. It looks appealing, cool or unique. I only have 2 figures that are from animes ive never watched, but I still like them in my collection.

Some of them just look cool. Like,, I never finished Cardcaptor Sakura but I still have a ton of her statues because she’s a beautifully designed character with loads of cute outfits. Sometimes it’s that simple
biggest regret is buying aot pop figures in my early weeb days since i didnt know anything about bootlegs and figures in general. i never display them or anything so i think that was a pretty big regret

Why to me pop isn't that bad there so many variety than nendoroid and compared to price, i got admit nendoroid is better but hell no I'm not paying $100+ or $69+ for a small figure, I knew this video is going be nendoroid and prize figure, to me today most prizes figure are very good quality for the prizes, i have the kakashi banpresto and i love it, i one in a claw machine only I spend $15, today it cost like $40-80. It my opinion no hate, I respect your opinion as well.

I’m slowly starting a collection I have a miku figure, rem and ram swimsuit, nendoroid rem, red riding hood rem, Sakura miku, sailor Mercury, Kanna kamui, chino kafuu, 2 baby chibi nendoroids of rem and ram, shiro no game no life, and I have a Beatrice from re zero coming lol

The struggle is real... I've been working on; rethinking and "sleeping on" figure purchases, its good to give it a day or 2 and reflect on whether you really need that figure or not. Im starting to do more research, like looking to see what other variations of the desired character are out there, maybe there's a more unique one with a higher price tag, but it suits your style more, do you get the cheaper one now; or save up for the more expensive one hoping its not sold out by the time you have the money!
I guess thats what keeps figure collecting exciting lol!
I've recently let some preorders slip past me to try and be a bit more thoughtful with my spending and now I'm regretting it a lot... but I'd probably feel bad shelling out $700 for a couple of figures too. It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation haha.
Honestly I could do without my entire figure collection but my monkey brain won't let me stop buying the things I want.

Think of it this way, even if you miss out on a fig there will always be new ones in the future. In 20yrs time will you still want it? It's worth considering.
When my sister was nine she found a very cute figure that she wanted, so my dad bought it for her. I’d never heard of the anime this figure was from, so I decided to look it up and watch it. It was Moetan..... not ideal for a nine year old. Thankfully she never watched it. She’s twenty-two now and still has the figure in a box.
Is this the English teaching anime? I've never seen, but the synopsis reads pretty innocent, and the characters look very cute almost chibi... so I'm very confused. Is there some bait and switch that happens or pervy moments that come out?

@@phoenixdiricci6043 It has that look about it. But synopsis just says girl has crush and uses the opportunity to actually teach English. So I was like "why's this not good for a 9 y/o" in fact it sounds like a youth based anime. If it gets lewd with so much cutesy setup that's really bothersome.
One figure I regret purchasing is a dark magician girl on Amazon that was at 150$. Since I couldn't find it anywhere else I decided to buy it. A month later I saw it on amiami at 50$. -___-

I have only a few figures I regret, and I tried selling them for cheap. And used that money to go toward a better one.
i think the issue with the rin figure was that the other two girls in the set, uzuki and mio are FAR more popular characters than rin and therefore she was a less desirable figure

Definitely. Just be aware of the auctions that seem too good to be true. Lots of items that have no boxes and are often bootlegs

You'd probably find that your parents don't care/don't understand enough to care. My mum is a Christian, yet she thought that my friends dakimakura of the MC of Dragon Maid was cute... He ended up leaving it behind for anyone that wanted it, and my mum picked it up for me as she thought it was cute. I explained it was sexual and weird, but she simply didn't care. Yet she is extremely hard on alcohol, porn, drugs, unhealthy food etc. It's kinda funny tbh. The one thing that kids fear their parents seeing them own is now the thing they want you to own.
I asked my parents and they said it was too expensive and that I don’t need to use my money on things like that. My parents are haters of me collecting things lol.

I can explain why nobody wanted that idolm@ster figures! Basically they are from sub franchise with has around 150 girls who most of them have not recieved any figures (hell some of them have 0 merchandise!) While rin has around like 6 to 9 figures and the one that you brought is the lowest quality one so when fans see that rin figure they usually think "man another rin when they are gonna realease one of my best girl" or "damn i love rin but for that money i could buy a better rin one" so yeah

It's so sad for geeks that most of our stuff downgrades in cost over time. Trying to sell off anime, comics and figs is hard.
The closest figure I have that I might regret buying is a bootleg ryuk figure. Back then I didn't know that bootlegs were a thing. I actually quite like the figure and it was cheap. I only regret buying it because it's wings take up so much space so it makes that part of my shelf look empty. It was the only figure I've ever bought on impulse so I haven't impulse bought a figure since. I always wait a few days to a week before I buy something I first see.
That Rin figure is one of my favorite 😭 also I love that honoka figure so much and I don’t even really care for honoka

During my late teens I had a collection just as large as this videos collection, I also didnt know some of the characters I had and was happy to spend £100 on one fiqure (the madness of being a kid with money to burn) after a while I didn't like how messy or disorganized my room was and i was always moving my small room around with the various shelves then moved to the IKEA glass display case then back, after 10 years of having so many figures i decided to get rid of them and took me 5 years to sell most of it, gave some to friends or children who I knew took a interest to anime
I dont regret buying it all but looking back I could have had a better more meaningful collection if I put some thought into what I brought instead of buying it at a convention coz it was cheap, I do keep my favourites
As a big idol guy, the main problem with the Rin figure (and also the Honoka to an extent) is that it's marketed as a 'set', where you have to get all three figures from the unit or you're missing out. This ends up with a lot of people buying the set out of obligation rather than actually wanting that individual character... people who then dump the set once they realise they've got a whole load of figures just sitting around they don't want tanking the market price. It doesn't help that they're both main characters from their series, who are much more likely to get people with a fleeting interest in the franchise rather than a more minor character who could garner a more obsessed fanbase.
It bugs me because I only really care about Uzuki from this set, but in person it comes off as lacking impact because it was obviously designed about having all three. :/
I bought a set of pirated Demon Slayer Figures because they were dirt cheap and I'd rather pay $20 for the full set of 6 than to dish out $80 just for one. I saw reviews and photos and didn't think they looked that bad. I got them in the mail and they are decent aside from the fact that Tanjirou was standing at a 35 degree angle, Inosuke's sword was crooked, and Zenitsu had some residual black paint covering the back of his hand. But they look stupid standing next to my authentic Zenitsu nendoroid. Now I'm just wondering if I can sell them off at a garage sale for $5 each or something so I at least make a profit.

Dang i would like some of those pokemon trainer figures. I never seen them before. Luckily i can say i dont have any figures from stuff I dont like and i have a decent size collection but i understand. Edit: actually i lied. I have like 6 pops i dont care about that much when i realized their quality was terrible but they started me collecting figures so i gotta give them that credit
When I started collecting figures I limited collecting to characters voiced by my favorite voice actors/actresses or from series I really liked. That way, clutter was limited to key figures and then I could take either a quality of figure approach, or a quantity of different figures approach like with my many Saber figures.
That Honoka is on my top 3 most wanted and has been for awhile 😢😢 I'm glad the price has dropped so much...
I also have the "not buying a figure of someone I don't know" and never broke it. If anything it encouraged me to watch anime because I saw figures of it's characters that I interested me like Date a Live. Well if you ever consider selling that Saber figure I would be interested. Aniplex is one expensive son of a bitch.
With he price of these things you need to lay down some rules like only buying super high quality scales and it has to be a character you know and love. Quality over quantity, you end up saving space and have more appreciation for the figures you have
I don't own any figures because the shipping would kill me financially, and the only place l know of to get them physically is the other end of the country and quite possibly at a mark-up, as l know nothing about prices. Thank goodness it's one of the few things l don't collect. I do regret buying the Hyrule Historia for my book collection at way too much money in retrospect. It's one of the reasons l'll never buy physical items from foreign countries ever again.

No regret of figures, takes me a lot to get them, focused on nendoroids. I'm nervously waiting what happens to my preorders during 2020. Two from the same series were sold out in many stores, but are restocking it seems, but the shop I bought from said they still had preorder stock... just COVID was leaving US stores in a weird place for newer Japanese figures. Normally I catch figures on preorder direct from Good Smile. The store is affiliated, just feels like orders are all in limbo with less confidence I'll see them in a few months and not a "sorry due to shortage" despite saying they still had available numbers against their preorder stock.

I bought a figure that had to be assembled and painted without realizing it from Land of the Lustrous and regretted it. They later came out with the same figure but already assembled so I bought that one but still have the unassembled old one.
Those are called garage kits.
My biggest regrets I have a few. I heard of nendoroids so I bought a random used one on Mercari and it had the base you talked about and one figure came broken they just are so not it compared to the new good smile nendoroids . I bought a figure for 15$ on crunchyroll of fate stay night regret that too because I only bought it because it was dirt cheap. I did buy a figure I didn’t know the anime too and when I watched it , well it was weird

I have so many Love Live Sunshine figures and I hate the series so much. Honestly I could probably fill a whole video like this just about them. On the other hand, they are really cute :3 I think I've escaped Idol Hell for now but it was rough when I was really into it.

I Started Collecting Sometime In 2017 And Decide On A Maximum Of 25 Figures With One Per Franchise. My Collection Ranges From Play Arts Kai Action Figures To Scale Figures From Different Series That I Like And Or Regret Purchasing Because Of The Size Or Price Tag. Now I'm At Number 14 And Will Stop After 15 Because Of The Overall Lack Of Space And Grow Up Mentality Of Others.
buying an old nendo is easily the biggest mistake i’ve made as a collector, too. my birthday was in the beginning on january this year and a friend bought me a kagamine rin nendo for a really good price, but she broke the same way your haruhi did as soon as i took her out of the box. same bad smell and sticky texture too!! they’re beautiful, but now for the future i’ve learned my lesson to keep them inside the box (though there’s no fun in that, lol)
I mean I bought a Rem figure just based on the memes....which is interesting because I started watching Re:Zero afterwards.....

My boyfriend bought me a Semiramis statue from Fate Apocrypha 1/8th Scale and it’s one of the only really good quality figures I own but I absolutely LOVE her!
I actually have 2 figures I regret buying, not because I don't want them, but because it makes me feel like I have to get the final one in the set, which is one I actually don't want to buy. They are from Symphogear. I have 5 of them, but I only REALLY like 3 of them, and I feel like I could be pretty happy with just those 3.
For those who are curious, I really like Hibiki, Shirabe and Kirika. I also like Yukine and Tsubasa, but if I didn't have them today, I don't think I would have bought them. It could also just be because it is one of their earliest figures, and they don't really look that great in comparison to the other 3. The final one, Maria, she's pretty meh to me, I don't dislike her at all, I just don't care enough to get a figure. And with an incomplete collection of all 6, with me only having the other 5, it feels wrong to not get her as well.

My number one rule when collecting is sticking to one thing. I’ve gotten every walking dead action figure ever made and now I’m working on my all time favorite movie/franchise ever terminator. Terminator and terminator 2 only, every other movie after is ass.
My regret purchase for anime figures is Real Action Heroes Mikasa. For how expensive the figure was (I think I paid about $275), it was pretty underwhelming. The biggest issue I had was with how easily her 3D maneuver gear broke when I was just trying to equip it to her. Also, as pervy as this may sound, I was disappointed that while her clothing was a separate layer from her body, there wasn't any way to fully undress the figure without destroying some of her accessories.
I only have 2 figures and 2 pops. The 2 figures are Gintoki and Kagura from gintama. My pops are Rize from Tokyo ghoul and Kenny from AOT
Ones of my regret is a figure of ram. No hate for her but I just can’t connect to her. I just wanted her because I had too much rem figures lol. I still feel like it’s a waste of my money
I agree on buying figures off shows or characters you like but there are some figures which I have no idea who they are, that have amazing figure designs.
I always get hit with that fomo and end up buying figures for characters that have better poses in the future 😭

Thanks for sharing! Dunno, some of these figures look pretty good. I don't know if you should necessarily look at their market value, they're worth it if you derive enjoyment from them. I have figures that I regret buying, some were just impulse purchases that I rapidly cooled on and so regretted ordering, but many of these were purchased many years ago and the quality of figures in general has gone up quite a bit since then so in comparison, they just look kind of lame now. Also, one's tastes may change over time, so even with an objectively high quality figure, you always wonder if you'll still like them years down the road. Lastly, I think many of us buy figures of characters we don't know (or know somewhat but don't really watch the anime or play the game) since they just look so good, I don't think there's anything wrong with that if you have the funds and space. They sometimes end up encouraging you to watch the show. But I'm still ok with not watching the show or playing the game if I just really like the design and craftsmanship that went into the figure. So I tend to go for the pricier nicer ones than loading up on cheaper figures.

Exactly the reason I stopped buying Pop Vinyls and Funko Pops. My friends and siblings are massive collectors and I honestly just jumped on the bandwagon. Now I have a random assortment of unboxed figures that I have no connection to, are not worth selling, and just take up space. Half of the figures are top-heavy and don't stand up on their own, and I thought it would be a good idea to just stick blutack on their feet. Now those figures have blutack stuck to their feet like gum in hair. Bad choices.
that rin shibuya figure is really nice looking. as an deresute fan the figures are so hard for me to get since they're INSANELY expensive in australia. that honoka figure is lovely as well!
I saw in your tierlist video that you said Haruhi was a D tier Nendoroid so I had to come here and see why. I don't really understand your reasoning, it's an old Nendoroid of a simpler character, idk what you expected. But I guess we always have our preferences. Disappearance is my favorite movie ever so I will definitely get that Nendoroid eventually.
The older support mechanism and lack of any interesting accessories really hurts her 'playability'. Product pictures look fine but she's less than ideal in person.

i couldnt imagine the mentality of buying figures of some character you dont know. i have seem some anime and only got one figure or a character i really like like no others recently and that is about it
It kind of depends why you're in the hobby. I'd say for a lot of people it starts off as 'I just want something for this show/character I like' and then eventually evolves into people just liking and buying figures in general and buying whatever.
I am a huge love life fan and when I went to Baltimore Comic-Con in 2017 I was looking everywhere to find love live merchandise. I managed to find a booth that was selling pretty well priced figures and bought 2 for about $50. Towards the end of the con I see all that two other figures that I was eyeing up were all so still there and I had only had 50$ left, to which the seller told me it was a Sunday so they weren't planning on selling any more and just gave me two figures for the 50$ I had versus the original 80$. The figures were on the cheaper side and were middle manned from the company so I wasn't expecting great quality.
The figures I got were:
Dia Kurosawa, Mijuku Dreamer by SEGA
Dia Kurosawa, Happy Party Train by ???
Mari O'Hara, SPM super premium by SEGA
And Chika Takami, Daisuki dattara Daijobu by ???
Segas dia is by FAR the best, she's heavy and very cute, but their Mari hardly fit on her stand and her leg just about snapped off trying to get the pegs in the hole. I wouldn't say I regret anything about buying them, especially because they were so cheap, but I wasn't very impressed by the Mari.
That rin is so hard to find . I can usually find the other 2 but I want the whole set

I loved a large Trafalgar Law figure I got from Forbidden Planet 3 years ago for £69... turns out its a prize figure and worth between £10 to £30 if I am lucky! Thought for sure it was a scale 😅😂
I tried collecting kancolle & fate figmas and said to myself that i collect them all and I gradually stop collecting figmas since i lack space (the display it on default pose and never touch it again) and the cost of figmas nowadays is the same as a scale figure. So I decided to buy scale figures from now on. The only regret that im having is whether to sell my figmas because im somewhat emotionally attach to them.
My rule is that I have to watch the entire show or play the game at least once, then I think for about a month before I spare 60 dollars 😂
@The Ando Experience just letting you not to worry about the nendroids that the smell and slimy stuff is from the clear plastic they are in and to take them right out of the box when you get them and keep them out to release the gas stuff of the clear plastic will make them sticky.
She had been out of the box for like 2 years at that point lol.

I don't have too much experience with older figures so I can't really say. That Haruhi is definitely the oldest one that I own.

I own that kiss-shot and actually like it quite a bit! Of course she doesn't compare to the proper scale figures in my collection, but it's a matter of expectations. I think I spent like 1000 yen on it, for that price I believe I got something pretty good.
However I do have an Asuka prize figure I truly regret. It was one of my first figures, but after having expanded my collection I really don't like anything about that one. I also regret a Saber Alter figure I got in Japan. Even though I got it for dirt cheap (no box or base), I don't like anything about it either.
I regretted one of my first figures for the longest time and then I sat down and finished the anime the character was from and by the end of the series I was in love with her character.
Jeez you have a lot of figures (especially nendos) I almost feel like I wanna buy one
They are a slippery slope. Once you buy one you just can't stop.

i STRONGLY disagree with what you said about the reason why that rin figure didn’t sell well, as she’s one of the most popular characters in an even more popular series. what i can assume about the trio is that that particular set was a very early release in the series’ seemingly endless line of figures, and eventually more visually appealing models took their place. sucks, considering that particular rin is quite pretty.
My biggest regret ever was Cocoa by Plum (from is the order a rabbit). Quality didn't hold up to my expectations, sculpt and coloring were not satisfying, had to fix broken parts and her base was sort of high profile. After like 1 1/2 years of having her on my shelf I finally picked up Emon Toy's version of her, banned the old one back to her box and have been a happy man ever since.
I once bought a 1/8 scale figure thinking it was 1/7. Also the figure was used and smelled like an antique store
Been collecting almost 25 years, lots of regrets not buying and buying. I think I stopped preordering anything I didn't think would make me happy or didn't have proper pictures... never trust the prototypes unless you have figures from that line (though Banpresto will get worse and worse as a figure line drags on) or company. Nendoroids are pretty reliable but then I find I only play with them and never display. I also don't assemble Figmas until I've seen a reviewor MFC comments because I don't want to break anything hah. Definitely sell stuff you don't like while other people still want it, otherwise it piles up for sure.
Yep, I have a few lovelive! Beach figures and a Vegeta figure that I bought on impulse. They are good as EXQ figures go but they are just plain looking to the bulk of my figures. The the vegeta is small and boring looking aswell.

I would like to start collecting figures but there are issues: 1. My parents won't let me 2. I have tiny amount of space 3. I don't have a lot of money 4. I have younger siblings and I would be scared if they accidentally would throw the figure. Also to Rin Idolm@ster is more of an game series than anime. It all started with arcade games.

I'm the actual opposite then you XD While you have to love the character to love the figure in most cases, I mostly refuse to buy figures of characters that I know something about. When I watch a series, I really want a figure of my favourite character, but when some time passes and my enthusiasm for the show goes away, I don't like that figure anymore because it doesn't suit my asthetic.
So my main rule is to buy figues based on their asthetics and then watch the show/game/manga. If I like a figure when I have no idea about the character, I know that I will still love it after the hype of the show passes.
Anyways, I really loved your video. I also think that impuls buy is one the worst problems when it comes to figure collecting althought the bad final product quality hits hard as well

@@korreaction7296 The thing is... I don't actually hate any characters. They are characters and their purpose is to be dislikeble. I don't get touched a lot by who they are or what they did, villans or heros. That's why I buy figures by aesthetic, bc I rarely actually emotionaly connect with a character. I never hated a character that much that I wouldn't want a figure of it.
Alot of older nendoroids have the base, which is mainly nendoroids 120-250 from what i had realized. My collection is almost soley nendoroids so at this point i have a problem LMAO. Here's how it goes, circle bootleg stands we know and love, half moon stands with the same leg constricter, sqaure base *ORIGINAL* and square base KANCOLLE version which is just enlarged and used on more nendoroids with large parts such as nitocris from fgo.

They still plug into the back like a modern (300+) stand, unless there was another variation with the leg holder that I don't know about.
@@TheAndoExperience when i mean half moon, There is k-on bases that are a good example. They werent used much but they had little ears for certain animals (Azusa had cat ears)
When I went to Japan for the first time, I wanted to get some and I didn't mind getting second hand at the time since I never owned one before. Went for some junk figures without the boxes and like a month after owning them I already hated the quality and look of them lol. Nowadays I only get scale figures. Never getting junk figures again!
