    Great video! Nice roofing... I hope that over the next few years you folks in USA will stop using shingles... They are the worst for roofing a house: wind problems and poor life time. Here in Europe we used concrete tiles (ceramic) - 90% of houses were build on concrete and bricks, not so much wood structure. Since the mid 80's we use steel roofs and after so many years we have no problems with it! This stone-plated roof is quite new here, also! Great vid, again!

      Here in Mexico we use concrete slab roof/ city’s.
      Rural areas we use clay tiles and Adobe walls.

    i used to work in Boral and always wondered where all the different parts where installed on the roof

    I've never seen a steel shingle roofing system installed from the top down considering that's where the clips or anchoring points are 🤔

      Exactly. I saw they guy punching the tile to lock down instead screw 4 screws or nails

    Yeah those exposed fasteners and rubber washers are going to go bad in no time.

    Just curious.Have you had any leaks from the screws.

      No leaks. The screws go into the overlapped metal tiles and into the 2X2's. Does feel cooler in our 2nd story in summer heat. Not loud at all when it rains. Happy so far.

    The roof looks great but why get rid of a fireplace?

    • @bobs.8022
      @bobs.8022  2 роки тому +1

      It was furnace chimney, not for a fireplace.

      @@bobs.8022 Okay. Normally furnace chimneys aren't so glamorous.

      That was an old furnace chimney now vented out the side of the house.

    Interesting video, couple of things I noticed that didn't like were complete lack of safe working practices, including no edge protection, harnesses or ladder stays. The angle of the fixing screws into the tiles looked to be at about a 45 degree angle, all metal tile manufactures I have dealt with specify a fixing lower on the toe of the tile and at an angle closer to parelell with the tile face. Same again with the ridge caps, I have never seen a fixing directly through the top of the cap before. Fixing should be horizontal on either side of the cap. I guess different places have different standards and because they were roofing over an existing roof they probally weren't too worried about leaks as old roof or paper or ply should stop any small leaks from getting too far. At the end of the day metal roof tiles are one of the very best roofing systems and customers should make sure the installers or at least their foreman or supervisor on site is qualified to install this product so avoid incorrect practices as seen on this video. Thanks for making and posting the video.

      About 60 percent more than hi end asphalt.

  • @roadstar499
    @roadstar499 4 роки тому

    what is the cost vs if you would have replaced using asphalt as you already had??? thanks

      The cost at the time of install was about double and maybe a bit more.

    You didn't stagger them. I can see every row going up the roof. These types of roof look better when there staggered rather ran like regular asphalt shingles, Other then that it looks good.

    I found the hard way that "Lifetime Warranty" of anything, really, is a misleading promise, arguably "false advertising". I found out from my 8-yr old stone-coated steel roof, 50% of whose stone coatings came off after just one pressure wash (but I notice it only after a few more years, when a friend visited and flew his drone over the house). Those areas are showing the base steel. Based on this and other experiences in my 68 yr old life, I have realized why lifetime warranties mean nothing when push comes to shove. First of all, it is nearly impossible to file a claim. If you can find a phone number, you will find/hear one of the following: 1) The number you have called is no longer in service.. etc. 2) After spending a couple of hours on various numbers, you will learn that the company had shut down years ago, and no entity in the industry is now accountable. 3) If, hypothetically, you reach the proper claim office, AND provide them all the info, they will find many reasons to not cover your claim. Fav ones are: improper use (you have too many trees that cast shadows and dropped leaves, promoting algae growth and damage to the glue; wrong wash chemical or pressure; the warranty is for the material only, and we are only vendor / distributor, so call the manufacturer. But we do not have their contact info, because we have moved on to a different, space-age, polymer-based material, which has (guess what?) "Life-time Warranty". Any suggestion about what I can do with my roof now? My phone number is: 251-454-1255 (in USA) (Not sure, but my roof is probably Decra, not Boral).

    Why not just Tare off the old roof and get rid of all the junk and check for rotted plywood underneath

      I was relying on the advice from the installers. They had inspected everything before the new install. At any rate it has been 9 years now with no problems. Thanks for your question.
