    Excellent information. I set my limit at 40 yards, and I have one the fastest TenPoint bows. Thats the same limit I had with my Turbo GT model also. We have to be ethical hunters, the game we hunt deserves it.

    Well said. I have been a bow hunter over 40 years and this is nothing but the truth. Listen to his advice.

    40 yards is my limit with my excalibur 340 shooting 150 grain bolt cutters on pro flights. I practice 60 yard shots and know I can shoot tight enough groups to ruin my bolts($$$$$)2-3inch groups on a bad day. I just know 40+ gives them enough time to react to the sound of the bow and run the risk of wounding a deer. I hunt Fields from the wood line so no branches to worry about. I made a few 50 yard shots on deer and had a clean pass through even through rib bones but 50 yards is still pushing it but the shot felt right so I took it. I have let a bunch walk at 30 and 40 yards just because I didn't feel like it was a good call to take the shot at the time as well.
    Really comes down to having good judgement and knowing what your gear can and can't do through practice. I'm sure plenty of people dropped deer 60 or 70 yards perfectly fine but I know with my bow anything past 40 yards is high risk for one to duck or jump the bolt. I've seen first hand the amount of pain and suffering a poorly placed shot can inflict on a animal and I can tell you 90% of the animals I've choose not to pull the trigger on I've seen again in the future. I'd rather let another hunter be able to also use good judgement and maybe look take a clean shot on that deer while I wait for another deer take will give me a more favorable shot that I can feel more confident in taking for my freezer.
    Where I'm from if you get a deer you share with friends and neighbors what you can and they do the same so it's a win win.

    Excellent video. This is totally different than what your competitor Ravin promotes. They encourage taking 100 yard shots. All Ravin does is fuel the flames of those who do not like crossbows, calling them crossrifles and wanting them banned.

    I enjoy enjoyed you video, great information and you explained it so that it very easy to understand. I am a crossbow hunter and i am a senior hunter i love the information about the ethical Hunter. My limit for distance is 40 yards, i want to put the animal down as quickly and clean as possible. So thanks for the info about the arrow and how it drops and the weight and kinetic energy. Thanks again.

    I’m a bit surprised that more people don’t know this. Nonetheless, it’s good that this information is out there.

    Shot my invader 400 for the first time today. 40 yards is where I plan the deer to be standing, so I practiced at 50. First thing I noticed is how LOUD the crossbow is right out of the package so I've bought dampeners. Next is that there is definitely time for a deer to react before the bolt will reach the animal at 50, so I'm hoping the reduction of sound and limiting myself to about 40 yards will make the difference. Will be practicing 1 more time before taking in to the field, but crossbows are definitely not rifles and it should be more advertised more as a close range fast speed bow than a long range bow that shoots like a gun.

    I agree with alot of this, but I only hunt open fields with my 10point turbo S1, and I use a burris oracle x. This bow groups insanely tight at 60 yards, and with my BOG DEATHGRIP, I'll shoot a deer, in an open field, out to 60-70 yards

    Shooting a 526 Grain bolt at 355fps pretty good at 50 yards, but that would certainly be my limit.

    I still limit myself to 30 yards, I know how fast a deer can react and don't want to be looking for a wounded deer in the dark, if I can't find it right away it's coyotes dinner. I have a Viper S400 and am shooting the Elite pro 400 bolts. I know the crossbow can shoot farther but it's just what I believe is a good ethical range especially with how loud crossbows are.

    I'll say this-ive never had a penetration problem even out to 35yds. Almost over penetration. But just because it's in the field-id never think of anything passed 45yds. 50 has me aiming too high-my angles gotta b affected out there

    Lol man what about out west where they regularly take 80 - 100 yd shots with bows let alone cross bow. I think the only true ethical distance is in the skill level of the shooter. No set distance.

    • @johnbarron4265
      @johnbarron4265 3 роки тому +1

      Yeah it depends on the landscape and the animal moreso than the skill of the hunter, especially with crossbows. Safe to say, 80 yards will never be an ethical shot on a whitetail with any archery equipment.

    I agree but its tough to take this seriously when 10 pt and all the other manufactures keep advertising Blistering speed and tiny hundred yard groups. Don’t tell me they are talking about target shooting when your marketing the latest greatest camo pattern and lighter weight bows. 😂

    • @FlyingHighVeteran
      @FlyingHighVeteran 2 роки тому +2

      Your confusing advertising hype with what he’s talking about-ethical shot distance. I have a fast crossbow and I’ve tested it out to 70 yards & can shoot accurately at that distance. However, I also noticed beyond 50 there is a significant delay from the sound of the shot and the sound of impact above 50-enough to know taking a target capable of movement above that range is not wise, if you’re concerned with making a clean kill.

    I like 30 yards or less in archery learn to hunt closer.
