The Germans, under the parameters of this contract would be required to build three of the MEKO A200 variant already in service, then I believe the upgraded A210 would be built in Australia, just like the standard Mogami frigate would be built in Japan and the upgraded longer ranged 32 VLS variant would be built here. ( both standard vessels that are in actively in service vessels in Germany and Japan do not satisfactorily meet Australian requirements against the likes of China. The upgraded versions of both do.
Australia was supposed to build the subs. The company I worked for went bust because they were relying on going from the air warfare destroyers we built to the subs. But the government pulled the plug on it and didn't provide a bridging contract, essentially killing Australian Navy ship building on shore.
Japan offered to build Australia the subs ,after we broke agreement with france ,so we probably won't get their frigates , we find the most expensive least reliable country to build them.
We have to get whichever is more expensive, takes the longest to build and the most underpowered (both technologically and lethality). It would be downright un-Australian to choose something that would be delivered on time, on budget and most likely better value for money.
@@braidend4379 unlike the Germans the Japanese never apologised for their extreme cruelties and don’t teach remorse in school. The US still occupies them for a reason.
@@SpikeProtein-c3p So you want their government to teach them to be ashamed of themselves even though they were just a gear in the machine they had no control over?
The Coalition have never had faith in Australian manufacturing and technology. So no surprise when it comes to his naive comment. What radar ? What combat system what weapons. Australia do have a good relationship with Japan fortunately, but certainly not because of the Coalition. With the auto industry betrayal not forgotten by Australians or the Japanese. And we all realise who originally instigated the retreat from automotive manufacturing in Australia. More political BS..... 😎🇦🇺
We had a very close relationship with other countries but have failed them, israel/US/UK/ PNG/Ukraine the list goes on. But we have formed new relationships like, Palestine/Hamas etc with money and support.
What a ridiculous comment. They have more self respect and honor than their overbearing neighbors to their north. I say, be very wary of your Chinese bot comments.
generally products made in Germany are almost always very problematic, while made in Japan, it just runs like a clock work
We should also go with Japanese submarines.
Long gone !
Unfortunately that option was taken away after Tony Abbott was shafted by Pyke and Turnbull when they went for the French convert Nuclear to Diesel

Japanese ships will be designed specifically for dealing with Chinese aggression, seems obvious.

won't take liebor long to destroy any good relationship with Japan. is there a day that goes by without them doing something stupid?
Australia also has a strong relationship with Germany also !
And what good is that relationship now with them going down the gurgler and desperate for gullible foreigners to buy their out of date old technology
for sure.
Just wait for the numbers to be cut by Liebor .....................
Japan need everything buy German. Japan and Aussie fight together with ships.
They'd better considering China's beligerence in the south china sea...

Japanese cars and bikes etc are bullet proof…. Go naval ships as well, they should be bulletproof proof as well…
I thought we were buying British
Don’t mention the war.
both Germany and Japan were on the other side. What's your point?

@ not shame, responsibility.

Sounds great share the contract between them 6 of6
Of course to order them from Japan will be cheaper and faster but I prefer Germany.
Japan is an island nation and their manufacturing is on par with Germany, possibly even better.

And Palestine/Hummus supporters have given us nothing but trouble in return.
Give it time, Albanese can screw up this relationship too.

Australian's especially the youth, could learn a lot from the Japanese, eg respect and work ethic.
