Hey...Just wanted to say that coming across your videos was an awesome find! I've been producing music with a great home studio setup using Pro Tools as my DAW. The world of audio book production presented itself recently, so I'm just learning and wanting to fully understand the technical requirements required by ACX. Your series has been amazingly helpful and I so appreciate you taking the time to make them. Keep up the awesome work!
How are you getting -60 roomtone? I have pads around the walls, and I even put my mic in a box to test it. At 6 gain on the mic, I am getting -54 to -48. If I lower the gain less than 6, I need to increase the volume in the mix, and I am back to -54 to -48. I'm using CLEAR, and it removes everything I need, but I would always like to start with a cleaner recording.
Not sure if you'll see this comment, but here's hoping. I have a PC and my nephew mentioned that -60 decibels could be a problem because of my PC audio drivers. Do I need to worry about that? Is there a way around it if I do?
I'm not sure either. Recording in, could be a problem. Depends on the mic/interface you use. Audio chips on pcs ( and there drivers) can cause noise to go through the headphone amp circuit and into your headphones, the problem here is that although it not in the recording, you have no way to tell. If you are using a half decent interface, shouldn't be a problem.
You give brilliant information and you are a great help, but I really wish you weren't laying in that background elevator music. Trust yourself and your knowledge. People wanting to learn about sound recording don't need the distraction. Thanks.

Thank you. Your not the first to mention that and it's certainly feedback I have taken on board for my more recent videos 😉
