If you think this 6x6 Oshkosh Striker is heavy, you haven't seen an old Oshkosh 1985 P-15 8x8 with it's 4.5 feet diameter high floatation tires. That thing was nearly 85,000 lbs and had two Detroit engines in it, one at the rear and one behind the cab. It was likely the heaviest fire truck ever built.

Just this morning I was on Indiana rte.63 heading north out of Terre Haute In. when I came up behind a lowboy hauling a brand new Striker unit,we were in a construction zone which brought the road down to two lanes.
when I was finally able to go around after the construction zone ended you can imagine my disappointment when I found out it wasn't being pulled by Orwell.
The Striker was headed for the Elanco facility in Clinton,IN.

Spent 6 months building the cabinets and inside wood work on a luxury yacht . 129,000 bucks only to have the truck driver go off his scheduled route and try to pass under a 13 foot bridge ! Ruined the whole boat and wood work . The boat was rebuilt and I made new cabinets and interior wood work . 2nd attempt to deliver they had a spotter with the driver to make sure no deviations from the route chosen was violated . It hit another bridge and the error was made by the guy that routed it ! The story gets even better . Insurance guy investigating found that the second bridge it hit was built 4 inches lower than blue prints stated it was supposed to be ! Never saw that boat again !

You got me very interested in Interstate bridge clearances because of your 14 foot load. So, I went to a DOT website and read about the limited Interstate Priority Network where States were encouraged to modify bridges to a 16-foot clearance issued by the Federal Highway Administration in 1978. So, I'm wondering how many Interstate bridges are now less than 16 feet.

Using a piece of rope then measuring the rope, is much easier when checking height
I'm curious to know the penalty for running oversize without any indication it's oversize, no flags, no signs, and no amber lights 🤔
I saw two this week...I'm guessing they didn't want to use the route they're supposed to take

This is a stock 3406B Caterpillar (7FB variant) with a turbo so it's rated for 425 HP (312.5 kW). He could crank it up with mods to get almost double the power, but it would hit his fuel efficiency (5.5 - 6 MPG, 42.7 - 39.2 l/100km)

heavy beastie... silly question for you, the gladhands at the end of the trailer, is that for working on the trailer? ie working on tires etc or is that for somethign else? I enjoy seeing the parts of WI I used to go as a kid

This trailer has the ability to have an extra dolly set up on the back so you can have extra axles (and thus extra tires) to disperse the load if it's really oversized. Steve doesn't have that though and if he did, he would most likely need to upgrade to another rig with extra power (or modding Orwell) to pull the heavier loads.

I was just wondering what happens if the load damaged in transport. For an example let’s say you measure the load height and it’s within interstate limits but for some reason it’s get damaged by an overpass which was lower for than these limits for whatever reason. Do you than have to return the load to where you collect it so it can be repaired by them or do you continue on and deliver the load to port where it will get repaired overseas at it destination. Who insurance will have to pay if it not your fault because of overpass not within legal limits? This is just an extreme example I know but I’m just curious how it would be handled?

A while back I had one on video that went to Africa. There were two trucks. The one I hauled made it, but the other was damaged by one of the ports by a forklift. That was a long time to settle. I never heard how it was repaired or where.

Optics have coatings to control transmission and reflection at the lens surface. You'd have to know whether rain-x would harm those coatings before using it on a camera lens.
