As an Irishman, and as someone who's seen seen this series a couple of times, don't think I've clicked on a video as fast
I loved Moon Boy as well. Sad that it was discontinued.
This channel gets a lot of viewz so its great to see Derry girls gets more people watching that never seen before only because i feel its a brilliant show and who ever wrote it has great wit and humour. And I would like to see them do other shows
I've just started watching it about a week ago my favourite character is the nun
Saaaaame!! I love that Derry Girls is getting international views! It’s also a comfort watch for me, we’ve been rewatching it at Christmas as a family and I think it’s going to be a new family tradition!
My family is US liberal Catholic and my sister in law is Catholic Irish- not American Irish Catholic, this show is hilarious
Derry Girls is so well written and acted.
There is literally no bad episode of Derry Girls, in any of the seasons. It's a fantastic show. I've re-watched it so many times lol.
I watched it twice one after the other.
true
Trivia: all of the actors playing the teens in the main cast (Erin, Orla, Clare, Michelle, James) are actually 28-35 years old.
Seems like Nicola will never age
Iit's a wonder what good acting and well written characters can do
@@lindala2602 And good makeup that doesn't prioritize making everyone look like they just rolled off a red carpet (side-eyes riverdale)
Literally every high school show
@@mksketchms at least they look/are written like actual teenagers
Oh NO WAY! You HAVE to continue this series. Seriously one of the best comedies of the last decade at least. Pro-tip, it's not really necessary to understand the show but I would suggest doing some reading on the conflict in Northern Ireland if you're unfamiliar. It might help with certain background context of the time and circumstances these young people and their families are living in. Once you get to season 3, read about the Belfast Good Friday Agreement. It's the document which helped put an end to the 30 year conflict in Northern Ireland. Apologies for the long comment, I'm just a Canadian who is very interested in this particular subject and time period and this show is so good and so much more than just that historical context.
As a Canadian, how did you become interested in the Northern Ireland conflict, if you don't mind me asking?
@@artspooner That's a really good and complicated question. I had seen movies in high school such as Michael Collins and In the name of the Father and didn't think much else about my own ancestry until 2016 when my grandmother on my fathers side died. Now, she was of Scottish ancestry but her husband, my grandfather had parents who were Irish and they both met serving in the RCAF during WW2 and I started looking at my mothers side whom my great grandfather was born in 1900 in Cookstown Tyrone. Now when my grandmother died I latched onto Irish trad and Irish contemporary music and some of that involves Irish as a language to deal with the grief and naturally that lead to more learning about Irish history including the Northern Irish conflict. I've been trying to learn some Irish on Duolingo fot almost a year now Edit, not ti mention Derry Girls is a wicked shoe
@@drewc981 ahh, I see. Thanks for taking the time to reply!
@@artspooner No worries, bud! I'm just glad to tell a bit of my grandparents story. It's a privilege to know where family comes from
as someone from ireland, it's great to see that you have a really good understanding of the troubles!
The blonde with the great facial expressions is Nicola Coughlan, who is also on Bridgerton as Penelope Featherington.
Love her so much
Also going to be in Christmas 2024 Doctor Who
Erin: You better not have brought my diary to school!
Orla: I had to, I’m doing my book report on it 😂😂😂
The Cranberries are an Irish band from the era that this show is set. Almost all of their songs are about the political climate of the time... extremely relevant.
The soundtrack across this series is incredible!, there's a great Derry Girls spotify playlist that has them all
An Indian girl here who went to a Convent Girls School like the Derry girls, I enjoyed the show so much: really laughed my relatable ass off through this.
This is how girl groups actually are and I’m glad it’s a female focused comedy
In an interview Lisa McGee basically said we've seen comedies about guys being dicks so it was about time to see some girls being dicks. 😅
@@ericisprobablyfullofshit7797i luv that hahaha
4:51 She was talking about Pulp Fiction. This show takes place in the 90s
I love Sister Michael. She's just not what you expect when you think of a nun.
I LOVE Derry Girls. By far the best comedy TV-series in years! Keep watching!!!
As a half Irish and half English man, I am ashamed to admit I haven't seen this show but I will most definitely have to watch it now. From what I gather from clips I have seen, this show will strike a cord for me that hasn't been done before. Grew up surrounded by Irish people having an English accent and family I was the target of an unhealthy amount of bullying and as I have gotten older I understand why. Doesn't justify it but it definitely makes it funnier knowing about the history between Ireland and England. This show seems to know exactly how to ride the line and looks hilarious.
Absolutely go for it ,it's gold
You're gonna relate so much to poor James
Probably be a great show to relate to and laugh through the trauma healing . It’s one of my favorites
PLEAASE Get your Irish passport. You have been born into gold!
The Nun is one of the best characters i hope you continue this series.
Oh I love her! She's brilliant!
And Dennis. Awesome show perfectly written!
I’m always pushing reactors to watch this show, it’s hilarious and so underrated
The movie Michelle was talking about is Pulp Fiction. I LOVE this show! It was set in the same years in the 90s that I went to high school, so all the music and movie references are so cool!
2 lads wearing crackin' suits who rock about shooting people and eating cheeseburgers. It's got your man in it. The disco dancer from Look Who's Talking....lol.
me too thinks pulp fiction … that was the first mivie that came to my mind
The Bobby Sands joke is so underrated! 😂. Need to know your recent Irish history to get that one!
Aye, I was like "oh no she didnt" 🤣
what joke
@@jam9837 Michelle tell Erin “take Bobby sands with ye”. She was referring to Claire who was fasting for charity. Bobby sands went on hunger strike whilst in prison.
I did not expect this at all, but it’s VERY MUCH WELCOMED. Love this show!
I love this show so much since it first came to Netflix.
The setting is in the early 90s during The Troubles in Ireland. Derry is also where the conflict began decades prior when the soldiers opened fire on unarmed citizens.
So that's the setting here.
It's so hilarious, the show.
The film Michelle is talking about, I believe, is Pulp Fiction.
The girl who plays Erin, I think it was, is actually from Derry herself.
Looking forward to you guys watching the rest of this
One of my favorite jokes from the entire series is in this episode. Michelle’s revelation that James was supposed to be aborted is low key great writing. James’ face when he hears it is fantastic. The subtle facial expressions and acting choices by our main cast 🤌🏼
Very funny. The two guys above watching the clips didn't know what to do with their faces came she said that. 😅😅😅
I’m from Derry!! So happy you guys are enjoying this so far, and my hometown humour🇮🇪 hope you continue watching!
I happened to accidentally watch this series on Netflix and decided to watch because of Nicola Coughlan. Ended up becoming a fan and watching the series till the final season. Glad you guys are reacting to this😁
Me too first I started watching it because of Nicola and now I'm just addicted to the show 🤣
same!! i just like nicola couglan and recognize siobhan smtg bt the show has me hoookedd omg.
this is such a good surprise, derry girls is incredible!!!!
Derry Girls is so amazing and funny and so original, as who didn't know what had happened the context of that time is so exciting and so well thought-out.
Wish more people would react to this show, it’s sooooooo good. It helps if you know a wee bit about Northern Ireland and the troubles plus the conflict between England and Ireland but honestly it’s universally hilarious.
The second episode introduces Uncle Colm. No spoilers but he is brilliant
NO WAY YOU'RE REACTING TO DERRY GIRLS. Okay I was having a rough week (month, year, life lol) but this more than makes up for it. You'll love it. I hope. It's the funniest thing I've seen on Netflix so far.
This brings so much joy to my heart. To see these types of smaller lesser known UK shows being reacted to by large creators is such a joy.
As a Derry man now (44) this was my era and I can tell you the griefing and slagging was part and parcel of growing up... and what people fail to realize sometimes is that she treats James the same way as she treats everyone else... she's always digging at Clare and Erin AND James...no one digs on Orla (because she is the heart)
I can’t wait for you to watch Sister Michael get going. 😂
She is my favorite. One of the nuns who taught me is a bit like her, although not as funny.
'Keening' is the vocalisation you hear at the end of the song, and is traditionally Irish and Scottish. It's a melodic wailing led by women in mourning of the dead.
The writing, acting , directing , characters is outstanding 👌
Oh man! I was just gearing up to watch Derry girls for the 4th time. I’m glad I can enjoy your reactions too!
The music is one of the great assets of the show. Apparently a few songs didn’t have the rights to air on Netflix and were changed but most all of them are from the original soundtrack.
So happy you guys watched this. My favorite comfort show
Yay! Please continue reacting to Derry Girls. It's fantastic!
I stumbled across this show a few months back on Netflix’s. I was in stitches by the end of the first episode. Can’t wait for series 3 to be available on Netflix
I don't know where you live but it's already available in Asia.
@@nager1997its free on all4
One of my the most hilarious and touching shows. So glad you'll be cover it.
I'm so glad you guys are reacting to this show! It's amazing! I hope you keep reacting to it because it just gets better every season. The creator has also done a wonderful job of balancing the teenage angsty story lines with the serious issue of the conflict in Northern Ireland at the time. Plus, Sister Michael is the GOAT.
i genuinely wish i could experience this show for the first time
i’m genuinely not kidding when i say i’ve rewatched derry girls at least 50 times, i wish i could watch it for the first time again
This is one of my favorite shows! I'm so glad you all are reviewing it. You'll find yourself really enjoying each character all for different reasons but Sister Michael has gotta be my fave. Her one liners are fantastic! The actors in the show always just feel real to me. Not only is it funny but when they start talking more about the troubles in Northern Ireland you feel how its really affecting their lives. I think you'll really enjoy the whole series.
This is the first time I’ve seen anyone react to Derry Girls. It’s so good, especially the very last episode.
I also was in a convent school in the 90s but in England and remember the Troubles well.
Derry Girls is one of my favorite shows, it has everything in it, lots of comedy, historic moments, heartwarming moments, suspense n a big celeb cameo appearance even. Looking forward to watch your reactions to Derry Girls
I absolutely loved this show! Hope you continue with it
I loved this show. I avoided it for a while but now I’ve watched to three times already.
I am from India and i dont know how I encountered a show show from Ireland but it is one of the best sitcoms I have watched... I liked it even more than friends and modern family.... But sadly it ended with the third season... Are there any other show like this... Will be Glad to watch them
You'll like Father Ted, its about Irish priests that like on an island (Ireland) and its hilarious....its from the 90's
This is such a good show! I highly recommend watching the whole series even if you don’t make videos of it
This was vaguely on my radar but I finally checked it out because I saw you were reacting to it and this pilot was just hilarious! The girl whose facial expressions you loved, I don't remember the name of the actress but she in currently in Bridgerton in a serious role and she's really good.
4:59---she's talking about Pulp Fiction. 2 guys, craicing suits who shoot people...Jules and Vincent
I live in the US, but went to an all girls Catholic school in the 90s so this show is one of my absolute favorites. I have watched and rewatched it. I was so excited to see someone reacting to it. You won't be disappointed. There's a definite shift in season 3. COVID messed with the filming of it and I think the show took on a more serious tone, but the first two seasons are amazing and the 3rd is very good.
This is a video I keep revisiting….just loving how much Jaby loves the show😂
so stoked!!!! can't wait for the reactions
Finally, thanks guys for starting this show ✌😁
Derry Girls is great, so here for your reactions!
I’m so happy y’all are reacting to this finally 😁
Jaby and Andrew. Dear lord I'm feeling the vapors. And I love Derry Girls!!!
I watch all these episodes over and over, it's so addicting.
Oh my gosh I have never seen someone react to this, but I am SO excited! This became such a comfort show for me, I absolutely love it. Loved the video (totally agree about the show nailing the identities of each character in this one episode), can't wait to continue with you!
the whole series is sooo amazing! i love all their character arcs :') specially michelle and james lmao
I discovered this show by accident, but I definitely enjoyed! The writing and acting was very well done. I just wish we could've got another season.
It's the most underrate show... Love from India. It's actually one of my favorite shows on netflix
I think the film that Michelle is referring to is “Pulp Fiction,” since the show is set in the early/mid 90’s, and she mentions about them eating cheeseburgers in the movie, sort of a reference to Travolta’s iconic line about “Cheese Royale.”
The movie Michelle was talking about at the beginning of the episode was probably "Pulp Fiction" It was released about the same time as this series is set (mid 90's)
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS, finally there's people reacting to this show!!!!!!
Is so underrated, I found it by chance and I laughed my ass off.
So happy to see you reacting to this! I love this show, it's so hilarious and yet touching at times.
Pretty sure the movie Michelle is telling us about just having watched when we first meet her is Pulp Fiction-- "two guys wearing cracking suits, shooting people and eating cheeseburgers."
And the disco dancer from Look Who's Talking is John Travolta.
omg im from sea and know so little about european history and only watched this becuz of nicola coughlan and i was HOOKED frm start to finish! It's so brilliantly funny, engaging and interesting and i LOVE how they contrasted the serious issues going on what w the political climate of that time, like wow!
The film they referenced was pulp fiction, hence the song! Love this show and the reactions!
Yes!!! Please keep watching Derry Girls. Such a unique show and such a talented cast
Michelle talking about Pulp Fiction is brilliant as she references “look who’s talking” which would the girls exposure to John Travolta. It’s so beautifully written with the def nods to the 90’s
Glad you found this gem. You should look into Misfits (2009). It’s a hilarious superhero themed British TV series!
Love you guys reacting to this.x
I LOVE this show. It's so genuinely funny. The characters are all just hilarious. I hope you continue with it!
Zombie is actually about British soldiers in the time of the troubles, zombie was a nickname given to the British soldiers because they considered Ireland an open range
I discovered this show recently and fell in love in an instant. Can't believe y'all did a reaction over a year ago
Great series, glad you started it.
OMG didn't expect this but you have to have to watch all the episodes! It's the best thing ever
Derry GIrls!? That's crack♥ Please watch the whole series.
The Irish thing in the Cranberries song is called "keening"
the way the scene with the military on the bus is done is so good. no one is freaking out about it, it's a reat way to show how normal it all was
So glad you’re going to continue. This is like Blackadder; funny and dry with a soccer-punch ending.
Can't wait to see your reaction to Uncle Colm... I couldn't stop laughing for three days...
OMG u guys r gonna LOVE THIS- I've rewatched the series TWICE and it never gets old XD
My Chem teacher used to speak just like this..... 🤣💀
Finally!!! I’m now suscribed and ready to see you guys watch the show!! 🙏🏼🖤
Love this show. I grew up 80's Northern Ireland. It's so refreshing hearing your thoughts and prospective on this. Enjoy it Lads, it's great craic.
Hopped over here from cine desi channel but I LOVE Derry Girls. It's actually really interesting to see the comedy against Ireland's political backdrop for the era it's set in but you will see as you go along.
Wow😂… I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT SHOW… watched it like 4 times . Also never imagined yall reacting to it
YESSSSS OMFG! PLEASE CONTINUE REACTING TO THIS SHOW! ITS AMAZING!
Omg. The way your guys face went to red from laughing. Dude you were not giggling. That was belly laughs. 😂🤣 and I was too. I gotta go watch season 2 now.
THIS IS SOOOO RANDOM 😭😭 i love this show.
I didn't realize people would be reacting to this. Yay!! I thought it was quite hilarious at times.
Love that you are reacting to this!
As a Mexican American from Southern California who has enjoyed all three seasons of this underrated hilarious series you have no idea how happy and excited i was and instantly get my snacks ready to watch like comment and subscribe! The emotions you will get. 🤣😞😵💫
Same, same , same.
One of the girls is actually 31 when this was made,
Omg I'm so happy about this reaction and I hope y'all continue
This show is fucking fantastic. Sister Michael is the GOAT
Cant believe you guys reacting to this! 🎉 Thank you!
