While in my gearing, me and an enemy Halland torp killed each other. The Halland all chatted "How did I get open water killed by those old ass torps!" I lost it. Those old torps love hitting backline Yamatos who just slow sail across the horizon.
You sound almost apologetic for not putting up monster numbers in the Gearing in that second game. Don't. DD's are the most tactical ships in the game (barring the ridiculous CV's) in that they control movement, positioning, pace of the game in the area of the map that they're playing, if they're being played right. Sometimes that means you get a dozen torp hits for crazy damage, but more often it means you're doing the unheralded (and often unfortunately unrewarded) "dirty work" of "merely" spotting, seizing capture points or blocking others from doing that, countering enemy DDs, blocking access to certain areas, countering pushes, etc. I'm finding that the more that WG seems to water the game down with stupid, gimmicky ships, the more crucial that good DD play becomes, but also the more rare it is that we see it. That game of yours exemplifies that.
I always find people get so consumed by their own personal battle. They forget that the map is larger than the 5 tiles that make up their fighting space and just get mad at everyone else because no one helped them in, what to them, was the biggest most important battle of the match. The community can get so toxic at times that i will turn chat off. Doesn't help the anger pings though but at least its something. I'm currently taking a break from this game because it just stopped being fun. I'm putting way too much hope in the new command rework bringing back some fun.

Gearing is all rounder DD. Good artillery and torpedo performance, Considerable AA capability, Teamplay with smoke and AA, Good concealment to spot someone
I've always thought it would be really cool if the Gearing got the Kidd treatment, either as a T10 armory ship or as a hull upgrade to the ship. Have an alternate hull that loses a torp rack and gains heal + def aa, losing speed boost. The ship would be really fun to play and be a nice anti-cv dd along the lines of Halland, but more gunboat focused.
I started with the French and German DD lines, and only got to T6 before starting to absolutely hate my life... Decided to give the American line a try and absolutely loved it. Coming from the Wooster and DM I was already used to the gun arch and having the flexibility to slow down your gameplay when the situation calls for it solved so many issues for me. Having the option to just sit and farm with the guns from either an island or the two minute long smoke (lol) meant I didn't feel pressured to run around like an idiot making bad plays because I was trying to get torp angles when I didn't need to, or baiting myself into charging a smoke just because I had Hydro or reload available, and dying for it. Honestly, what you said about it being a great introduction to DDs was spot on based on my first-hand experience. Went from absolutely hating DD play and never wanting to queue as one to finish my grind, to absolutely loving it and queuing in them more often than any other ships. For anyone still questioning what DD they want to give a try, I HIGHLY endorse the recommendation to start here. Sincerely, Your Average, Non-Super Unicom Player.

I’ve never noticed before so I assume it’s new, but when you were in the port at the end of you going over the build screen right before you clicked battle, that the ship in port has like 2 water/bilge pumps running on the side of the ship! I tend to run a similar build but take RPF. Found that I didn't use my speed boost that much so I've been taking DFAA and it does help deter CV's - especially when T8.

Gearing was my first tier 10 dd, and I decided to train 2 captains for either a torp or gun build, the only down side is having to switch the upgrade equipment, I would use the gun build with rpf for ranked and torp build for randoms.
I wish the captain skills allowed for a full torp build and radio detect. You now need more points to reach the old 19 points and youre 1 pt away from having it all
DD is all about area control... If you control your area, you are considered as good. The problem is there is no indicators for this. WG should add more achievement for spotting, torpedo spotting.
Gearing torps are so good alone it's worth investing in ROF for the guns for balanced utility, particularly if you're good at using USN DD 5"/127mm guns.
5”/38. . . Got nerfed when there were just two lines, Japan & US. Unfortunately buffs come and go, but nerfs are forever. Served on a Coast Guard Cutter with a Navy surplus single 5”/38, probably from a decommissioned Fletcher. So it bugs the Hell out of me that they won’t mitigate those arcs. Light cruiser 6” guns got the same treatment, of course. Cleveland - gets the guns nerfed at Tier VI, then gets jumped to Tier VIII with just a slight armor upgrade.
Never apologies for saying anything. Sure, most of us know that, but there is always someone that doesn't. Yes I am guilty of blame shifting. Esp. Since I have no idea how they played since I am not watching their game. I am sorry for that and it will happen again. I would also like to have a motto at the start of each game to remind all, but mostly myself, that, "No one is as good as you, just as no one is as bad as you." YOU know who YOU are, just as I know who I am. If you believe in time then it is a new year and let us try to go easy on those better than us and help those not as good as us. I am right now on benson and i really struggle to get torp hits in it, they are pretty slow( 55 kts base speed) i was gonna go for a torp build but now i miggt switch to gun boat build.
Isn't just DDs getting blamed. I hate when someone dies early and spends the entire match spamming the chat with how he is dead because the whole team sucked and he couldn't "carry everybody". The thing I am seeing lately is when you tell them off, some of them jump into stats and start telling you they know more than you because they have more wins. (In the 4 times in the last 3 days, I have no idea if they really do, could care less about his stats.)
Since you are using a torp build I think you should drop the adrenalin rush and instead go for either rpf or dazzle for those times when you do get spotted to give you better chance of getting away unscathed. If you were gun build then sure AR would be cool but with the torp it would be better to know where abouts the closest unseen is so you can throw blocking/lucky hit torps in the right direction more efficiently. Just a thought :~)
@@xsouldriverx I can understand where you are coming from with the torp load time being affected by AR but I try to not be spotted and try not to lose much hp when in DD so AR only helps if you play poorly or are unlucky. Also the dazzle helps in that situation also unless some git pops a radar or some such lol, turn away with dazzle making you harder to hit and drop some smoke and you can disappear from their view but with rpf you still know where they are. Just a thought on what you said. There are benefits to both setups but as I say, I try to avoid damage as much as possible so AR not help me as much on DD's.

Do you think legendary mod gearing with full torp build and the main battery reload captain skill with all the torp skills would be good since it offsets the unique upgrade downsides? It takes a full 21 point commander to do though.
I play my Gearing as a torp boat with full AA smoke and DFAA full is not bad against CVs its still 1 of the best DDs in game it just gets out gunned by other DDs a bit.
I actually was gonna grind for the japanese dd line, but then i learnt that gearing can stealth torp........Playing the faragut i thought that all american dd's can't stealth torp....and this video makes me wanna grind to the gearing even more badly
Honestly, you should grind the Gearing 1st. Its an all around DD. get good at gearing and then you can easily adapt to torp or gunboat DDs easily. Gearing is good at everything aside from speed.

She badly needs a remodel to not be so chunky as well. Also, I wouldn't recommended a gun build as it'll get you into trouble. Not enough range without grabbing Main Battery Expert for you captain and that will cost you skills Gearing needs. Also, you'll try fighting too many DDs that have heals or out DPM you plus the fact you take damage pretty easily when you're spotted. If you don't take more range, you're trying to smoke and use guns within Soviet radar range, which sucks. Overall, Gearing being one the first 2 DDs released has just been severely power-crept.
I feel like the Fletcher is a more agile ship than the Gearing which seems weird to me. I think if the Gearing were more agile it would be the appropriate teek for the line all things considered considered. I actually prefer to play the Fletcher even against tier 10's myself for this reason. Give the boat more responsive steering or acceleration and it would be a big deal.
If they took away unlimited torpedoes and the DD's and Crusiers etc had a finite supply of them such as ONE slavo for DD's and perhaps 2 for CA's (just like the IJN Cruisers had historically) the game would be much , much better I think. It woud be more tactical in my opinion and DD's would do what they were designed for; scouting , screening and escorting not hiding like fast submarines spraying 10 to 15 torpedoes (or more) around every minute and a half. ;-) (At Tier five, the Mutsuki can reload torpedoes every 50 seconds ! ) Shimakaze's can launch 15 torpedoes a time and then reload and do it again several times during a battle which is nonsense when ye think about it. I know it's an arcade game but it could have another game mode which is more 'mature' or whatever with finite torpedo supply etc. At times I jokingly re-name the game 'World of Torpedoes' because it seems that during some battles it's an ocean of torpedoes with some water thrown in. ;-)
2 full games and you did not enter a cap once, like I said on your shima one take, in my opinion you are a terrible DD player, you are just out for your own damage, you dont want to take the high risks for your team capping, please just play your BBs where you belong.

Carriers are surface ships. I know that because them being underwater is considered a problem for the crew.
Carriers are not consider surface ships, because they don't usually use on board weapons system.
Rocket aircraft aren’t really anti-DD anymore. Dive bombs are the most effective.
*HE Dive Bombers, just dunk half HP or more if 4+ bombs land
unless you in jap cv then all you can do is spot them and hope its not halland

My favorite DD. It was my first T10. Same captain build also.
You should zoom out a notch while aiming with gearing while shooting at faraway targets. Will land more shots.
Gearing !!!! this was my go to DD when wows was actually fun to play !!!!
Just take a look at how fast those shadows of clouds are moving... the wind speed is insane enough that the Gearing should move with it.

if you want good xp in a dd, you need to cap, which can be annoying as you can get big damaged numbers and be down the list of base xp

AR helps torp load time IMMENSELY. Dazzle im my opinion is a little lackluster in actual practice

If you love torp that much, you should get Halland. You have long range, speedy and fast reload torp.

The Gearings Guns are Horrible. If you're more than (say) 7km away Forget it against a DD. And I Like The Gearing.
