That T-Bird was probably just junked because somebody died, got tired of seeing it or whatever- too complete and decent to not have spent many years being taken care of. Fun fact- about 10 years ago did a 410 motor using a 428 crank, '73 FTE 390 block, some 406 heads that had been worked years before & never used (hardened seats, huge valves, massive ports), Edelbrock intake & carb, TBC headers, a good cam...it was a torque monster in my '72 "Camper Special"
Same thing happened to me here in Phoenix. I found a 1969 Imperial with a 440 all complete. Next day I came with tools and my son and motor and trans were gone. People are always looking for old big blocks. Gladd you were ok!
Thanks Erick, these engines are getting a lot harder to find in these junkyards. So it’s pretty rare to see one, I ended up finding another one on Facebook marketplace a couple weeks later haha
Your life is much more important than any engine or any car! I am an old man by now and many of my friends have died. One was lucky that someone found him in his one man shop unconsious on the ground. He had had a heart attack and only survived because a customer had come in and found him in time. Another guy showed up for work and dropped dead in the body shop in front of many coworkers. He was hardly over fourty years old. Still it is super sad that you put all this effort into removing the engine and then someone else did profit from your hard work.
I found a 68 Mercury 428 PIin the junk yard 45 years ago. Told him I'd take the trans and engine and would be back next week. Came back and someone stole the trans and flywheel. Probably didn't even realize the flywheel was unique to a 428PI. Got the engine though.
Gotta be safe out there, brother! We all get lost in our work sometimes and forget to hydrate, eat, or even take a small break. You have your health, don't worry about the 428!
I was given one just like it on the 80's. You could hardly find gas that wouldn't knock like a bastard then. I had to blend my own fuel for my Cuda 340!
Real Bumber but, health b4 hobbies. I hope you find another 428! I know they don't grow on tree's & at least where I am @, They are hard to find! I WANT ANOTHER 1973 Chevrolet S.B.400 with a 4.125 bore!!!!
Glad you are ok Omar. Another 428 will find you for sure. Can't tell you how many deals have slipped through my fingers due to bad luck over the years. Take a breathers and be thankful for what you have. Love your work my friend. I find your videos inspiring.
Damn Omar thats a bummer! I’ve had heat exhaustion once and just passed out. Didn’t have same symptoms as you did. You had a good find there as well. Did the guy take the C6 as well?
Did I tell you I found a 428 fe engine at a pick a part yard almost all the way removed for me!? All I had to do was cut ONE transmission bolt and Voila!! I'm 428 cubic inches happier 😉 *on a serious note I'm glad you're ok brother. There will be more, no te preocupes carnal 🤜
Hey man nice try on the 428. Just a suggestion next time you do something like that see if you can get two more buddies to help you. One guy on the bottom of the engine working, one guy on top working and one guy feeding tools. It'll be out in an hr.
It could have been so much worse. The important thing here is you live to work on the hobby you love another day. Next time hydrate! I enjoy your channel. It takes me back to a different time when priorities were different.
Gotta be careful after in the heat I've had heat exhaustion a couple times And it gets easier every time with heat exhaustion. So sorry you weren't able to get that 428 that was a find.
Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!!! (BABBVEN LAWS AND TEBBVEN ORDERS)!!!!!!!!
Theres a good chance it was not a 428. It looked like fresh paint on the motor and someone probably kept the 428 and installed a 390 or maybe even a 360. I found a 428 CJ in a guys garage once. He was selling as 390. I opened my big mouth and told him it was a 428. When i got back with my truck to pick it up the guy already sold the motor to a speed shop. His wife stood at the front door laughing at me as i drove away.
I’m glad you’re alright man! I’ve been there before and not in the extreme heat. It sneaks up on you. Mind you I’ve worked 8 hours a day in house attics in Texas heat replacing old HVAC ductwork, and it never happened during those 140 degree days!!
Your Pull-a-Part salvage yard looks cleaner and more organized than our local ones that have parts scattered everywhere! Sorry, you lost the 428 after all the hard work in the heat!
I’m glad you are doing well. Kind of bull shit someone was able to steal that engine from you. I understand it’s first come first served but you were technically the first there and had done all the work the previous day. They should change their policy on that.
Yes you have to stay hydrated the same thing happened to me I was on the job site and I got very dizzy you have to drink lots of water I mean lots of water and some occasional Gatorades glad you're alright
Your health comes first. But it sucks that LKQ did not hold it, especially since you were trying to get it out and you had to leave by ambulance. You would think they would have given a chance to finish getting it, or at least let you leave a down payment to hold it.
Ive got to be honest with you. Had I found that 428 Thunderbird, I would probably have bought it and restored that car itself. Many people wouldn't just because it's a four door. But from what I see here, I think I would have just bought the whole car and restored it the way it is. That's a beautiful old car, with a great highly sought after motor. (At least they used to be back in the day) ... These T-Birds were nice vehicles. Suicide doors, comfy-roomy interior, and a hot, and powerful engine. What more does anyone really need? Love it! John PS. Anytime you're working outside in the heat, its important to drink plenty of water, and take regular breaks. Your preconceived idea of being there for "2 or 3 hours" is most likely what got you into trouble. Next time, dedicate the entire day for a bug project on a hot day. I mean unless there was some reason to rush, what difference did it make if it took you 2 hours or say 6 hours with breaks taking your time? Just saying.
Hi John, I would have loved to buy the whole car but here in California I’m unable to buy it because the junkyard would be considered a dealership. But if I ever see one for a good price I’m buying it!!
Glad you are well now. Your health comes first, another 428 will surface that's meant for you to have. Can you tell me where I can find the music used in this video? Stay safe.
That is a bummer mate. Dodgy set up, you did most of the work for the guy. I would want to negotiate a price and seal a deal and know it was mine, before I break out the tools. Imagine busting your arse, getting it out with the crane, fronting up to the counter and the dude goes, that will be $5000 thanks mate! What do you do then? Put it back in?🤣
So glad your ok, I know the heat here in California is brutal sometimes. The 428 is not worth your life. There will be another one out there for you. Good luck with the 68 Mustang! I hope you put a FE in her. Nothing like a big block Mustang!
Hey bud glad you're okay you getting a hurry and we forget sometimes but I know what I would have done if I was you after you finally found that big old big block I would have marched right into the office and pay for it before I did anything else but we live and we learn okay well be safe and good luck with your builds
I have experienced heat exhaustion here in Australia. Out in the mine sites it's common to see people wearing water container back packs. Also a mate here lived in Cal for years and told us of his adventures in the pick a part places. Great to see organised car yards like that.
Next time bring a gallon of water and another gallon of water what I do is I poor 1 / over my head it helps a lot I know what it's like working in the Sun you have to stay hydrated

So sorry for the loss bro. Next have a friend ready to call and tag in to finish the job.

should have bought the whole car if you could have
I’m really sorry that is a bummer .I am just glad you are ok that way you will be able to find another one.

Wow that sucks. Glad you were ok though.
Appreciate it!
I love your videos man keep up the good work I love old Ford cars I have a 428 Super Cobra Jet and I got it built and I have a 427 Ford Cobra
Appreciate it! You got some of the best stuff ford made
Did not see that coming! Take care of yourself!
Haha definitely man
I’m happy that you’re doing OK wondering if it’s possible that you can help me getting that brake booster from that Thunderbird
I found a 68 Mercury 428 PIin the junk yard 45 years ago. Told him I'd take the trans and engine and would be back next week. Came back and someone stole the trans and flywheel. Probably didn't even realize the flywheel was unique to a 428PI. Got the engine though.
Wow very cool. Yes 428 is externally balanced so the flywheel matters when choosing one. Don’t see much FE stuff at junkyards though in general
Gotta be safe out there, brother! We all get lost in our work sometimes and forget to hydrate, eat, or even take a small break. You have your health, don't worry about the 428!

Thankfully I have 2 C6s but can’t pass one up when I see one. They are getting harder to find as well
Such a shame you missed out :( but Health before anything :)
Yeah, I will find another!

I definitely learned my lesson. Problem is most people my age don’t go into junkyards anymore haha
Damn Brother...By now you know.."Electrolytes" to the max. No worries your 428 FE is out there somewhere!
Yup now i bring water with electrolyte supplements everywhere!

nice yard, our local yard is on dirt and gravel...
Stay safe brother.
That happened to me. Heat stroke when I was getting a 302 for my son’s mustang. I drove myself to the hospital greasy hands and all
Haha yup I was full of dirt. it was a crazy day for me, now I make sure to try and bring a friend

I don't think I would be leaving those wood things under there. Doesn't look safe either..
Take that whole car man. I’ve never seen suicide doors on a Thunderbird.
Should of been yours Omar you had the lifting plate on it.
Lol yeah. I lost my engine plate too, just sucks all around. Oh well
