Sigma is going to have to up their game on the AF motors. Your critique of the continuous auto focus matches up with what everyone trying these L-mount lenses has said.
So I picked this lens up the other day to use with my S1 and I almost 100% believe I'll be returning it. It doesn't matter how well the photos look if it can barely ever hit focus even at "normal" f-stops. I expect issues below 2.0 sometimes, but at 2.8 and above there's not excuse for it. I have a big shoot tomorrow and that'll be it's first real-world test for what I need it for, but right now I don't think it's gonna' work at all for it. If you don't have perfect lighting, this thing can't focus at all.
I'd like that review too, but right now I can't get the Sigma here in Finland. However, I should get one for a review once the Finnish importer gets another shipment of lenses.

Thx Mate , very nice review Got same lens on my S1 , love the IQ , but I’m very disappointed about Manual focus , weird coz seems “ linear” setting is not working for me , I tried different degree setting but nothing really changed and the focus ring still very slow . specially in closeup focus , Can U confirm that
@@dfj555 I gave my opinion. I have no preference. Pick the focal length you like, both lenses are excellent. Besides, I'm not even sure what he means by "best" or what and how he shoots. Lens preference is personal and I would not choose either lens for my photography, because I don't need F1.2 or F1.4 and both lenses are huge and heavy.
@@mattisulanto I blame that the DFD only works for Panasonic native lens and not any of Sigma lenses. I can't wait for a full frame Foveon L-mount from Sigma to pair with this lens!
Yeah I own the sony e mount version and the focus is very accurate, and kept up with a toddler running around keeping focus at 1.2 on the eye. But id say that's pushing its autofocus limits there. For sony shooters if you shooting anything moving briskly I'd try the new gm. For slower moving subjects I've had no issues
@@mattisulanto Hey Matti, urgent question for you. When you connect S1R to PC what read/write speed do you have? I used ATTO disk benchmark (its free). On S1 speed is 10x-20x faster! Can you please check on your camera if you have XQD? (literally where question came from - I bought CFExpress and on S1 speed is much faster even than declared, 1700Mb easily, but on S1R it 60mb write max (with ATTO)).
@@rendermanpro Interesting you should ask/comment on this. I just bought the S1R this week and I haven't had the time to get a CFexpress yet but only use on of my UHS-II SD cards. If I transfer the files using my USB 3.0 card reader I get far higher speeds than I do over the USB - C connection when connecting the camera straight to the computer. My computer is just newly built and I have full speed USB - C connection so it's not the connection in the computer that limits the speed.
@@rendermanpro Good thought. I know it's not the internal port, it's high end high speed custom built computer by my self. It could be the cable though now that you mention it. Will try with a different one made for external SSD and see what happens.

I'm afraid Sigma is not that interested, because L-mount volumes are probably relatively low compared to Sony E-mount.

Wow, I did not experience anything that bad and my single AF hit rate was really good. Thanks for sharing.
Did you rerurn it?
Great review..would love to see a review on the new sigma 100-400mm for L mount and E mount.. Preferably on the S1R

When I see the Sigma 35mm F1.2, I understand why I love the m43 cameras, and if I wont something more, then I go for Fujifilm GFX.
Hello, Is it possible to put this(Sigma 35mm 1.2) on Moza aircross 2 with Sony Full frame cameras. Thanks
So in recent video you told about Dream Lens, looks like that is close to it.
Kind of, but the Sigma is way too big and heavy.
plz compare it with viogtlander 35mm f1.2 II
Maybe in the future, if I can get both lenses.
Thx Mate , very nice review

Thanks! I have already returned the lens and can't confirm it at the moment. It seemed to work just fine when I tested the lens, though.
I have the same problem on the S1H sadly. I’ve been looking for a fix for weeks.
@@darwinschulze8953 Are you guys still using the Sigma 35mm f1.2 on your S1H? Is the manual focus still bad? Cheers
What is the best sigma art 35 f1.2 or sigma art 40 f1.4 ?
Both are very good. Pick the one you like.

This Sigma lens performs very well in AF on Sony A7iii, Panasonic needs some improvement
Yeah, That's what I hear.. You can also think that Sigma needs improvements😀

"On another level compared to 1.4"... sure on another level, $650 vs $1500 :)
Another level in every way😀

Please, put it on the table next to the 15mm Panasonic micro 4/3 lens for size comparison. Just for fun :)
