- The documentary catpures the life of the last Kyrgyz nomads of the Afghan Pamir. Imprisoned between three borders, they have experienced famine, exile, war and persecution. The only place where they have found security and peace is the hidden depths of Central Asia. Despite the hardships and extremely inhospitable terrain, these people have managed to survive and maintain their traditional way of life against all odds.

I cannot imagine how women manage to live in these harsh conditions. Great respect to them.
@bluespangle" "I cannot imagine how women..." Did you miss something "one-third" of women die in childbirth". That's why women are so expensive, that is why the price is 100 sheep for a bride.
PS: I don't feel sorry for these people living the way they do. These people were very happy living the way they have for generations.
By the way, these people were allowed to return to their way of life, and that's a Blessing. The North American Indians were removed "forcibly" to live on reservations and suffer permanently the kind of suffering these people were having in the short time the "social experiment" was in force.
@@fritzsmith3296also many full bloodeds don't live on the rez
@@fritzsmith3296I don't believe that 2/3rds of women die in childbirth. If they do, something is definitely wrong and their ancestors obviously didnt have that problem. If it's TRUE, they've probably ALL died out by now.

Womans have to know everything what we have done for woman's better life .Who , on the West, have to live and fight every day ? Have womans heavy life ? You , Western Womans , Feminists , you can see on examples how feminism and equal rights looks like in practice .
Do you really want to this equal.rights in dutys?
I remember life like this on my grandparents farm in the 1960s . No electricity, no running water . This was in the Bosnian mountains.
A very hard life . But this is way harder .
I come from the Amish; no electricity, etc...we lived very well. I am Conservative Mennonite now and its a great life❤
That’s a false analogy
@opybrook7766 you realise it's not just a lack of electricity here? 4500 meters, permanent cold, often freezing, no heat, no proper shelter, no food other than sheep, no vegetation, no infrastructure, no nothing.
Wow. This was amazing. I loved the conversations between the men when they were arguing about watching herds with machines, that made me smile.
For those wondering when this film was made, it came out in 2012 with the title "Prisonniers de l'Himalaya" (Prisoners of the Himalayas).
Do you know where they are now?
I'm curious too .....
Living in America, “the people who sell opium are demons,” hit my soul hard. Hundreds of thousands of miles away from Wali and his family, my heart understands his. May God bless him and keep his family safe and well. It’s so sad to know what he fighting, and how hopeless he must feel. 😢

We have a village called Ulupamir(Great Pamir) in Van province of Turkey. They are relatives of Kyrgyz people in Turkey.
Those kirghiz in turkey are the immigrant from the pamir of Afghanistan. Many of them have be in turkey but many of them are still in Afghanistan.

How life is intended to be. No iPhone nor PS5...just good plain pastural, nomadic lifestyle. Respect for elders and respect for all around
Why respect for elders? People should respect everybody equally, not just elders
Respect and power to the kyrgyz women ❤❤

This is the first time I hear Kyrgyz (Kirghiz) speak Farsi/ Dari among themselves. The ones I met in China spoke Kirghiz which was remarkably close to Kazakh.
Thank you to the whole team of producer for this insightful documentary.
Life was hard, simple and challenging; however everyone looks healthier in body, mind and spirit comparing to the people in many western countries - materialistic way of life, drug, fashion, celebrity culture, mundane talk shows, magazines and newspapers on fame, wealth, football, Red Bull, formula 1....
Material wealth does not bring true happiness. People who can endure difficulties in life such as cold, scarcity of food, simple living ...will be able to survive in next life.
Evidently not too healthy. One man said his dsughyrts have been sick a while and women and children die at a high rate. Likely it's due to scarcity of food.
I agree that we are not in a good state. Not sure one could call theirs better whoever. You can be both virtuous and capable of flourishing, indeed they are causal. I don't think high child morality or living in a tent make morality, faith, works and tradition do.
They are not happy. They are enslaved to opium, the death rate is very high, are enslaved to their culture even if that means their downfall. They need Jesus to set them free and so does the western world.
Very Good Hearted
Thank you!
Thats why they didn't pick the older brother to be the Chief. Because he is addicted to drugs.

It's heartbreaking to see the poor men in such terrible conditions they are trapped in the harsh nightmare of addiction to opioid poison it's such a shame but I do sympathise with them a great deal !
Very good information for the whole world know that these tribe exist.
They must be enjoying their tribe so well, that they chose to be away from the modern community. With their values & culture for many years embedded to their mindset, it would be very difficult to change it - to live with the modern community. Only formal classroom education during their formative years can actually give them the mindset to accept change.
Great video-info. Thank you for sharing. I am sad for their flight as a tribe - after all; poverty is a choice.
Thank you for your Excellent video. I feel bad for that opinion addict. From London, England.
Thank you so much for watching!
One more sad thought - is there anywhere too remote in this for the opioid epidemic to reach?
It's not a problem to the East due to harsh law enforcement, not there now either as the Taliban have suppression of it as a primary aim and don't take half-measures.
Afghanistan is just close by. They are the leading producers of poppies for opium.
It was painful to watch so much hardship and grief (through their addiction) - i wish them well x
Such a beautiful culture, government must protect this people
what goverment? Afgan goverment?
Full of beauty be it ups and downs in life, the Kyrgyz people are very dedicated and enjoy a solid and concrete bodage within their tribal life style, in simplicity they are a sweet pack of people who should be adored with respect.
Very tough life.
Tough life 😢
Just viewed a video about poverty in the USA...most of it caused by drugs additiction....in the old community of this Kyrgyz people it seems to be the same......
60% of people on welfare are single mothers. So I'd say divorce or lack of marriage is the leading cause of poverty. Drug addicts and alcoholics make up most of the homeless population ( except that's changing now, many homeless are old people and the working homeless due to immigration driving up housing costs. Among other things.)
Deaths of despair they call them. That said these nomads have children, so the future, even such a harsh one is ensured, this is not the case in developed countries, we are facing the probable end unless we throw off the comfy blankets of decadence and self-conceit.
Whatever the faith brandished around as the one and only....piff ...just thank the Creator, send out love to Gia, the plants, animals, trees, rocks, humanity and live in a caring sharing loving way... Give and help others to teach peace, love and happiness... blessings darlings from Granny Linda in OZ........

Their sheep/wife trading under these circumstances is their obvious downfall.

I think they're Muslims and marrying a woman requires a dowry ( which is negotiable between the two, parties), but most people stick to tradition even if it's making their life miserable. I understand that the dowry is -to a certain extent - a way to transfer wealth among the tribe but still they should adapt to the current circumstances.
@@WILDSPIRIT-nw5ip the tradition is fine. The man said they used to trade for s couple of sheep or yak. Plus they have an opium problem. But I agree with the poster, the 100 sheep thing is their downfall and alot are being traded for opium.
@@WILDSPIRIT-nw5ipoh yeah, and for muslims the dowry is for the woman if they divorce.
Or it's the opium...
There was one small mistake in the translation; in the game with a goat, the prize is not - cigarettes, but the goat. The winning team eats the goat.
That Opium seller is a good salesman. He said, ''Opium is good for you. That's your only medicine''
Yeah, I can see how a small community like that would need 2 huge bags of opium over 1 year. 🙄
He's a liar. He traps men with free samples to get them hooked, then drains away the wealth of many families, for himself, from greed. Great salesman indeed. Definitely typical.
I saw this same kind of documentary 4 years ago? It is really up to them; everyone knew they deserved "help", and perhaps the best way of helping if they don't want to go back to Kyrgiztan is helicopter drops of supplementary food for the herds. The Kuchii are an insular group with more connection into Pakistan, but have a far richer area for grazing as they migrate north-south instead of east-west. This is the other tribe they would have most in common with as far as hardship or empathy, but the Kuchii have much more Pamiri features and bloodlines than an isolated Waki tribe. Personally I think the Waki need to stop seeing themselves as a separate group of Kyrgiz and start seeing themselves more as a part of the family of man. I don't think anyone is going to be in a hurry to take over their corridor grazing lands if they make an exit for awhile.
Helicopter drops of food is an excellent idea. There are so much money and food in the modern world the only hurdle in being able to help these peoples IS THE EXCESSIVE GREED OF SOME POLITICIANS!
So happy I'm sober
I might have to get me a kyrgyz hat
They don’t have power but I saw a tv in there stuff around 18:30 minutes
❤😮🙏❤️😊❤️
Like many of us, we would love to keep hold of our culture and traditions, so i can see how even outside help may be rejected by these people... they have managed for so long, forever.... their lifestyle and ways are precious and finely balanced and grounded in history.... however, among other evils, such as war and the persecution that they have endured, the introduction of opiates is just pure evil....look how it devastating them.... typical approach to destroying us all.... 😢 I despair...
What do you suggest poppy farmers do for a living?
Fentynal brought in by the cartels has replaced heroin in North America
Through all human history several cultures and societies have collapsed and no longer exist. It's normal.
Blame Afghanistan for that. Biggest grower of poppies in the world. Farmers get more for it than growing veggies. Most Afghans are addicts.

After watching this video for 22 minutes, there's no doubt these people are being instructed by the video makers to "pump up the drama".
Ordinary stuff these people been doing for hundreds of years suddenly becomes a life-threatening situation which must be discussed and explained, endlessly.
That's when I decided this video is just a lot of "drama" that was never there until Slice Full Doc came on the scene.
That kind of manipulation of my emotions is evil! My sorrow goes out to these folks that they were being used for the "gains" the video makers get while making this video.
The video makers gains are based on lies and exaggerations. That's the real sorrow.
By the way. Somewhere in past lives, I was living their way of life. These people have a bond between each other which is much much greater any pain or suffering they get along the way. There bonds are their strong medicine to soothe any-thing you guys call "hardships".
Stop being dramatic. They might know what's going on, but obviously the visitor doesn't and of course they have to explain. I dont see any emotional drama except from you. Good grief.
@@deborahdean8867 well you're pretty dramatic 😆
This life is too hard on every one of the poor women.
This life has broken the men and they need to consider change for the sake of their children.
Child birth mortality rate at 1/3 !
Mother's dead after the first birth !
Come on !
They need modern health care modern medicine how can a father watch his children writhing in pain what about dental health !
Those poor sheep getting burned like that.
Tragic .
I feel sad for the boys 😢😢
What about girls ..they suffer more during pregnancy periods .. both people are suffering.
It is perhaps bad for them but for 1/3 of women it is worse, and the survival of the people is threatened.
That said one wonders how they have survived till now if such issues are so persistent. The age of the nomads seems young, which is not the case in many countries, let alone nomadic communities. The social institutions seem to be functioning, ensuring the survival of the group even in very harsh conditions.
Many people are or have lost their identity, culture or homeland. Gods promise is for righteous people to be united in love and to live in peace under his government (kingdom) with his son Jesus Christ as ruler (king). its ridiculous what parents have to give for their daughters in those hard times, they should care more for each other
Life will not get easier in Turkey, as the hardship they face is drug addiction. Surely, with access to more drugs, and their being more expensive, their problems will grow greater.

Nomads who want to cling to their lives should be encouraged, not transformed into something they don’t want to be.
What Christianity has to do with this escapes me totally (see other comments).
It is not excluded that Christian nomads existed at the time of the Aksumite kings (early christianity) in the eastern African Sahel, although today they tend to be Muslim.
Nomads being Christian or not did not prevent states to try to sedentarize them at all cost. Yet real nomads do not care about state boundaries and are very protective of their way of life and their customs.
Have you tried catching and keeping a wild bird? Eventually, it might languish and die in its “golden, modern” cage. That’s why nomads always try to break free. Maybe these nomads’ lifestyle is more “modern” than the most modern of all amenities you can offer them.
I don’t want to live like a nomad, but for sure nomads have one thing or two to teach us… irrespective of their religion or non-religion.
They don't look like prisoners to me. They look like they’re vibing.
Remind me not to vibe with you.
They Hurt the animals its awful
Okay, so if they don't brand the sheep and someone steals it or it wonders off into someone else's herd, how will you identify it? Especially if you have hundreds of sheep? A lot of sheep look very similar to one another
Their old fashioned ways cause them to a/buse the animals . If the women and children can’t get proper medical care , its much worse for their animals
@@supernova7848branding isn't cruel. It's less painful than a tattoo that people love to get. The women and children ( and men) don't die of abuse but of bad health.
You know they eat them right. You know halal isn't exactly a fast or painless method right.
Placenta previa kills
How much do 5hey get fo4 allowing cams in ?
How is it some of the boys and girls are rather blonde haired and much lighter skinned?
Could be either genetic diversity/mutation or some kind of deficiency. The sister/bride had jaw deformity, also could go either way. Reddish hair can be low iron.
With all due respect, I must ask how even the fortunate can get 100 sheep for a marriage? It was said that it was so much less. Who decided such a thing?
If so few can do it, reel-back the standard.
This is what I thought...BUT, I will say I come from the West where traditions are not so rigid, and now live in the Middle East where custom/traditions can be very strong. It is difficult to go against established customs and if you do you risk being treated as an outcast. Maybe the bride price may be high because there are less women??
The women don’t even have a say in who they marry, the girl said “l have no opinion “
Girls are exchanged for animals, so there will be older men who see girls as animals, not as people. In order for this culture to be preserved, they have to sell their daughters at a high price. I could have sworn that these people would also hate prostitutes.
It is a clan structure, the head of the clan as shown will act within his responsibilities as patriarch. Thus he will use the herd of the clan to buy a wife for those best able to contribute by having children. If they didn't have such social institutions they would not be able to survive in such conditions.
How come these super isolated Kyrghiz speak Persian. I can recognize many Persian words in their language (brother, horse, numerals): that can't be kyrghiz
Are they not ethnic Turks…? I can understand them a little bit when they speak their own language…
They are kirghiz however the language of Afghanistan is farsi so men speak farsi to communicate with strangers and women speak kirghiz.

Branding animals with a hot iron is cruel. My grandparents did this as well. I became a vegetarian because I reject this lifestyle.
It's not that bad at all. No worse than a tattoo. You're lucky you live in a land of plenty where you have more food variety than most anyone in the past. Once they ban gas and oil , that'll shrink down alot unless americans start gardening. But the government is outlawing that slowly too.

They are Muslims? It is forbidden to exchange women as wives, swapping one woman for another, according to our village customs from the distant past. the Sheihk annulled the contracts of the two exchanged women, obliging their husbands to remarry them and provide their wives with their rightful dowry, even if they had children.
The are central Asian nomads, tradition and survival trump intellectualism and doctrinal nonsense. If I recall similar complaints were made when Turks first invaded the settled Muslims. Perhaps it they knew they would care.
People don't follow their religious books exclusively, or else we'd have Muslims in Dearborn Michigan marrying nine year old girls (as Mohammad did ) and killing their neighbors for being infidels as proscribed by the Quran.
I think china would gladly take them in and take care of them. There are Kyrgyz in china.
