Darkstar One Switch Review

- Space is the final frontier. Also, a frontier that doesn’t have nearly enough game about it when it comes to being a privateer. Thankfully, Switch owners have been lucky to get No Man’s Sky and Rebel Galaxy: Outlaw to fill that black hole of space trading and swashbuckling they so desire, and this game reviewer has spent hundreds of hours exploring the vast galaxies on handheld. With that said, is there room for another game to try to take your attention to the stars? Coming out of the warp gate is Darkstar One, an open galaxy space trading and combat sim with the DNA of X Gold and Elite Dangerous. What’s it Like? Prime the warp drive, prepare the shields, and hold on tight as we review Darkstar One for Nintendo Switch.

Okay, this looks amazing. I'd never even heard of Darkstar One, but I love NMS (and put a ton of hours into Rebel Galaxy Outlaw), so yeahhhh... definitely grabbing this. Thank you so much for bringing it to my attention!
No worries! It has dated a little, but think more Rebel Galaxy Outlaw with a really cool story and fantastic space combat.
@@whatsitlikeau Hey, nothing wrong with being a bit dated, lol. Sounds like a lot of fun. Thanks again for the review.
No worries, let me know what you think!
@@whatsitlikeau Hey, just wanted to say thanks again for recommending Darkstar One. I've been playing on and off today and am really enjoying it so far. You were right about it giving "Rebel Galaxy Outlaw" vibes. I enjoyed that game, and am really glad to see another in the same vein on Switch. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
Its a German Game of a Studio that died thats why.. didnt really get Out of Germany Back then
Great review! I loved DS One back in the days and I´m sure it will be awesome on Switch too 🚀
Not much has changed, and I think that's a good thing. Controls were really well done on Switch with speed matching and UI. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
I played this back on Xbox and really enjoyed it. I’ve been playing on Switch this evening and it’s great being back in this galaxy once again. Definitely worth checking out.
I missed it the first time around but grew up on Privateer, Xwing, and X. This game feels like a more action narrative focus with some tight combat. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
How do you find the Switch version compares to back in the day?
@@whatsitlikeau Much smoother for starters. It’s nice to go back to these older games. But after playing the likes of Everspace 2, Starfield and No. Man’s Sky, the controls take some getting used to. And I never completed it the first time round, so I’m looking forward to exploring Darkstar One properly this time.
@StevesgamingWorld yeah it took some adjusting for me coming from No Mans Sky. I won't spoil anything but hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Kotor is an excellent comparison; good insight.
Thank you. I think a lot of people may dismiss the game due to the graphics engine, but those who don't will have a lot of fun!
Whats the FPS?
You did mention it!
Hahaha! Yeah it's very smooth in both docked and handheld. I don't have the tools for an exact measurement, but it seems to be sitting around the 60 FPS mark
How ist the Performance?
Liquid smooth at around 60 Frames
@@whatsitlikeau oh Respekt 😁
This was not what I was expecting in my feed. Played the hell out of this game when it released originally. Makes me want to find my install CD. I remember it being a tad repetitive, though.
I think the gameplay loop would bore if the combat wasn't so satisfying!
This looks quite nice 2 me.
Very fun and fluid combat if you don't mind the old school graphics!
Thats Looks Like colony wars from PS1 😮👍
I never played that back in the day. Any good?
Colony wars 1 and 2 was a nice space Shooter in PS1 Timeline :) but maybe Not good enought , CW3 was Not so good Like 1 and 2 . Theyre never Release more Colony Wars titles ;/
Darkstar One is not like Elite Dangerous or Tie Fighter. It is basically like Freelancer, with a single ship.
Good comparison. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Better than NMS? 🚀
Not quite in the sense of freedom, but it has a much stronger narrative that drives it forward. I think it's safe to say that games like Darkstar One paved the way for newer games like No Mans Sky.
