a snapping turtle will bite down on anything and hang on to it. great videos this was my dads favorite movie, and mine also.
The church across the street from the store was built for the movie! It was later destroyed. My dad and mom walked through it right after it was built and right before they started filming. My dad worked for the mosquito abatement and watched most of the filming from a distance. I grew up down the street from where the prison scenes were filmed. I remember what it looked like before they built that park and school! I learned how to play tennis in that park! You brought back a lot of old memories showing the entrance to the prison. That totally brought me a blast from the past when you showed that! That’s how I remember it before that whole area was developed! My dad said the people that owned it were old and that the property was worth more to sell than to keep it his cattle ranch.
Progress sometime sucks!
What is the location of the store? We want to add it to our trip to California
The church was there before the movie. I lived down the road from it. It was on Roberts Island approx. 2 miles from our ranch.
Roberts Island outside of Stockton.

An all-time favorite film of mine. It was a favorite of my Dad's and like him, my brother and I became instantly fond of it and can nearly recite the entire dialogue front to back. Interesting coupla history hunting, enjoyed the dusty images and similarly framed shots. Thank you.
Sidenote, a snapping turtle will indeed latch on to anything close to it's mouth. Very strong jaw muscles, not to be messed with. Can be found in most states around water. Although only a prop in the film, definitely could easily be fetched with a stick while its death throws, although often chomping the stick right off. Hence Luke's statement of; "...deader n'hell but won't let go!"
Such a great film. Thanks again for the history hunting.
Never get tired watching cool hand luke one of my top films
The "What we got here" speech will always be famous, not just from this movie, but also the actual intro to Guns N' Roses epic "Civil War."
Very cool as I did not know this fact! Sure enough! I checked and there it was!!!
Back when I was a teenager and before I had seen Cool Hand Luke I thought the words had been spoken by a woman for the song. 😳
Another entertaining episode. Those old buildings are so beautiful, even in their state of natural decay. Well done Jeff and Sarah 👍🏻
"Saw Cool Hand Luke as a child, and as an adult. It was hard to watch. Thank you for showing the varied landscape of CA.
I love these film location videos, specially if it´s an old movie.
Enjoyed the video of Cool Hand Luke. Probably my all time iconic movie.
Best line in the movie." Calling it your job don't make it right boss."
According to Joy Harmon, when the car wash part was filmed, the male actors were not on the scene. It was only her and the production crew.
That makes sense because you would be deliberately getting your line wrong, so you would have to do the scene again LOL.🇬🇧
I could never forget this movie as it's stuck inside my young mind since the day I watched it 59 years ago. I felt so bad when Paul Newman was shot. This is an iconic movie which I will never be tired of watching again & again.
Love it and the movie. I knew that parts of the movie had been filmed in Stockton, but didn't realize how much of it had been.
Such great reasearch, filming and editting! Definately a top movie and another great Episode from History Hunters!
Wonderful! Nice to hear, Sassy! Glad you enjoyed it! It took a lot of work and research for these past two episodes!

COOL !!
I find this interesting. In another decade even more of these things will have disappeared. It's good you filmed them before they do disappear.
Hey Jeff just thought of another movie that was shot in California. How about finding the shoot locations of the movie Duel by Steven Spielberg. That was a cool thriller movie!👍😃
Never even heard of it, crazy. I'll check it out. Thanks
I saw that movie, was very intense with the big truck.
I think it is great that Paul Newman's products like salad dressing etc., donates every single penny to charity! Good actor and great guy! Enjoyed the video's!
The scenes at the Holt train station where Cool Hand Luke were filmed, scenes were also filmed for the TV pilot “Then Came Bronson” in 1969. Fantastic video series.
Thank you for this. One of my favorite movies. It's exciting to see the locations and reliving the scenes but also very sad realizing all those actors are gone.
Excellent Narration and inserts of the Movie. I am 66 years old and remember the Movie very well. A job very well done. Thank you for the hard work and great information. I am looking forward to watching more of you videos. Roy O.
Thank you beloved friends, South Africa.
I’ve been trying to find the exact location for the prison camp for years. Beautiful work!
I believe it's Dentoni Park north Stockton
the egg eating scene is EPIC and to a lesser degree the hole digging scene where boss gets mad over all the dirt from the hole laying around...
Jeff, I wanted to offer my condolences for you loss. I lost my mother when I was 24. My prayers are with you and your family.
Thank you sir. You lost your mama at a young age, which is sad to hear. Again, thanks my friend!
I'm very sorry to hear about your mom. Thank you for the videos you make.
I appreciate that. Thank you also for watching and subscribing!
LOL!
Jeff: After visiting location, does it make you want to watch it?
Sarah: Nope.
Me: Yes and did enjoy watching it after your part 1 video. It was my first time watching it.🙂
Glad you enjoyed both our videos and the movie itself!!!
Yep thats what i would see :)
I love watching your shows Jeff...I wish Sarah would show more enthusiasm when you ask her about seeing the movies...
Great shows!...
Fantastic ...more movie locations please...As well as Joy Harmon, Lou Antonio and Anthony Zerbe are still with us...
Breathtaking scene with the waterside. These movies are a testament to their time. Amazing, I'm so envious! Thank you and God Bless🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!! God Bless you too!
Cool Hand Luke is one of my favorite movies. My mom introduced me to it back in the late 80’s when we watched it on Superstation WTBS. She was a huge Paul Newman fan. I really did think they’d shot it in the South. This was fascinating to watch.
Most Awesome Guys & Girls👍👍👍
Awsum Part 2 👍🏻🤠🇺🇸
First of all: Great Part 2 and great overall Episode. Love it as always. Interesting and atmospheric :) And secondly: You Guys totally made my Day. So cool to hear my playing on someone elses Video. Really... what a cool Surprise. This is a Premiere and also an Honour for me to appear on your great Channel. Awesome! Feels good and totally fits the Vibe of the Scenes. So... thanks alot for using my Tune. So much appreciated. When i have some new Stuff i´ll be glad to share it with you again. Love you Guys! Wish you a happy Sunday. I´ll stay tuned for more HH Videos! Cheers :))
Thanks so much for your offer of music! I felt it was perfect for this episode! Absolutely perfect! Thanks very much sir for your gift!
It was perfect background soundtrack, good work
This guy does his homework. He has stills from the movie, comparison shots to prove the location, lots of anecdotal info and a calm, professional demeanor. I enjoy the heck out of his posts. Excellent job, yet again.
Hi, thanks! This is Jeff, "that guy." I try to be as thorough as I can to make it accurate and compelling. Too many people get on UA-cam with no clue what they are talking about! Thanks, TL. By the way, one of my high school principals was named TL so that was the first thing I thought of! We appreciate the views and the comments!
back enjoying part two thank you Jeff & Sarah x
Although some of the actual locations were difficult for you to pinpoint, both videos, well done! I saw Cool Hand Luke with my husband when it was first released. I consider it more of a "man's" movie, however, like most women of the time, I was obsessed with Paul Newman but have seen it only that one time. Your presentation has made me want to see it again! Thank You
Brilliant take on a great film,.....and thumbs up for the Lucille part jeff, damn things are blocking the scenery 😂😂👌👌 keep up the great work🙂👍
It's beautiful classics hollywood movie,I.love classics western classics movie and all great classics actors, thank you very much for another lovely video.
Glad you enjoyed it, Magid!!!!
@@jbenziggy I really appreciate it Mr Jeff and I'm thankful to know you such a nice and sympathetic person, you are the western empire,,,
Thanks I have lived out here my whole life this is the most interesting stuff I've ever seen
The location where Paul Newman is sitting on the back of a truck 22:09 looks like the area north of Farmington on either Escalon-Bellota Rd or on Waverly Rd.
Loved part 2 was amazing that you found so much of where they filmed. Will always be my favourite movie and thankyou for taking the time yet again to bring it to us :) Thankyou Jeff and Sarah
Why on earth wouldn't Sarah want to watch a great movie like Cool Hand Luke? 🤔
Then she would want to see "Shane"
Another good one you guys. Remember the movie "The Moonshine War"? Not a particularly great movie but it was shot near Jenny Lind. The main set was on Milton Rd. I believe.
Lived in Jenny Lind my house was on Milton road and didn't know that. Thankx.
Thank you Jeff, I have just bought this film as I have never seen it . Great video, am looking forward to watching the movie.
Jeff, WOW, so much research done...👏 It is amazing but typical how such iconic, filming sites are left to the ages and the elements. ☀️🌈 🤔
My favorite movie! Thanks for showing us the sites, especially the country store. I can't believe it's been allowed to decay like that. As of December 2023, CHL cast members Anthony Zerbe, Lou Antonio, Joe Don Baker, Joy Harmon, and Kim Kahana are still alive.
Thanks Sarah and Jeff for sharing another wonderful video. Jeff, I appreciate all your efforts in trying to bring to us, as much as possible, every place the filming took place or, wherever an actual event took place.
I've never seen Cool Hand Luke but, I have crisscrossed all over that Tract of land and never knew it's history. Been fishing in those sloughs for Catfish many times.
Thanks for educating me and others, about what's in our "backyards".
Stan
I have always loved this movie i watched it with my father many times what great memories ❤
Just caught on to your freaking awesome historical LOCAL videos. There used to be mokelumne village with a post office behind Mondavi winery but its been tore down
Awesome video, watching the movie as I'm watching this. Several cast members are still alive as of 2023, including Joy Harmon, the beautiful blonde, Lou Antonio aka Kokohead, Joe Don Baker, Kim Kahana, both uncredited in the film. Being from Central California, I can relate to the bleak landscape of these filming locations. Thank you for taking the time and effort to preserve film location history.
Hi Jeff, Yeah I agree that girl knew exactly what she was doing. 👀 I've been down Jack Tone Road many times, sure looks different now. Maybe Sarah should watch the movie, and or recreate the car wash scene . Might be a hoot. Thanks Ha Haaaa. 🇺🇸
Great job on this project. I have not seen that movie in 30 or more years. I will have to watch it again. Thanks
The amount of research you have done to find all of these locations is incredible. I had no idea Cool Hand Luke was filmed right here in Northern California. Thank you for sharing. I also want to let you know how very sorry I was to hear about your mother's passing. I recently watched your episode on Graceland and it was wonderful to see how very happy she was to finally be able to visit Elvis' home. May your dear mother rest in peace.
Lots of attention to direction where “scenes “ were shot and explanation of why scenery looks different . Thank you for the details ; that’s the difference tween a video and a great video.
loved it Jeff, just another great show. I am so sorry about your mom, my sincere condolences.
Really liked part 1 and the effort you put in, part 2 is also great! I can see the efforts you have made and believe the frustration I would have had if it were me trying to do this video. Don't believe I could handle it, but you did it. My hat is off in appreciation. Still learning!👍😊
Thank you very much! It was a long process that took months to do! You couldn't tell it by the 45 minutes or so of video I released for it.
Thank you for this it brings back many great memories of my childhood. I remember when the Movie Busses were all over the place and much of this was filmed on roads bordering my Grandpas Ranch.
Never saw the movie but always a great job with lining up the movie scenes to your location. Once again great job!
Jeff you were right this was outstanding I enjoyed it a lot thank you for part 2 . Can't wait for the next video
I was 10 years old in 1969 and I lived in Royal Oak, Michigan. My friend and I saw a double feature At a older movie theater in downtown Royal Oak. It was cool hand Luke and Bonnie and Clyde. I knew I saw two special movies.
What a really great video.....thank you.
Remember watching that as a kid with my Dad...that was his favorite movie.
Wow, so impressed with all the work to find the locations.
So we’ll done!
Thanks very much!
Great Job on Part 2! Enjoyed it!
Thanks for the visit
When Cool Hand Luke ( the Coolest Movie EVER ) was filmed I was 5 yrs old. Now this is the BEST UA-cam video ever filmed !!!!
Thank you so much! Glad you liked this video!
You two did an excellent job 👍. And Sarah is so funny 😂
One of your best videos yet. What a great movie it was. Had no idea it was filmed in the stockton and lodi area. Sorry to hear of your mother's passing. God bless.
Man this one was so nostalgic! One of our favorite movies growing up. And never knew how close it was filmed to where we passed by traveling to relatives. Makes me realize how old I am now!
The second part was great. Loved it. The old store was great. I’m glad to see it still standing.
I think all of us were waiting for that last button to pop on Joy Harmon's dress. LOL Good presentation!
Just watched this movie last week, so was glad to see it come up - great job. Thanks!
Awesome! Thank you!
All your videos are so researched and showing so many historical places! I have learned so much in the last month! When this movie was shot my sister was a newborn and I was eight. It doesn’t seem that long ago but my body tells me otherwise.
I know what you mean, Cherie! I remember the 1970s like yesterday but, wow, they were now a long time ago! I will be doing a show on the filming locations of "Dirty Mary & Crazy Larry" also shot in the Stockton area. Do you remember that one?
@@jbenziggy Yes! Look forward to it! I am almost caught up with all the videos. A couple more!
The car wash was,is, the most memorable scene, in my mind forever young !😎✌️
Ha ha ha! I think a lot of men won't forget that scene.
Awesome vlog! Beautiful scenery ! Thanks for another interesting and enjoyable vlog ! Deborah Winnipeg Canada
Thank you two for Hunting down all these locations from so many movies
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed!
History and locations from my no. 1 favorite movie of all times. Thanks so much, Jeff.
Great episode great movie
Thanks for your time and great effort in bringing this two part vlog of such an iconic movie!
Great actors ! Great movie !
That was a fantastic video , thanks Jeff & Sarah
I love these film (movie) locations.🇬🇧
Thank you!!!
Excellent research on locations and shots, really well done! 👍👍
Thanks a lot! Much appreciated!
Jeff and Sarah.....Your exhaustive research is truly amazing. I know of no other videos quite like yours. Your video and audio is wonderful. If you don't win some kind of an award for your efforts something would be amiss. Now, to go stream "Cool Hand Luke"! Many thanks again for an early Sunday morning gift from you. .....Russell D.
This was very interesting. I watched both parts. Thanks for taking the time to do this episode. Just amazing how you can easily drive by places like this and never know what took place there.
So interesting, and so close, I have traveled many of those roads thought I knew Jack tone Rd. Yes lots of change out that way (Ripon area) just in the short 35 years since We built homes there.
Thanks Jeff & Sarah.
Don't count the years brother takes up to much time
Central California watching
Amazed at how you nail down the locations and details of movies. Especially after so many years have passed from the shooting of them! I was trying to figure out what the car was she was washing. I think it's a early to mid 40s Ford or Mercury. Do you know what it was? Anyway great job! Keep up the good work!👍😃
Another outstanding episode Jeff and Sarah!
Thank you very much, Randy! Awesome to hear!
Hello from Youngstown, Ohio . I've seen the movie countess times, A+++ for all of you efforts sir, well done!
Kind of a reminder that we are all on borrowed time. Nothing lasts except eternal God. Great series and research. Thank you.
you rock
Jeff, what an absolutely brilliant video ( part 1&2 ). Being old enough ( was 10 when CHL was made ) to remember what it was like when I first saw it in about 1969. I can tell you that car washing science got the heart rate of pubescent teens racing lol. You know Morgan Woodward had many fine memories of making this movie ( Rob Word interviews ). Such a significant part in the movie and he just said nothing and looked through those reflective glasses. It was also great to see a building that has survived all those years ( the store ) which added to your story of one of the great movies of all time. I was sorry to see that Sarah wasn’t curious enough to want to watch the movie lol. Another great job guys from Down Under.
THANK YOU so much for this trek through the filming locations. Rest In Peace to that woman's Mom. I'm getting senile being that I turn 60 in a couple weeks.🤪 I've already managed to forget her name. I apologize. I also lost my Mom at about the same age back in 2014. Cool Hand Luke was one of her favorite movies. Along with Walking Tall as I recall. But, myself being 6 or 7 at the time, she thought those movies were too "mature" for me. How times have changed.
Great video thank you all.
ahhh wow Jeff gotta see that movie..if could find a poster of that car wash scene..LAWD,LAWD..LOLING..i'm here in Gainesville Florida, and yes spanish moss and those trees looked a lot like our (water oaks) they tend to fall over easy due to the weak root system, they topple in great numbers during hurricane season.
A southern snapping turtle wood hold on to a stick like that.
Condolences to you and your family.
Love your work, fantastic episode!
Another great episode
Thank you very much, Lance! We like and appreciate your comment as well as you watching!
Alot of research going on in this video I really enjoyed it thanks
There have been so many of your episodes that bring back so many memories Good on you Guys!
LOVE cool hand Luke! Thanks for the historical visit!
You’re welcome! Thanks!
Great video, both parts. Enjoyed it. Many thanks from England 🏴 🙏
