Hoyt Torrex XT vs Hoyt RX 7 Ultra - I Plan to Hunt w/ Both | The Setup w/ Bill Winke

  • I compare the two bows I am going to hunt with this year and show key features from both. I am impressed by how well the lower priced Torrex XT shoots. It is a super solid bow that will do anything you need a compound bow to do at a lower price than Hoyt's top bows. I also discuss my shooting method and why a hard back wall at full draw is so important to consistent accuracy.

    I LOVE Hoyt bows too Bill. Glad you haven’t gone Mathew’s like everyone else. Looking forward to more Bowhunting Whitetails. You should give saddle hunting a try Bill. I’m 58 and been doing it for 3 years now. It’s an awesome tool for more mobility.

      I hope you speaking about Hoyt carbon ! 800£ torrex xt in not entry level bow 200£ it is . Do you own iPhone 15 ? And every year you buying new iPhone and computer 🖥️ and the old one you call entry level. You are the one who ? Who paying 1700$ for a bow and saying is great bow no hand vibrations. Let me bring up something not sure if you has been watching wolf of Wall Street? If you did there is a moment where he trick customer and solid insurance but behind laugh and shows him middle finger. Is just like with Hoyt carbon bow 1700$ ? Hoyt mast laugh behind your back. Ask yourself what technology is behind? Why cost so moch every year? Is just fricking bow the principal of the bow is the same and always will be doesn’t matter if they change a little in cam .

      I agree with that decision. The accessories are the key as long as the basic bow itself is well made and tuneable.

    Thanks for the tip awhile back about the grip on the RX7. I think part of the problem was having to much weight on back bar. Took 2 weights off and could tell right away what you were talking about. The pressure being in the heal of the hand. Plus had to go back to old release. The ultraview button I couldn't get my hand under my chin enough. Feel good shooting out to 50 yards now. That bow is so nice. Thanks again

    The Hoyts look like great bows. Great advice. I practice with a hinge most of the time. Just to get use to holding on target. But I’m still a Spott Hogg Wiseguy fan.
    And I’m 100% certain Mr. Winke could kill a deer with a white tail hunter!! The archer makes the bow. Luke 9:62

    • @bill-winke
      @bill-winke  10 місяців тому +1

      Believe it or not, I owned a Whitetail Hunter (probably one of the first years they were made) but I didn't kill a deer with it. I shot it instinctively back then and wasn't super good at that! The old Weatherest fell the bow every fourth or fifth shot, so I am sure there wasn't much consistent about that rig. The Wise Guy is a good release. Just got the new prototype from B3 today and really like that. It came with a two finger trigger (index and middle). Looks like the Hawk Swivel, but lighter trigger. Man, I can sure make a surprise release with that. I used to do all my off-season shooting with a hinge too - very good for your overall form. Have a great day.

    these "entry" level bows are light years ahead of what I was using and killing deer with back in the 90s and early 2000s, even with top of the line stuff back then. In regards to shooting with back tension, i've found i also shoot left unless I leave the wrist strap faily loose, and feel like im pulling my elbow directly in line with the arrow behind me - the feel for me is to feel like im trying to pull my hand out of the release strap while having the index finger curled around the trigger.

    Im a 32" draw so i definetly keep a bow when i find the right one. Ive been shooting a bear br33 for the last 4 or so years. I have never owned or shot a hoyt but would love to give on an honest try. They seem to always have a longer draw bow in their catalog every year.

    • @bill-winke
      @bill-winke  10 місяців тому

      Bryan. That's right. I am a 32 inch draw also, or at least have been over the years. I think I have shrunk a bit and am shooting 31 1/2 this year. That is one of the main reasons I switched to Hoyt back in the late 90s. They made really good long draw bows. I think you will really like the RX 7 Ultra if you can come up with the money. Good luck.

    Great video demonstrating two relatively similar bows, from an engineering standpoint. Carbon v. Aluminum primarily drives cost. But why are you wearing gloves? Is is to prevent leaving scent on the bow?

    • @bill-winke
      @bill-winke  5 місяців тому

      No, gloves reduce friction between my hand and the bow reducing bow hand torque during the shot. I wear the same style jersey gloves for all my shooting, in season and out. Thanks for the comment

    Since I have a 32 inch DL, is it a very limited number of bows I can shoot and they also tend to be more expensive bows.
    I know it is a benefit to have my DL, but at times do I wish I had a 29-30 inch DL instead.

      They are the T-64. It is Easton's tapered arrow. I am not sure the taper really makes a difference, but I do shoot it pretty well. I think the fact that the tail is smaller in diameter than the tip allows the vanes to clear the rest a bit easier, but I don't see professionals using the arrow, so it can't be that great.

      That is totally pointless with the DL and DW Bill shots and the animals he hunts.
      If he had been shooting 30-40 DW and a 26 DL or shorter, then it might help a bit, but the total arrow weight, FOC and choice of broadhead matters extremely much more.

    • @bill-winke
      @bill-winke  10 місяців тому +1

      Darin, if you try a newer design bow you will want it immediately so don't even test fire one unless you are willing to buy it! I remember when I first shot a parallel limb bow (today's bow standard) after shooting an older style for my entire life. I literally threw my old bow down on the yard where I was shooting and never drew it back again! The new bows are that much nicer to shoot. Not to say you need one every year, but in your case, I think you might really like the new stuff. Good luck and have a great day.

      It is module adjustable within a range. You turn the modules to change the draw length. I like the longer bows too, but it was fun to set this one up to see how it shoots. I could definitely kill deer with this.

    Would that Torrex XT be short for a guy that’s 6’ 5” and 30 inch plus draw due to nock pinch?

    • @bill-winke
      @bill-winke  10 місяців тому

      I have mine set up with an nocking loop so that kind of eliminates nock pinch (to a certain degree). I am no professional archer by a long shot, but I have been shooting compound bows since 1977. I am sure I can kill deer with the Torrex XT at 31 inches draw out to 40 yards. It is definitely forgiving enough for that. Maybe I would have a different opinion if I was trying to win an ASA 3-D event. Not sure. Have a great day.
