  • 🏠 VLOG: Installing a Weatherproof Socket in a Clients Shed | Using SWA and Existing Ducting
Join me in today's vlog as I tackle a practical upgrade for a clients shed - installing a weatherproof IP65 socket outlet! I'll walk you through the process of how I utilised Steel Wire Armoured (SWA) cable and existing ducting to bring power to my shed, enhancing its functionality for various projects and activities.
In this video, you'll get an inside look at:
    - Planning and Preparation: Understanding the layout and deciding on the best location for the socket.
    - Choosing the Right Materials: Why I opted for SWA cable and how I repurposed existing ducting.
    - Installation Journey: Highlights and challenges encountered during the installation process.
    - Personal Tips and Insights: Lessons learned and advice for others considering a similar project.

Thanks for the video. As an adult learner do you need to earth the armour in the SWA?

Yes. This can be done at either the supply or the load end, whichever is easier for you generally.
This was taken into a HENSEL adaptable box with the PE metal inlay so that’s where it was earthed/bonded.
Reason you have to bond it is if the cable gets damaged and the live core comes into contact with the armouring, the steel strands could become live… if they’re bonded they will short circuit and activate the OCPD

Best to, incase a digger or shovel hit the outdoor SWA Cable, the short circuit from the earthed armour will cut the power before any internal circuit or appliances are damaged. I hope that made sense 😅
