Winchester Cathedral has to be a Winchester top attraction and we'll see that on our journey.
A Winchester day trip or a weekend break won't let you down, as there is so many things to see and do in Winchester.

One of my hobbies is photography. Winchester has so much to offer. Beautiful architecture. What a wonderful place to people watch. Thank you for another wonderful video. I was looking forward to fishing the creek in the park. And then... I saw the "No Fishing" sign. Maybe next time.
Well good afternoon, or is it morning for you HD? We rather liked Winchester, ancient without being stuffy. There'd be plenty for you to photograph that's for sure. Ah no point you popping off to Winchester if you can't fish though!! Hope you're staying toast in Sandpoint? We're off to a slightly warmer Madeira tomorrow and jolly well looking forward to it.
One of my favourite cities in the UK, So quintessentially English! So it's good to walk those streets with you. Bravo LW.

I can see this as a great day trip. Walking through here is like walking back in ancient times. Wow the oldest graffiti in the 1500s. The farmer's market is a good day to go and see what the locals are selling. The Abbey Gardens looks glorious.
Hello there LL, yes it’s wonderfully English isn’t it. We would have loved to have spent more time there but we were only stopping off on our way home from Cornwall. Lived in Winchester for a few years. Loved it. But for me, my go to place was always the water meadows alongside Winchester College. Stunningly beautiful.

Hello friends - yet another of your fascinating walks. In the past, I have visited Winchester many, many times, although admittedly it was spent mostly in the Cathedral libraries. As a historian/paleographer the Cathedral is home to a marvelous collection of manuscripts, although much has been lost over time, and many volumes donated to the Bodleian Library. The glory of the Cathedral though is the Winchester Bible, a stunningly illuminated book, produced in the Twelfth Century, and arguably the finest example of its kind still surviving :)
Outside the Cathedral visitors are able to see, on the ground, an outline marking the extent of the earlier ( far smaller ) Anglo Saxon church, demolished by the Normans.
Interesting place, much to enjoy, so thanks once again :)

I looked up the Winchester Bible via view image and I quite appreciate you saying it's a stunningly illuminated book. I'd certainly like to see that for real. The blue pigment is wonderfully vibrant.

It is always my privilege and delight if I am ever able to offer some additional information that may be of interest to others.Many cathedral churches across the country offered collections of manuscripts to the Bodleian Library, as over certain passages of time, their safety, security and survival were not always guaranteed.
Yes the blue pigment, Lapis Lazuli, from far eastern Afghanistan has always been a favorite of mine.Not only for it`s place of origin, but also it`s bright ultramarine colour, not to mention it`s cost ( more expensive than gold ) making it the must have pigment for illuminated manuscripts, stained glass windows, tapestry, jewellery and more.
Recent high tech digital scanning has revealed ( in some illuminations ) that the blue, considered Lapis, was often mixed with the far cheaper azure blue - although the person paying for the manuscript quite possibly never knew - scam :)

I often think about it and hope that everything goes well. It is now almost Christmas ... time really runs fast!
I know the covid situation in the UK is quite serious and I hope you are always on the safe side.
Here the cases are increasing day by day even if it still seems to be under control, but I think the government is trying to save Christmas if possible ....
I'm still not very well, I hope that the new year will bring me that serenity and health that this year unfortunately for various reasons I have lost.
But I always try to be positive and to look forward with joy.
My dearest, as always watching your videos gives me moments of stress relief and great serenity and makes me .... travel with you! You know how much I miss the real trip, the one abroad, the preparation, the waiting ..... all emotions that I hope to experience next year.
Winchester is absolutely gorgeous! Lots of history and beauty and tradition.
I would very much like to visit it. I love places that tell a story. I'm Italian and I know that roots matter a lot.

We have been thinking about you and hoping you are ok.
Indeed the covid situation in the UK is not so good. We are fortunate to be triple jabbed and not to need to go into busy places. We are also very lucky to spend some of the most difficult period in Madeira, where we feel at ease and happy and out in nature.
So sorry to hear you are still not very well, I hope that the new year will bring you better health and brighter things.
As you say all we can do is to try to be positive and to look forward with hope.
We are always happy to hear that watching our videos gives you moments of stress relief, it's what we hope for for sure!
We know how much you miss travel and we hope you can experience it next year.

@@LivingWalks My dearest Y&M !! Sorry for the delay in replying, these are days a bit full of things to do! Even if like you I try to stay away from crowded places as much as possible!
I have never even been in the center of Milan to see the decorations and the big Christmas tree in Piazza del Duomo! Too many, too many people, I don't feel safe. Maybe after Christmas there will be less crowds and maybe I'll take a ride. I would have liked to have made a video about Christmas decorations and atmosphere, but this situation really takes away the freedom to do many, many things! Here the infections are increasing every day. We are now at 30,000. My husband and I will also do the third dose, precisely on December 27th and thus we will be more relaxed. Even if not totally, unfortunately ....
However, we hope that 2022 will be a year that gives us hope for the future and gives us back our freedom.
We all really deserve it!
