    Wow that thing cuts really well! If it wasn’t for the stationary handle and my insanely pitched back yard, I would love to get this. Instead I got the Toro 60-volt Personal Pace 22inch mower and I love it.

    I've had mine about a year now & love it. The only complaints I have are the handles seem REALLY long & getting a replacement safety key has been a nightmare.
    The long handle makes it difficult if I have to turn around against an obstacle (like a fence). The overall "feel" is that it's a long "low-rider" mower. I have to make multiple perimeter passes to bring the edge in maybe three or four passes. This year I'm just going to cut the lower part of the handle down to a more manageable length.
    The safety key was almost a deal breaker. They've become a little more available, but last year it was almost impossible to get one. Also, there is a square version used on other Makita mowers (I think the 08), but it won't fit this one (03). Make sure you're looking for the "rectangular" end, not the "square" end. The "specialist" at HD had NO clue what I was even talking about.
    Finally found an independent dealer that knew what he was doing. Even special ordering through a dealer was outrageously expensive. What's essentially a $5 fuse cost me about $30 ($20 of it was shipping). It still took a month. No clue what the problem was. They've become a little easier to get (at least online). I was able to find them at a somewhat reasonable price & snagged two just as a backup. If you buy one of these mowers (and I strongly recommend them), make sure you get at least one extra safety key at the same time.

    Serious design flaws.
    I'm a contractor and I have been a loyal Makita tools buyer for over twenty years. I own a two table saws, two chop saws, sawzall, multiple corded drills, hammer drill, grinders, shears, router and table, six battery impact guns, eight battery drills, ten(!) battery garden shears, two four-battery chargers, four two-battery chargers, and too many single battery chargers to count.
    As I have so many Makita products it seemed logical to purchase a Makita mower.
    (PART 1) The grass was getting long after it arrived ONE WEEK after ordering, I took it out of the box, assembled the folding arms (super easy), put the batteries in, plugged in the plastic key and was on my way. The first lane I cut seemed okay, except half way along the thirty foot run when a hubcap on one of the wheels decided to fall off. I stopped and popped it back on, but by the time I got to the end of the row, the hubcap had fallen off again. So when I got to the end I pulled the mower in reverse and heard a BANG BANG noise and pellets or hard rubber went flying out in all directions, striking my four year old in the shin and causing a huge welt. While he ran off screaming I thought, oh gosh, what did I do wrong? The mower would not run now, it was off balance because of a bent blade assembly.
    What happened?
    The mower is so poorly designed that when pulling in reverse the hard rubber flap that swings back and forth keeping detritus from flying out and hitting your shins as you mow - this flap had moved forward and struck the blades which bent and created an off balance situation which caused the 'smart' mower to shut off. The rubber flap was missing a chunk. I was so amazed I got on the phone immediately and called the hotline and spoke to Ralph McCauley who was incredulous. He said I should send him photos and I did. He replied to me over the phone - saying that the mower was damaged in shipping and that I should return it immediately. Damaged in shipping? So I jumped through the hoops, disassembled the mower, repacked it in a completely perfect box without a single ding in the cardboard, requested and printed the Amazon return label, then waited for another week for a replacement mower. The new mower arrived. To know how that experience went, restart at (PART 1) and re-read that experience. The only difference is that this time the rubber cut off hit my leg, not my kid's leg. The hubcap from a different wheel fell off on mower two. I call Makita Service and they tell me - haha - that this is the first time they heard of this and that the mower was damaged in shipping. So I reorder a new mower after repacking this one. I wait a week for the new mower to arrive.
    MOWER NUMBER 3 arrives. I take it out of the box. I note that the flap WILL HIT THE BLADES if I reverse the mower. I call Makita service and explain the situation to Dick who said he was named John who tells me this is the first time this has ever happened. John was so rude, when I asked his full name he refused to give it to me. He told me that I needed to return the mower. Again. I said I was going to remove the rubber flap, using a philips screwdriver, and I was going to use the mower. He said if I did this HE WOULD VOID my warranty.
    VOID MY WARRANTY!!!! HE is going to VOID MY WARRANTY.
    He claimed that the mower had been damaged - in shipping - yeah.
    So I removed the flap by removing three philips screws from the plastic hinge bezel with a screwdriver and am using the mower. The third mower. Carries a VOID WARRANTY now too.
    But I don't care. It's the last Makita product I'm ever going to buy.
    The first day two of the hubcaps fell off. I had to put them on with a bit of butyl rubber to keep them from falling off.
    Makita - I realize you're not reading this - but to the rest of you out there, keeping in mind that I am a contractor, insert a colorful set of 3, 4, and 6 letter invectives (curse words) to describe my feelings for Makita now.

  • @ryanmacewen511

    I have the Makita 36V Trimmer, and blower. The blower is insane, the trimmer is decent. I wish there was a better cutting head for the trimmer that's easier to load, although, the stock one is probably the easiest I've used. I just trim against a lot of foundation, so I eat up line quick. I'm totally happy with both of them. I recent bought the Ryobi 40V auger, still in box. But it opened the door to Ryobi 40V. I don't need a mower, but I already want the Makita one, lol. I'm in pretty much every platform but Bosch 18V, and Hitachi. I try to stay with one, but some just lack in areas.

      If the line spool is the only issue y you have with the Makita string trimmer, the common fix is to replace the spool with an Echo Speed Feed 400. There's videos specifically on it.

    It's a shame that there isn't more advertising and emphasis being placed on the impact applying a pre-emergent herbicide in early spring does to the look and quality of lawns. There's virtually little to none annoying weeds to deal with, what's left is just the uniform grass type that was originally planted. It makes such a huge impact on the curb appeal of the homes.

    • @BadfingerFan
      @BadfingerFan 3 роки тому +1

      Bingo! The short cut height of 3 inches is the worst part of the mower. If you have St. Augustine, select a different mower. Besides, the handle height is non-adjustable. In every other way, however, this Makita mower is awesome!

  • @ATF-Agent-007

    Nice video Boss. I unfortunately went with the “nicest and newest” Ryobi 40 volt and so far am NOT impressed. Run time is not good and doesn’t produce enough suction/vacuum for bagging the smaller leaves/debris.

    • @BadfingerFan
      @BadfingerFan 3 роки тому +1

      At least that Ryobi can be set at 4 to 4 1/2 inch cut height. This Makita cuts around 3 inches at best--Not highter. Your Ryobi's suction will improve if you adjust the cut height lower.

    • @ATF-Agent-007
      @ATF-Agent-007 3 роки тому +1

      @@BadfingerFan Yea, that’s true, but down here in the southeast, and especially with my crap grass, I usually have to cut at the lowest or next to the lowest level, and it still leaves a lot of debris/leaves. I still like the mower, I just have to get used to the performance difference between battery and gas, which isn’t that big of a deal.

    I have a Makita 15" 36V X2 grass trimmer--to cut deep ditch weeds, small trees and so on. Run star line 0.95 and it screams at over 6,000 RPM. A neighbor was very impressed and asked about the Mikita 36V X2 push mower--a few thoughts. Yes, it is made for contractors because contractors don't want folding handles (more stuff to break, pinched wires etc.) but Makita just released it's XGT platform or "40V Max" or for the LiMn literate--36V nominal. Yes, they are the same but the 40V Max battery will eventually roll out with the 21700 cells for an 8 amp hour high current option. If you can wait until next spring, I'd be looking at that because of the much higher capacity batteries coming available soon. The 18V is great, I have four of the 5Ah batteries but in reality, when dealing with lawn mowers, table saws and that form of madness the 18V line was never meant to do that. Told my neighbor to wait on the 40V 8Ah batteries to become available then the "XGT mower" should be coming online quickly. Never know, Makita might allow two 8Ah packs to be used to triple the runtime over the 18V packs. Also, you can purchase a 33Ah pack that will fit on your lawnmower, it can also be worn as a backpack so if you want to move up from 36V 6Ah to 36V 33Ah--you can. It is also compatible with all 36V X2 and "40V Max" XGT style tools because they are the same voltage. Cost? Bwahahaha! All the tool companies go Hesenburg on you with batteries so I dare not to ask.
