    As a pool noodle doesn't have 'blade bite' like a light saber does a hand guard could be beneficial.
    To make it not optically intrusive I suggest gluing a ring of (same color) larger diameter pool noodle to the base of the blade.

    Now I see why the Hammershot is such a useful blaster! When you're using a shield in a Nerf battle, you need a blaster that can be operated singlehandedly, and the Hammershot is the only hammer-action blaster that's not too small, but not to large*...
    *(The Doomlands' Lawbringer is simply too bulky for this purpose...)

    Maglite or 1 1/2" drain pipe clips would probably allow you to mount the sabre on the inside of this so that you could carry it onboard & only deploy when needed.

    What about adding a female hook onto it so it can connect to your vest? It'd be menacing to throw it over your shoulder and have it on your back while you're running someone down.

  • @strawberrypupper897
    @strawberrypupper897 6 років тому

    Please demo this set, I want to see it in action. Especially the shield, you _say_ both holds work but that T alignment with the grips looks mighty tight in there, it'd be nice if you could demonstrate how you hold it comfortably. Aside from that, of course we need to see you nerd sabering the air and showing how well the shield covers you. Maybe show off the melee set with a ranged loadout?

  • @KDWolf27
    @KDWolf27 7 років тому +5

    You are not a nerd! You are normal to those that share you passion and dream. Personally, why didn't you find a way to put the handle of your shield on a 90 degreee pivot? This way you could switch from riot shield to combat in a instant.

    I got a cool idea for you captain Xavier, you like your modular air blasters, and i got a cool idea, you normally rock a shotgun style add-on or a single fire, well how about a clip fed attachment? I mean, it could be difficult, but it would grant you alot of modularity, and versatility. Plus, it'd be like a older gun where you have your standard gun, then you can switch to rifle grenades (demolisher rockets). But sorry that i didnt comment this on those videos. I do think this gear should work quite well and I think it's very cool.

    I'm tickled to bits that you study Historical European Martial Arts. I'd actually watched this some time back, before I got into HEMA (Fiore, specifically, but that's aside the point), but I remembered just recently that you mentioned studying German longsword in a video. So I went hunting, and found this video again. Maybe this is a sign I should throw myself back into Nerf modding like I used to.
    And yes, Liechtenauer would probably be dismayed at people using his system for foam sword combat. Then again, that's probably the only place outside of HEMA circles where it can really be applied XD

    What do you think of straps? I prefer Greek to Roman, but the medieval straps are my preferred setup. Also, do you prefer broadsword or longsword?

    • @CaptainXavier
      @CaptainXavier  7 років тому +1

      It all depends on the situation. If I am fighting in a shield wall I much prefer the Roman style shield. Fighting single I much prefer a medieval style shield.
      Same with the sword. If I am fighting with a shield obviously I would prefer a broadsword (or a knighty sword) but if I am fighting with just a sword I would much prefer a Longsword.

    What size of pvc fits a pool noodle nicely?

    • @CaptainXavier
      @CaptainXavier  7 років тому +5

      This is 3/4 in I think. But it depends on the pool noodle. As far as I know there is not international Pool Noodle Standard Committee that dictates in the inside diameter of Pool Noodles...

    I am not sure PVC is a good material for the core. My understanding is that it is prone to cracking and it is sharp when it breaks.

    • @CaptainXavier
      @CaptainXavier  7 років тому

      Only if you use the thin walled still or if you hit really really hard. I was going to put something inside the PVC but I could not find a good fit. If it proves to be an issues I can always replace it later.

      Captain Xavier I've made foam swords similar to this and a wood dowel with a few layers of duct tape (5-7 pending how much play you want in the blade) works well as filler for pvc.

    Where did you learn your shield tactics? I was a member of the SCA in a roman house hold so learned them there as well as the use of the oval greek/cavalry shield.

    out of curiosity. how did you finish the saber tip? In thepast iv seen construction regs that allowed for thrusting
    IF the tip was padded with foam.

      +Jon Tainter I filled in the tip with foam.

    • @CaptainXavier
      @CaptainXavier  7 років тому

      4 inches or so. There are no strict requirements because it is a "lightest touch" system. Also there is almost not sword on sword combat.

      Or with speed, stealth, accuracy, maneuvers, flanking, elevation, or a bigger shield. "Armor piercing" rounds are just by far the easiest. :)
