- Mike Bereal has some of the fattest Voicings in gospel. In fact, they are so crazy that it's hard to copy them cause I can never hear them. That's right folks, Mike's Voicings are very difficult to hear so this video will be a treat for those of you who truly want that "sauce" playing behind a good singer.

Surprised Mike didn’t play the original chords after she sings “From His grace” lyrics. Dorinda normally looks for those chords, but since Mike played so artistically, I think she overlooked it. 😆

I've really enjoyed this video. I am just beginning my musical journey into these new chording and voicings. Been playing for 34 years, but mostly within major/minor/ 7ths.. Any suggestions on videos/ courses to begin to wrap my mind around this new adventure?
I learned that piano part note for note and played it for a singer during a big church concert some years ago. I had a blast back then.

@@SeanWilsonPiano I meant to say, "I learn the song it it's entirety". It took a couple of days to learn the intro. It wasn't easy. Then I had to practice with the Gospel singer. After the solo intro, it's basically repeating 4-5 chords when the background choir parts come in.

man thats awesome!! quick question how do you stay true to your sound when learning all these movements from different people? i want to see a video with a sean wilson movement that you came up with would be nice to hear i love all the famous people but everyone is chasing their sound i want something else...
Your sound is what you hear in music that resonates with you. When you learn progressions from stock the bare information has less to do with “your sound” and more with how you express that information which is ultimately “your sound.” Your sound is the makeup of information of all the music you’ve learned and been apart of creating over the years. But don’t get into the whole “my sound his sound” BS. Just be a connoisseur for collecting musical information. It can only add depth to your vocabulary.
Man Sean you on top of this!!🔥🔥 but I have a question. How much time to do you put in just transcribing a song? 1 week per song? Or do you do sections of song per week? Etc. Asking for me(someone trying to improve his transcription)
It took me an hour to do this song. So I give myself one hour per week generally. As soon as I transcribe it I record the vid, same day, so it makes me flow better when I’m reacting on the spot. if I didn’t have the channel, I’d spend far longer, like weeks

Greetings. Towards the end, it sounds like Mike Bereal is using the “Constant Structure” concept over the bass note (D). The chord is D7(b9, #9) but before he gets to it he uses the same chord type two half steps below to get to it. C7(b9, #9), then Db7(b9, #9), and finally, the D7(b9, #9).
He doesn’t play the root of C7 or Db7 as bass notes but they are in the voicing. I hear the following voicings for these three chords he plays. First the (D) bass note, then C7(b9, #9): L.H. (E, G, Bb, Db) R.H. (E, G, Bb, C, D#), then Db7(b9, #9): L.H. (F, Ab, Cb, Ebb) R.H. (F, Ab, Cb, Db, E), and finally D7(b9, #9): L.H. (F#, A, C, Eb) R.H. (F#, A, C, D, E#). Mike Bereal’s patch gives it a nice sound as well. God bless.

Hi, the chords at around nine minute mark you are wondering are a D7 with a sharp 9, sharp 5, and a flat 9. In the right hand: F, Bb, Eb; left hand D, F#, C. The next chord a half step up. That's what I hear.
This is another one too, we have a comment in hear that has another voicing too that I think is pretty close

@@jazzkolo1582 I can't recommend tho, you have to look at your own needs, they are entirely different models with different engines. The rule of thumbs with keyboards is to buy the newer one that you can afford. It'll be more compatible down the line

Please I will prefer modx I have moxf8 and it is great but I like the modx. Moxf8 has the motif xf8 sound engine and modx has the almighty montage sound engine which is current. But the budget is a factor.

@@joshuawilliams7137 A Midi files just means I play along with him and record it in logic. In my old videos I would record the screen while logic is playing. Don't overcomplicate it though, its just recording yourself playing in a DAW

I love your channel but you approximate and are wrong on a lot of your transcriptions. That was not a Bb to B major at 3:39. That was a trill between a 2nd inversion Abmin to 2nd inversion Bb minor to Bb7.
This was not Mike Bereal playing. That was Eddie Brown!
On this live version, Mike bereal was playing , Eddie brown did the actual recording. I seen Mike play this on the actual DVD
