Thank you Sean. I always loved this progression sound from Take 6. Never even thought to try to figure it out because it sounded so beyond my ability to sound out. Now, thanks to you, I can play it and its so lovely 😍 God bless you always.
Hello Sean, you are such a phenomenal teacher. You are able to break chords down in a manner that all classes of pianist can understand. God bless you real good. I learnt alot here today!!!
I’ve been watching this video over and over😭😭 and one thing I picked up is that when he’s doing the 2-5-1 progression as he changes keys, it can also be seen as a 7-3-6 progression in the original key (but the 6 would be a major chord because at the moment you’re thinking of 2-5-1) I hope that helps and hopefully if you guys see anything interesting to point out y’all drop it in the comment section too!✨
I'm a self-taught, jazz accordionist and stumbled upon this about two years ago. I found the progressions so intriguing, but didn't know the theory. Now I know because of you. Thanks a mill Sean, much appreciated.
All his lessons are excellent but this one sparked something in me to practice more. Sometimes we get busy and complacent. So I appreciate all this brother do.
This is what I have been trying to understand. I even enrolled in a class to understand this but my teacher could not communicate the concept. Thank you sir.
Brutha I myself as a church musician definetly needed this!!!!! Very very helpful in undsrstanding the method to the madness! Please keep giving us the game! Thank you greatly
Brother Wilson, I really appreciate what you shared in your 3 minute rant. You have no idea how much that connected with me. Your understanding is very inspiring. Thank You. God bless you.
My only regret is that I have only 1 like I'm allowed to give. Your videos are SO thoughtful, instructive... I've learned a LOT from you Sean. Thanks SOOO much.
This is gold! I was just thinking about this while I was playing yesterday and it was so frustrating to not know how to weave into other keys. This tho…this really opened up my understanding to the relationship between keys. Thank you!
EXCELLENT VIDEO! To a guy that was labeled as "gifted" playing by "ear" and playing the piano & organ for my church the age of 11 - 18, growing up in the church, where I was doing some of this without able to describe it at the time...but I had developed an excellent "ear" from my practice in being in a professional boy's choir, from ages 9 -12. Now, as I'm getting back into playing as an adult, I will take advantage of your training, to help me get back into it again. Thank you so much.
17:03 is really interesting! I've been playing at a primarily "CCM" style church recently, the subject of 'emotion' vs 'theory and structure' comes up a lot. I keep telling them "you have to just feel it"
That was awesome man. It makes sense. I want to play out of the box but sometimes I hear these changes from Cory, quennel Gaskin, but wasn't sure what they were doing.
You are unlocking so much I’ve heard this done never understood it until now with the relationship of the thirds …thank you so much easy to follow very very clear!!!
Loved this video, Sean. I’ve always understood the relationship between the relative minor and major, but never considered going the opposite direction and moving UP a minor third instead of down! Can’t wait to practice this!
Excellent lesson Sean. Yes, it motivates me to do some homework. I've always loved that song but never knew the name of it. Now I'm motivated to work on it and the related key changes. You're a great teacher and a great motivator.
I've been a vocalist for many years and now I understand the relationship between the key & transitions. I can hear it but playing it needs practice. Thank you so much for sharing this. Truly a great teacher and communicator. God bless you. I might watch this everyday for awhile till I get it. Sending love.♥️💖💝✌🏾
You are an excellent teacher u just opened the ceiling, I hardly play keys but I love the instrument. I’m hoping to make time to grow because I really purely on my ear
An alternative song to that Take6 song is Michs move by the late Parris Bowen🙏🏽...exact same moves the nice thing about it is that it actually changes keys after each cycle
I've been discouraged about this kind of harmony for very long since I heard some snob say that you just have to ''get it'' if you ever want to understand jazz. If you dont ''have it'', dont bother. This was very enlightening, such good explainations. I want you to know it inspired me deeply, thank you very very much.
I gotta watch this again ....i got lost!!!😅 This is good stuff. God bless you for sharing. Many folks wont share with their brothers and sisters. Iron sharpens iron folks!!!!
Minor third relationships, natural relationships... makes sense Sean. I guess I hadn't thought about that so in essence: • If you're in the key of C, the relationship is either Eb • If you're in the key of C#, the relationship is either E • If you're in the key of Eb, the relationship is either F# So on and so forth... :) ...thus going out of the key/ or applying the "transitional." Incredibly useful tip. Thank for for sharing this, I had to come back to this video and really hear your comments again. This video is Amazing folks, ...absolute FIRE!
Reharm has never made more sense. I watched this video a few times then went and played and it made perfect sense with what I already know. Dope video fam
Ohh man, i knew about the relationship between the relative major and minor but I never knew I could use them like this, it's a game changer for me... God bless you Mr Sean.
Sean, I was gonna say that Mitch’s Move by Paris Bowens has been my practice for doing the minor relationship going up instead of down (C - Eb- F# - A) ((he starts in Db)) I learned Septembro thanks to this video. Thank you for all your content and help.
Thank you Sean for another excellent lesson. I think the chord chosen for the transition is really important - u choose the coolest chords/voicings for that. Really appreciated 👍🏿..
Love your channel brother. Iʻve really taken on board your thoughts of music as a language. It's not all about the ear but more importantly your vocabulary. Iʻm still able to learn more vocab, even when Iʻm away from my instrument. God bless brother.
@@SeanWilsonPiano the good thing master you have given me the key now because i was reaching at a certain point i get lost 😭 for now i know the secret behind ✌️🙏
Chromatic Mediants are the theoretical terms for this. As you were explaining it, I remember a Rick Beato video I saw long time ago. Sean video helped me make it practical. Good stuff.
Sean thank you so much ,this lesson did resonate with me I'm at a Crossroads of being actually more excellent in my understanding or dropping out and forgetting about it I really appreciate your Insight and overstanding thanks again👌😌👍
Most clarifying piano lesson I’ve had so far in 40 years

Thank you Sean. I always loved this progression sound from Take 6. Never even thought to try to figure it out because it sounded so beyond my ability to sound out. Now, thanks to you, I can play it and its so lovely 😍 God bless you always.
I’ve seen it from Barry Harris also, all this keys share the same diminished, half a step bellow them, that’s actually why it works.
Nice

Welcome Sir. I hope to one day understand music and play like you. More grace and anointing on you and your ministry in Jesus name.

Exactly.
2-5-1 just a relationship, in substitution, they always change major to minor, minor to diminish, or….
The video cracked my brain open. Thank you Sean!!

Everything is diminished!
3 families of fully diminished chords are all the keys we know. It’s so astounding!!!!
Brother Wilson, I really appreciate what you shared in your 3 minute rant. You have no idea how much that connected with me. Your understanding is very inspiring. Thank You. God bless you.
Appreciate it man!!
Those diminished shapes are like portals to different sonic multiverses allowing you to weave in and out of different realities

I appreciate it bro?
You had me at Take 6. Sean is the Essential MisterRogers Educator of Good Music. Much Respect.
This has definitely opened my mind because it never made sense to me before how they were reharming as if it was so normal and easy.
Glad it was helpful man!

I've heard many versions of this song, but it's something about the way you play it. O my! So Beautiful.
I just wish you would cover this song and play it without saying a word.
Sean, you have a special gift of communication and teaching which is like a desert that accompanies your amazing music talent.. !

My guy. Your calm, sedate manner effectively cloaks your insatiable voraciousness for the music theory brain-game 😉.
Keep the training going, brother.
I've never heard anyone break down the relationship of keys in music. I was blown away by your thought process, which resonated with me. Thank you.

Yeah, that should get similar results. Good work
