Magazines can be a “make it or break it” proposition for both competition and hunting. If a round doesn’t feed, you could lose a stage in a rifle match, or the opportunity to take a trophy game animal. Recently, while Craig Arnzen from Area 419 was visiting, he shared some techniques for maximizing the reliability of AICS magazines, and that’s the topic of this video!

When you spend $80 on a magazine all of this finish work should be done. For that cost the magazine should work flawlessly as soon as you purchase it. Everything should be sanded and polished and finished before it reaches your hands

$80 is the mass-produced version. the hand-tuned-to-your-rifle version is $110.

Yeah right, I spend 30-60 mins stripping, polishing and tuning a mag to my rifle that I plan to use it with. Each mag must be tuned to the rifle and cartridge it's going to be used in. There's no other way around it.

Have a 110 ba 338 lapua and my AICS magazine it comes with was getting stuck all the time.. Watched your video noticed huge burrs on the plastic part and use a sharp knife to scrape them flat...works smooth as butter now. 3 years of frustration fixed in 2 mins ...Thanks!

the "sled" that comes in the bottom of accurate mags was a game changer when it came to solving my Valkyrie issues. keeping the last coil of that spring centered so it cant kick out and bind lets me fit 12 rounds in a standard mag.

I ordered 2 MDT metal aics magazines and they were completely different. One spring was stiff one was less stiff. The feed lips were different when I measured them. Now they are identical. I had to tweak the feed lips and now it feeds like butter.

I had some feed issues on my AICS rifle with AICS mags,it only took about 2 secs to figure out why it wouldn't feed, one of the feed lips looked like it had been damaged and bent in transit, a quick readjustment at the range with some pliers on a multi tool and it was fine, other than that never had an issue with AICS stuff, but will keep this in mind when I eventually strip and clean the magazine.

  • @bmghunter5966

Just had the feed issue with my new MDT mag. The first bullet of 5 always takes lots of effort to chamber, the feed lips grip too hard onto the brass with the strong spring tension. Subsequent cartridges feed better. I was planning to sand that feed lip already, great to see this is one of the tuning steps.

I have 3 Magpul AICS pattern mags for 2 different rifles (700 SA's 6 CM & 6x47 Lapua) and the last round always dives on all 3 (2 5's & a 10). Plus I will occasionally get pop-ups when the bolt is going home and I have to back off the bolt to get the round to chamber. I am now looking at MDT metal or metal/polymer mags.

Good video, we competition 1911 shooters have been picky about our mags forever. On another note, I just purchased a new Ruger American Predator in .223 that takes the AR mags, the mag well is very loose compared to my AR 15 riffles , as the bolt engages a round the mag tilt forward and causes the nose of the bullet to hit the feed ramp at a hard angle! Is there an after market fix for this loose Mag well?

  • @PRSKris
    @PRSKris 2 роки тому

I have to point mune slightly downwards or at least have them very flat for my Ruger American 6.5 creedmoor so it hits the feed ramp and doesn't slam into the bottom of the chamber

I have a recently purchased savage apex 110 in 223 caliber. Having lots of feed problems, apparently with the magazine?
About 50% of the time the bolt will not pick up the round from the magazine, other times it turns it sideways and jams.
I went to savage, they sent me a new magazine, same problem. Lots of suggestions out about bending the feed lips in or out. Any thoughts on that? Are tools available for that? Very frustrating.
This is a detachable box magazine. The fit in the firearm seems a bit sloppy

@@MCArmoryLLC while this is being suggested with no visuals of the problem, I would think the mag is either sitting too low (this would be an issue on more than just the first round) or your feed lips should be adjusted to let the rounds in the mag pitch a little more upward.

Hello: :::: I got new Ruger America 6.5 Creedmoor would NOT Feed. I called Ruger, they sent me Aics Magwell, I had to order Ruger Aics Magazine. I installed Aics Magwell loaded new Aics magazine. Nothing new, it still will NOT FEED. Now I am really pissed. When holding Mag. and push loaded shell out of mag. the shell actually drops downward. Now if I start grinding of some of front part that holds shell that might make shell rise. Or ruin a 40.00 Magazine. I fell this POS Gun is going down the road. I told guy at Ruger I may pass the problem to some one else, he said go ahead and trade it. Like he gave a rats ass. Ruger did train him, Right !!!
