- The city of Salta is located in northern Argentina and is the gateway to exploring the Andes mountains and the beautiful provinces of JuJuy and Salta. Salta is known for its empanadas, mountains, and rich history as the southern part of the Incan empire. It also has an affordable cost of living. These are the prices we've been seeing as retirement slow travelers during our time here.

What's the climate like there? Year around?
Hot and humid in the summer (unpleasantly so), in the winter, autumn and spring it's generally dry and cool at night but sunny and warm in the afternoon. So the weather is great most of the year, but unbearably scorching and humid in the summer, with lots of rain and electrical storms.
I also want to become a traveler... I don't what i do.. can u help me..
Curious about the difference in cost between Salta and BA…maybe 25% less expensive ?
I periodically move between both and the difference is between 30-50% and even in the top locations
All this is good as long as you have dollars or euros. For locals, the story is completely different (for the worst)
They could easily save in dollars using USDT (crypto).

With the current inflation and the low exchange rate. Is it still a good deal to be in Argentina? I'm not sure what will happen in the future, but at least for now, I dont see it worth it.
If you come to salta with cash it's really cheap to live here, the problem is if you use debit/credit cards bc the exchange rate will be affected by almost 50%. For example today (7/20/24) if you bring a 100 dollar bill to someone who makes exchanges, you will be paid 142000ars, but if you use an ATM you will get 69000ars and be taxed for foreign processing

I ve been in Salta only 2 weeks, what i have learned so far is to use my uk debit card whenever i can rather than take money from an ATM, there is a very low maximum limit from ATM with a high bank fee usually max 40,000 peso limit in one transaction with just over 9000p fee. Some places add a small fee for using a card but alot dont. If you need 200,000p the machine will cost you 5 x 9000 extra as fees.
Agreed that using ATMs in Argentina is not a great option. We either used our credit card or sent money to ourselves using Western Union.

So many Travel channels always push for see how cheap and affordable. It maybe for Tourists coming from Countries with higher wages and of course higher Prices. That really is not reflecting of how expensive or cheap a country is. Look California for example, it has most likely the highest paid Wages in America but also is very expensive. The Californians that move away to other States drive the costs of living in those states up, wayyy up and the destroy or at least hinder the Live of the native People who's wages are way lower .So don't brag how cheap things are, compare them with the wages of the People from the places you think are so cheap.
We understand there are a lot of issues around affordability and what might seem inexpensive to one person might be extremely unaffordable to someone else. We tried to address this in some of our other videos, but it is a complex topic, especially in Argentina, where the inflation is so high.
