It's a lost love/distance love song. It always was. Love over a distance is always tough. The need for the other while apart is DEEP. Years ago I was in the army and the times that my wife and I were apart were some of the hardest. Spanish (and later Spanglish) adds SO much beauty to the song. I don't understand the language, but their performance carried it through my ignorance - I KNEW what they were singing about. (It helps that I've been listening to this song since it came out my senior year)
I enjoyed your reaction- thanks! I had trouble hearing you though (volume on video was good but had trouble hearing you). The effect of Cesar and Ashley disappearing represented that they were looking back on good memories they had but they are no longer together. This video was filmed in the Oviedo mall where PattyCake Productions is located near Orlando Florida. It is a much older mall than the fancier tourist favored malls in Orlando so the arcade in this mall was a good 1980's vibe (Cesar did the costuming and such here). There was a cover of this song released as a duet in Spanish that was very popular in Puerto Rico where Ashley and Cesar grew up- I like their nod to that cover here as it was beautiful.
Yeah, it's implied that the arcade scenes are memories of good times past, and they're sad because they're no longer together.
Voiceplay released their new video on their Patreon Saturday. It is absolutely fantastic.
Be prepared for lots of low bass singing by Geoff being one of our favorite Disney villains.

I love the ambiance of the video arcade as the setting for falling in love (and then losing their way back to each other. Cesar and Ashley go back to their childhood's in Puerto Rico before their families pulled up stakes and moved to the Orlando area.
