You really have to appreciate how well the original builder built the thing. Some 6x6 conversions are all show, this was if it works whatever. This thing was probably done for spare change compared to some, but is already a badass unit for a starting point.
@Beau Mershon some were in the early 2000; it took us some time. The truck was passed through the family prior to us building it. The person who we bought it from got two DUI in 24 hr. He was running from the police slid off the road on the ice. He Hit a tree, He then tried to get it unstuck. The bumper hood radiator all damaged. tranny leaking all over the place. it was not a runner when we got it. Our intention was to hunt with it. We had several hunting buggies at the time. When we got all the work done to it, thats we found out that the tranny was bad. He didn't tell us it was bad, but later, we found out differently. For a small town shop we sunk a lot of money into it. The front end was rebuilt to accommodate the 35-inch tires. We were told by the 4x4 shop in our town that we could put the whole thing together with the 37. But later, we found out. That the gear ratio would not work. Our understanding is that if we didn't put the 35 on the front , we would blow the tranny or t-case. So the 4x4 shop, they reworked the front differential. Be careful with swapping tires. We have huge swamps up here. We did not plan on running it but in low range. We were told by the 4x4 shop that if we horses it up too much, we would smoke something. The old man, as he was referred to. Decided not to take it out. It just sat in the yard for about ten years. It was in the local parades a few times. I think it was the local paper. Everyone in town is new who built it. Have fun with it. It right know is the talk of the town. You might want to mention his name in the vidoe. He has about five hundred relatives in the here small town. He was well respected and well loved by many. He would help out a guy in the middle of the night In a rain storm.. ask me I know. His name was Danny Mahan love to build all kinds of stuff. We built over hundred boats in his shop. From fiber glass to aluminum. It's a complete metal fabrication shop. With breaks, plate shears, iron worker punches and ten different kinds of welding machines. Just to give you a backround.
Hockey puck body lift is remarkably common. They are good, high durometer, durable rubber. I do wish you guys would keep the bed, in some capacity though.
Pretty much before body lift kits were a thing this is how we did it and as mentioned already pucks are better and cheaper than what you buy as a "lift kit".
The puck lift is just a 90s thing. Cheap and worked. I'm from MN, many trucks were done with pucks. LOL! The Ranger is looking great! Thanks for sharing!
Great Build! Awesome camera work and editing! Enjoying this one a lot! These sponsored builds give you a whole Lotta leeway! As Always, May God Bless you and yours!
I don’t think they are going to long travel it, it’s a “pre-runner” aka just new widebody fenders, method wheels and bumpers. They bitched out on this one lmao
6x6 with half ass front ifs spiff axle.... kinda pointless, todo the work on ranger for one I’d make both rear locked with 6 wheel hydro steering lol but I don’t have the time for ranger
@@mikeyhue2437 the ttb is a desert proven ifs thats hard to beat in strength and travel. I'd definitely switch it out for a 44 ttb if they were to keep it and actually do a true pre runner build.
Growing up in Wisconsin and Minnesota as a kid it wasn't unheard-of to find an old pickup with a hockey puck lift. In the spring it was pretty easy to find a few free pucks after the snow melt. I almost did it with my jeep Comanche.
I have a buddy whose jet boat had a stack of hockey pucks on each side of the engine for motor mounts... sometimes you gotta go with what's readily available.
I lifted my Volvo 945 with hockey pucks in the rear, and in the front I cut and lengthened the struts. Back then I was one of a handful people who had lifted a Volvo, today it's become popular so there's a lot of people who have done it now. If it wasn't for inspections and laws here in Sweden I would've gone crazy and built a pre-runner out of it with doubled suspension travel and such.
This thing is gonna be bad ass !looking great already , all the parts look awesome on it , can’t wait to see the completed product ! nice work guys!👍🏼🤩💪🏼
I love seeing the things yous guys come up with half I’d love to own for myself and with your vids being as good as they are I’m sure I can pick up a few tips tricks and more along the way I can’t wait to start my first build Keep up the great work guys all love from Australia 🇦🇺
i thought i was the only one hoo got more excited about the fire starting material in the box then what i actually ordered. nice to know keep up with the cool shit love the vids
That’s what I was thinking, it’s not a prerunner without some crazy long travel. Coilovers and bypass shocks all around lol. I don’t think they’re going to do anything to the suspension unfortunately. I’d be surprised if they do.
I'm from Alaska and feel like mentioning we use a ton of hockey pucks for lifts and other what not. The front core support on my tuck is spaced with hockey pucks.
Lets face it, who wouldnt? Just the ATV's they got for sender build.. thats 6K€ around here. Amount of goodies they have, ou lord. My material piles pale in comparison. That aluminum plate from the fuel tank is pretty damn expensive.
Hockey puck body lifts were quite common. Back in the day we put them on a 79 Bronco. There was a lot of other lift. The hockey pucks gave us the little extra to make it the tallest in the area.
I'm a Canadian and I have used hockey pucks for lots of things. I literally gust put some under my air compressor for new rubber feet. They will last forever better then the old one's...
We used pucks back in the 80’s and 90’s for body lifts back in NH too. So much in fact, that if a store manager saw us with a bunch, they’d not sell them to us.
As a Canadian I can say my dads 89 Jeep Is lifted with Hockey Pucks and same with my 88 Chev but they Work great as a Inch thick spacer that's basically Poly Urethane, Legit cheap and works so good
Hockey pucks make great stiff bushings. Cab on our bobcat is sitting on some right now, stock bushings were completely shot and we weren't paying $90 a piece for replacements.
Hockey pucks body lifts have been around since the 70s that I know of.. We live in Florida and had to mail order and wait for them to arrive in the mail in 2-3 weeks back then... Northern boys just went to the sports store and grabbed a handful...

For sure! It was built very solidly in a lot of ways!
It was alot of work when my step dad and I built it. He has since passed.

I actually prefer pucks over the hard chunk of plastic they give you when you buy the kits.
I don't have a lift but I replaced my worn out cab mounts for just a little over 12 bucks 👌

came here to say the same thing about the hockey puck body lift.
y'all have been grinding especially hard lately, the stuff you guys have been putting out has been awesome!! keep it up!

Hockey pucks are a common way to do body lifts in Finland! Cheap, durable and offers a bit of vibration dampening
Prerunner rangers are cool, but I feel this would've been a lot cooler build as a crawler.
