I always feel happy that I love my own company and I don't have the desire to date seriously right now. I'm 34, I have been in a 9 and 10 year relationship. You nailed it Mel! People are winning professionally but losing in their personal life & marriages. Look at our divorce rate. The #1 problem is a failed relationship with ourselves. We need time to analyze & process to truly fix this before dating again & getting into another relationship so quickly.

I agree. For me, it took much, much longer, but so worth it. Mel is right. She has her career AND her kids. I think sometimes we're looking for someone to "complete" us. That's BS. We ARE complete. But you have to fly solo for a while to really get that. Also, the neurochemicals involved in sex literally blind us (emotionally) to our partner's faults during about the first 6 months of a relationship. Those neurochemicals also bind us to the partner, not just emotionally, but in a real physical way. That's why we physically yearn for them when we're apart.

Try a mobile nail salon. Any at home service. I know she went from mobile to a brick n mortar but, there could be a market for ppl that want that at home for a reasonable price.

This was a fun podcast to listen to tonight. I literally took a pile of paperwork from my car accident, and turned it into a stack of labeled file folders. The car accident was a year ago, and I seriously need to get it closed so I can get a final check and buy a new car. 🤣
Unpopular opinion, but I just felt Mel didn't need to go so hard about her personal life. The "let them" theory should have been pulled into practise here. If she asks for advice cool, but she didn't in that moment so it should have been left alone. I wish I heard more about her business and less "tough love" her about her dating choices

I used to get my hair blown out at Drybar in Buckhead (Atlanta) back in 2014 - 2017. It was next door to Flywheel, the former cycling and barre studio. Those were the days.
Alle- I agree, go at the pace is good for you. However, a rock nugget to keep in your pocket, why a lotta people say a year not arbitrarily. Relationships& those patterns, it’s like an addiction. You’re almost scared of the void of independence because emotionally you’ve had someone there. As someone who has struggled with that in the past, people aren’t blowing smoke at you. They really aren’t. 12mo is a good gauge point. Sure, could be shorter. Often though, for healing, it’s a little longer. It’s not the time restraint or restrictions that are the defining factor of how long it takes. It’s the emotional growth rate that dictates. Either way- You’re a badass& I can’t wait to consume the book. Probs in an audio form.

While I agree with the advice you gave Alli about taking some time for herself before getting back out into the dating scene, I have to wonder if you would give the same advice to a man in a similar situation.
Ali should have been more open that her brother had been the VP at Yahoo Finances and helped secure her $250k+ to open her first Brentwood, Cali blowout bar, which including an architect to create the aesthetic that would be branded to all dry bars. As they say team work makes the dream work, but when you don’t have the privilege to finance a startup with that type of financial backing. I heard Ali speak live at FounderMade in NYC in 2018 which is how I know. I wish I had her brother! ☺️
As I like to remind myself on a regular basis (and others as well, LOL)... the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result! 💥
Mel was right to go after Alli for her persistance to get into new relationships. It became more and more obvious trough her past actions that she is just trying to bury her own insecurities trough being in a relationship. And Mel figured it out. Lying to your first husband, knowingly, yet staying married, that's a huge red flag. Then a new person just a few months after, a spark of passion. Again, it's well known sparks never really last, that it's about hiding a hurt or fulfilling a selfish need. Alli parading her new husband to people shows that she didn't actually care how that would affect him mentally at all. Red flag after red flag. She is actually a very toxic person and possibly a narcissist. And there's probably little chance that she will change. She can't stay alone, with herself, which is a key to solving your own insecurities and stop using other people as bandaids. I praise Alli for being open about it at least. My hope is people are able to recognize a toxic person when they hear them speak these things.
I don’t think this 51 minute edited interview could possibly you enough insight into this woman to label her as a toxic narcissist. That is so judgmental and presumptuous to say the least. She allowed herself to be open and vulnerable which revealed only that she is a work in progress who hadn’t figured it all out yet; like most of us.

Success in the great dry bar story. Yes! Relationship no... If i could warn the next guy to heed caution I would. We could all learn from mistakes but if you are ready to move on this fast for the penetrating experience Stop There! You are dealing with the emotional heart and mind. Line up your head and heart with God and make longterm goals. Slowdown, abstain from momentary sexual gratification and spare the next men from getting tangled in your web of confusion. Be responsible and do your personal growth and soul searching first. . I'm 65 and listening to you makes me nervous, don't project your invisible scars on innocence. There are red flags waving all around you. Listen to Mel, you need some self love and self respect and self balance first. If you don't spend time with yourself my next question is, are you a narcissist? Narcisists do not do therapy and if they do they fake it. How are your children doing? Do they have a Mom?
Truly inspirational story. However, what the dickens is a "blow out"? I've had a blow out in a tyre, but hairdressing? I even went to the website, and still a little confused. Is this a hairdressing business? I know blow drying is part of the service, but this is where the confusion comes in. Anytime someone goes to a hairdresser here in New Zealand, everything is priced beforehand and blow drying is part of it. Hair stylists also do the whole thing as far as I know. Also, the website mentions "gratuities" I assume that is tipping. Very different from here and other countries where tipping isn't a culture. To me this would defeat the "exact price" model. However obviously it works in the USA, but I can't see how tipping sits along the guaranteed price. What about just adding a percentage to the listed price and skip the tipping? It's always amazed me that the USA has the tipping culture. Surely it doesn't promote a fabulous customer service relationship. How does this work? Is tipping a choice in your business? At the end of the day. although I am a thoroughly confused Kiwi, the business obviously works exceptionally well. Congratulations to Alli for her passion and enthusiasm. If you dont care about hurting yourself at least think about the people who get hurt as a result of not taking the time to heal and learn who you are.

I think she could have used more of you kindness & encouragement instead of reprimands & unwarranted advice while being put on the spot. Hopefully this won't permanently affect your relationship but a repair might be in order, and an apology. Not to us necessarily. ❤

Unpopular opinion, but I just felt Mel didn't need to go so hard about her personal life. The "let them" theory should have been pulled into practise here. If she asks for advice cool, but she didn't in that moment so it should have been left alone. I wish I heard more about her business and less "tough love" her about her dating choices

It’s because the blow out is like the birds when they’re giving the bonding time to each other it’s special and it also makes stuff in the neural network develop plastic gives hormone like chemical releases And your hair it’s got a lot of sensitivity inside like birds with feathers so are used to notice as well when I went to go get my hair done I used to always go in there very tense and leave actually like I’m falling asleep because I got so relaxed in my hair being done
Dear Allie, please consider loving Allie before you go find another man. Heal that little girl Allie, Mel is right. You need more than a year. We ALL like to have a partner.. duh. But you will NEVER get the right partner if you fail to love yourself and heal your soul from any past hurts. I used to get my hair blown out at Drybar in Buckhead (Atlanta) back in 2014 - 2017. It was next door to Flywheel, the former cycling and barre studio. Those were the days.
Alle- I agree, go at the pace is good for you. However, a rock nugget to keep in your pocket, why a lotta people say a year not arbitrarily. Relationships& those patterns, it’s like an addiction. You’re almost scared of the void of independence because emotionally you’ve had someone there. As someone who has struggled with that in the past, people aren’t blowing smoke at you. They really aren’t. 12mo is a good gauge point. Sure, could be shorter. Often though, for healing, it’s a little longer. It’s not the time restraint or restrictions that are the defining factor of how long it takes. It’s the emotional growth rate that dictates. Either way- You’re a badass& I can’t wait to consume the book. Probs in an audio form.

While I agree with the advice you gave Alli about taking some time for herself before getting back out into the dating scene, I have to wonder if you would give the same advice to a man in a similar situation.
Mel, thank you for asking her why she had to be in a relationship! It may well be that she should take a break from dating for at least a year.
Ali should have been more open that her brother had been the VP at Yahoo Finances and helped secure her $250k+ to open her first Brentwood, Cali blowout bar, which including an architect to create the aesthetic that would be branded to all dry bars. As they say team work makes the dream work, but when you don’t have the privilege to finance a startup with that type of financial backing. I heard Ali speak live at FounderMade in NYC in 2018 which is how I know. I wish I had her brother! ☺️
40 bucks with the gas at $6+ a gallon, in the LA traffic, wouldnt be worth it.

As I like to remind myself on a regular basis (and others as well, LOL)... the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result! 💥
Mel was right to go after Alli for her persistance to get into new relationships. It became more and more obvious trough her past actions that she is just trying to bury her own insecurities trough being in a relationship. And Mel figured it out. Lying to your first husband, knowingly, yet staying married, that's a huge red flag. Then a new person just a few months after, a spark of passion. Again, it's well known sparks never really last, that it's about hiding a hurt or fulfilling a selfish need. Alli parading her new husband to people shows that she didn't actually care how that would affect him mentally at all. Red flag after red flag. She is actually a very toxic person and possibly a narcissist. And there's probably little chance that she will change. She can't stay alone, with herself, which is a key to solving your own insecurities and stop using other people as bandaids.
I praise Alli for being open about it at least. My hope is people are able to recognize a toxic person when they hear them speak these things.
I don’t think this 51 minute edited interview could possibly you enough insight into this woman to label her as a toxic narcissist. That is so judgmental and presumptuous to say the least. She allowed herself to be open and vulnerable which revealed only that she is a work in progress who hadn’t figured it all out yet; like most of us.
I’ve been wanting to try Drybar in Gilbert AZ. I guess I assumed they didn’t wash just styled.

If i could warn the next guy to heed caution I would. We could all learn from mistakes but if you are ready to move on this fast for the penetrating experience Stop There! You are dealing with the emotional heart and mind. Line up your head and heart with God and make longterm goals. Slowdown, abstain from momentary sexual gratification and spare the next men from getting tangled in your web of confusion. Be responsible and do your personal growth and soul searching first. .
I'm 65 and listening to you makes me nervous, don't project your invisible scars on innocence. There are red flags waving all around you. Listen to Mel, you need some self love and self respect and self balance first. If you don't spend time with yourself my next question is, are you a narcissist? Narcisists do not do therapy and if they do they fake it. How are your children doing? Do they have a Mom?
Truly inspirational story. However, what the dickens is a "blow out"? I've had a blow out in a tyre, but hairdressing? I even went to the website, and still a little confused. Is this a hairdressing business? I know blow drying is part of the service, but this is where the confusion comes in. Anytime someone goes to a hairdresser here in New Zealand, everything is priced beforehand and blow drying is part of it. Hair stylists also do the whole thing as far as I know.
Also, the website mentions "gratuities" I assume that is tipping. Very different from here and other countries where tipping isn't a culture. To me this would defeat the "exact price" model. However obviously it works in the USA, but I can't see how tipping sits along the guaranteed price. What about just adding a percentage to the listed price and skip the tipping? It's always amazed me that the USA has the tipping culture. Surely it doesn't promote a fabulous customer service relationship. How does this work? Is tipping a choice in your business?
At the end of the day. although I am a thoroughly confused Kiwi, the business obviously works exceptionally well. Congratulations to Alli for her passion and enthusiasm. Amazing story of breaking through the business barrier.
