Brilliant video. My 4 year old Labradoodle, so like her, calmer after a crazy run round the garden. He’s very strong, Nose to the ground pulling most of the time. Will use the slip lead again. Same as others, was told by trainers incorrectly how to use it. Will report on progress as have to get my partner to watch too as he does the morning walk which is longer and faster than mine. Thank you, Thank you. 🙏
I really like how you showed the proper way to put a slip lead on. A different dog trainer said to put in centered on the back of the head, but it never worked for me. Positioning it behind the ear is so much better! Thank you!
What a brilliant video! Like your work ! From Belgium it’s a litle far but I will use this advice to start using the leash on our cocker of 1 year old . Keep up the good work

What a masterclass! I'm trying to get this right with my 2 months old puppy. He's still very small so it's quite challenging to have him in the heel position 😅 but he is smart and already understands lead pressure
I did train my staffy pup. I did most of it when she was hungry and used her feed it worked a charm indoors at first with no lead. She is nearly 1 now and doing so well I can take her almost anywhere
Great video, going to put this all in place with our 7m old Doberman. We are working well but find when we go out in public it all falls apart and he just gets over excited and low attention span
Brilliant explanation I will have to wait 2 more months until I start with the slip lead for my Vizsla, it can't come soon enough. In the mean time we are having good fun off lead.
This was an excellent video. My GSD pulls & barks a lot whenever she sees other dogs & people when out. It’s a real pain. I’ve tried so many different leads & collars. I tried a slip but was told on my 1st attempt using it that it was an “advanced training tool” & that I shouldn’t use it. I feel much more confident trying it again after watching & learning these steps. Do you have any advice about passing by people when out walking if the dog’s barking? Thank you x
Any tips for an 10 m.o intact male who understands leash pressure (have been training like this in low distraction environments for 2 weeks and he knows what he needs to do) but ignores it to sniff and scent all the time? Have incorporated a go sniff command to try and make it so that he is only allowed to do it when I allow, and sometimes this works but when training progresses he gets bored of listening and would rather sniff (he has excellent food drive but will ignore for sniffing when REALLY distracted)
What an absolute masterclass, Thanks for posting the video I've tried a slip lead a few times and tbh its me that failed now I know how to implement it properly, Thankyou, Quick question ff I may... My 3yo Border collie isn't food motivated at all and 95% of the time will turn her nose up at any treat and will only eat at meal times how would you reward a dog like her instead of high value rewards?
@@ianmillard59 @southenddogtraining1 Thanks for the reply Ian I really appreciate the advice but our Collie doesn't respond to food at all. Fasting doesn't motivate her food drive at all no matter what is offered, I tried this repeatedly when she was a pup on and off for months as this was the advice from a local trainer but it never worked she would happily go hungry and only have an interest in food at her meal time, ie after her evening walk. I've never had a dog like this before and would like her to engage with me a lot more and be easier to train but I'm at a loss on how to get her to click and listen to me although she is a good dog and never runs off has a great temperament and is very social with other dogs and humans she even lays down at kerbs and waits for her command before crossing and does her green cross code but I would like her to have a better recall instead of sitting and waiting for me to approach her. She is quite spoilt as we live in a remote rural location and only one of her 3or 4 main walks a day is on lead. please any advice on how to approach a dog like this for training would be helpful.
Would you recommend this for Dachshunds? The hand holding lead isn't going to be near their head (not without major backache) and are they too small, lightweight for the lead type?
How do you teach a dog to not bark at people while off the lead and at a distance? Recall is great, which I praise her for, but don’t know how to discipline at a distance Thank you
Wish you guys were closer my 6mth old sprocker is an alfuw puller I've tried everything i can think off even payed a "trainer" to help didn't work 🤦♀️
My rescue is from Mexico. I have had 3 other rescues from that area. This one is has had a very hard life! He was skin and bones when rescued. He is around 5-6 yrs old. 50lb. He was rescued and in a rescue organization, for about a year. In that time, he was hassled by other dogs his size. He would get away from them and go lay in a bed. They would bully him out of there also. So he moved in with the puppies. He has been there for 1 year. Now I have a dog that pulls horrible on a leash, barks at all dogs, growls at mostly dogs his size or larger). But his tail. Wags. I am so scared of what he might do. I am not a young person, and I have absolutely no training in dog behaviour. I am not going to give him away, my other dog who is 30lb is a senior, she is fine, but I cant socialize him, because I am afraid of dog fights. I live in a small town, the dog trainers here want so much money to train, and I don’t have any money. How can I fix this up? Thank you
@@dsd-downshiftdave8056I have literally tried everything, prong, e collar, slip lead, gentle leader. There is something fundamentally wrong with my dog. He is a cocker spaniel and not my first dog. Although he is the first one I cannot take for a walk. Unfortunately he doesn't respond like other dogs. When he sees something that is upsetting to him he will fixate on it and nothing I mean literally nothing can snap him out of it. It happened a couple times that I fell over him because he moved so frantically and I accidentally kicked him hard while trying to catch myself. He didn't even flinch, kept his eye on his target and didn't stop screaming. In the last couple months I haven't taken him for any walks because it is a traumatic experience for the both of us I think. He behaves well inside the home (apart from the fact he is ALWAYS in hyper alert mode). I try to play many games with him in the house so he isn't bored out of his mind but it is just so sad because I LOVE walking and we live in such a pretty area but we cannot enjoy it together. None of my previous dogs were like this. I mostly had bigger dogs and also a chihuahua. I never had a problem with any of them. I trained all of them myself and I could take them anywhere, they were so good. This boy tho...... he is here to test me and I am failing :(
There are sooo many videos with trainers like this that don’t take in account dogs like my working cocker who won’t train with kibble. Also they always have a dog that is a handy height so they don’t have to keep bending down to feed. My WCS is a year old and is ok sometimes but still needs a lot of work, these trainers are infuriating
Now, can you get the owner to do it? We know most dog trainers can train dogs pretty easily; it's getting the owner to do it consistently and you have to get buy in from them. Otherwise, they'll revert back to their old ways or the dog doesn't get walked. How do you make it so the owner actually wants to practice? In the house, in the backyard, in the driveway - they have to earn their way on the walk. Proactive stops - do they stop when you do? No, then they're not ready for another step fwd yet. Had an instructor who spent an entire week in her driveway going back and forth with a cigar of string cheese hanging out of her mouth. The neighbors were even laughing at her. Guess what, they're not laughing anymore because she can take that Rottweiler anywhere and he never wants to leave her side. A whole week is nothing in the grand scheme of things - put in the work up front and it pays dividends later. Hope that helps.
Yes the owner was able to fine before they went home. This was a free session so we could film it, hence why we wasn't interacting with the owner during the recording.
I really respect your dog training videos, each to their own training techniques but this is not a really good technique to walk your dog/or how to stop your dog to pull. By you draining that puppies energy you are making her more excited than she already is. The whole point of dog walking and how to stop dog pulling is to make sure your dog is calm and relaxed.

What are your thoughts on front harness for pulling training and prong collars- what about for running with the dog

If you fast the dog for 24hrs then use they're normal food that will boast there food drive

Brilliant..any tips on walking 2 dogs beside you at the same time? Cheers

This may help you, Two dog lead walking with 1 oh our trainers Aaron
Wish i would have seen this 5 months ago
Interested that you dont ask the dog to look at you before moving on after stopping? We were told to do this.welcome your opinion thanks
We call this The Art Of Attention and teach this as a default behaviour (not covered in this video)
What is this toy you are using?
