Former craft store employee at a store very similar to Michael's. Since we're not that far after Christmas, the cinnamon smell was probably from scented pine cones they like to sell at the holidays. Like glitter is known as crafting herpes, that cinnamon smell will linger for a while after the season. At least no one minds the smell of cinnamon, but they always comment if you are also working as a security guard covered in glitter. It's hard to look tough when you sparkle.
this is the explanation I was looking for
clearly not enough glitter was used
Of course, if *only* the *skin* glitters, you know the security guards are Twilight vampires. :D :D :D
@@NomadOfNorad It's been several years since I worked either of those jobs, but Twilight was a big thing when I was working them. The security job was night shift at a hospital. If we were called in for a person acting out, and they asked why I sparkled, that's what I'd tell them. Worked great to distract and calm Karen-y moms and scared teenage girls.
@@FlanylShirtman oh man, i wish i could see their reactions 😂😂😂
Metal Wall Panel - Straightening Tip - lay it face down on a piece of flat wood like a sheet of ply. Then get a piece of 4x2 and your hammer and put the 4x2 on the dent and then tap on the 4x2 with the hammer. Keep moving around the 4x2 over the dent while hitting with the hammer on the 4x2 and the dent should go flat. Put the 4x2 upright, sideways or lying flat depending on what you think is best to do for that particular part of the dent or bumps.
So does this mean Paul has his own universe?
Pro Tip: Next time when hanging shelves use a strip of painters tape to mark where the holes go on the shelves and then place it on the wall. Keeps you from having to hold the shelf and level at the same time.
Great tip Josh! and yes, we all have our own universes from my understanding
Hey Paul! New Faux plants have their foliage pointed up to save the retailer shelf space. You can bend the stems out similar to fluffing a faux Christmas tree. Curving the plants’ stems outward will make them look more realistic. Great décor choices btw!
Cool, thanks for the tip!
real fiddle leaf figs have their leaves pointed up... they look okay the way it is...
man i love this new logo, sure brings me back to my younger days
love the upgrades! really starting to feel like your space again, I miss the garage setup, you could really tell it was your space then. But now its really starting to fill out and feels like you again. I look forward to seeing the new setup mature over time.
The set upgrades & fixes look great! Well done Paul & Joe 👍
Watching you tackle these projects like they ain't no thing like a chicken wing on a string brings me great calmness. These things would stress me out mad style and have me trapped by my own OCD at the end.
12:05 - yay for Home Assistant! Be careful or you'll get addicted to incorporate every device in your office.
When I put up foam panels in my game room I bought black poster board. I then glued the panels to the poster board using regular Elmer school glue. That gave some freedom in adjusting them a bit for alignment before the glue cured. I then pinned the boards to the wall with thumb tacks. A similar approach may work for you also in getting better alignment. Keep up the great content, also the beer recommendations!
Yay, work log! These have always been my favorite. 😁
remember Paul, even "fake" plants require attention too... DUSTING!!!
maybe Joe can do that
@@paulshardware hmmm.. potentially "additive" for job description... higher PAY allowed???
Yes you have to remember to pretend watering them once a week
If there is a climatisation system, use the setting to have a higher pressure inside than outside.
@@paulshardware Rekt 🤣
Idea. On the wall control panels, use a scuff pad and scuff up the panels well, clean and dry completely, then use Rustoleum Custom Matte Black. Will take the reflection off and limit the visual imperfections.
LOVE THE SET, CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT VIDEO!! 👍👍👍👍
Nice job Paul. These kinds of setup videos are my favorites.
suggest "adding" LED lights behind the board, at the center of each cube, and provide the alternating "blinking effect" like the ancient computer of the '60s TV science fiction/fantasy shows... also, for a "live" plant, put in a small speaker below the pot edge... program it with "FEED ME!!!"
Throw my vote in to see more about your HomeAssistant setup! I've been running it for a while now, and would enjoy seeing how you got the RGB working!
To hide the imperfections of the foam board edges, I suggest to mount the foam panels on a piece of dark grey paper/wood/whatever backing that is ever so slightly larger than the size of the entire chunk of foam panels.
That aside, the framing of the shot at 16:00 feels weird with the top edge of the foam board being at a weird angle compared to the frame of the video and corner of the ceiling and the pegboard.
I love Home assistant, I have it running in my unRAID server and it controls all my smart things
Looking good! I might suggest taking a larger backer behind the foam board so you see straight edges all around.
you can put a black tape or somethink like that behind the acoustic panel where the foam meets to get rid of the backlight bleeding through the gaps, also trim the edges where they pop ou a little to make it all aligned would be nice
I am so glad you fixed the acoustic panel! I noticed the lower left offset tile during the build video and it's all I've seen since
Oh no, now it's top right! haha. Still jealous of your office and your job. Keep it up!
Love the update!
That acoustic foam behind you needs a giant thumbscrew logo on it.
from watching both Kyle channel and your channel Paul, all I can say is "Awesomesauce, Excellent" office setup
Tho only thing i love at Michael's that i use constantly in my builds or any electronics projects, are the black foam sheets letter size with adhesive in back. Great in keyboards, under speakers, etc...
Great job on the original build-out and upgrades!
Looks great
NEW INTRO, damn that is badass!!
build-out vlogs like this are fun. teamwork makes the dream work! place is looking sharp.
Heck yeah- looks fantastic. Nice work!
You could use a baffle in the lights in the ceiling to stop the light from washing out RGB just a suggestion, Looks great!
Next time you fix your acoustic panel try to leave even a little more slack for the LED strips on the corners (so there's a noticeable bulge with a couple diodes in it). This should pump the corners of the lighting up a bit for a more consistent glow.
Looks great! You two are a well oiled machine. Very cool!
Nice and tastefully done. Looking good!
I like your(you &Joe's) videos DIYing stuff at the office. Gives me inspiration on what I can do on my home office as well. Always something that can be done better. Thank you guys. God bless!
This is so cozy and chill. May your new studio and tools bring you many many great moments.
For more convenient and powerful control of the LEDs, you could look into something like WLED running on a DigUno. It’s a pretty awesome little setup that I’ve used several times. And I always hate those little RF remotes.
Love the new Intro Paul! :D
Looks great Paul
That's a very soothing space.😌
Love these videos
Some great ideas.
thank you for the awesome vid
Have you thought about mounting the power brick for the panel LEDs to the back of the panel, and using a wire channel down the wall to hide the wire?
I'm just happy to see that Data still has a place of honor in the set. It harkens back to the OG days of the channel!
Excellent team work you two have!!
Really nice Paul and Joe! Yeah, good improvements, I like baby plant the most.
Thanks for the update, looking pretty snazzy.
I've been enjoying home assistant for a couple months now and it's amazing. Would be cool to see some more HA content.
Looking real sharp Paul! Good job guys!
I loved this video. I like when you make this kind of video as I feel it's a nice break to have from the normal videos you make from time to time. Keep making them from time to time and I will keep enjoying them. :)
This is the coolest video you've done in a while, what an epic! More obscure tech please! Also felt the perfect length and not a rushed shoot like some videos have felt recently.
Thank you Paul, your vlogs are always fun and most excellent indeed.
If you're drilling holes in walls put an envelope below stuck with masking tape. Better than vacuum and you can keep moving to each new hole. Have you thought about getting your logo printed on acoustic cloth then building a panel containing sound absorption materials like rock wool or sheep wool insulation.
Absolutely down for the home assistant/NAS configuration. Looking good keep it up!
Wall control panels are amazing. I have six in my woodshop
I love this update, Paul. I may just steal some of your ideas for my own workspace ie. that metal peg board, I really like that. The handy little shelves, nice...
For me it'll have to wait until I move because I just finished fixing all my holes in the walls from my previous setup and repainting for the impending listing of my house for sale. I'm hoping for a bigger office wherever we end up, mine is a decent size but doesn't lend itself well to a geek like me with too much stuff that I want to be able to display etc... 😂
Just connect white extensions and route the cable to the ceiling, that way it would be off camera.
Or use the magic word, cablechannels^^.
the office space is looking good Paul. yes can't wait for the video on the home assistant and NAS build for the office
Your such a handy dad. Done is always better than perfect, love the video Paul.
I could watch you do this stuff all day long Paul! It's very ZEN like to me 😎😎
Just a side note and tip, don’t use your regular house hold vacuum for drywall dust. It can damage it. I know it’s only a small amount but I wouldn’t want my Dysons lifespan shortened. Any shop vac works be fine. So just get a small budget one for stuff like that 🙂
Looks Great! You have my dream setup 😆
Looks good that you can pan out more now. Excellent!
Cool !
I love how classy all your setup and videos have been with a tip of the hat to cost consciousness!
Nice relaxing viewing while I sort my mail order out, also I've just started my 'Phase 2', 4 years after I moved in to my unit.
Thanks for years of videos paul.
An update to home assistant would be cool!
Set looking good Paul. Please keep doing update videos :)
I love the office setup videos!
love the new space, but to be honest, I feel your garage space is what made it unique
"Plants.. Plants... Several plants..." This is so silly and I cracked up I don't know why LOL
I really like these videos.
That set up looks awesome Paul. Might take some of this as inspiration for my home gaming office. Great content as always!
the bottom right square is still so off alignment its comically great haha i dont know how you can see that and be ok with it but still looks gr.... you did a go.... glad your happy man
awesome
You're awesome Paul!
If you put down a layer of painters tape on the cable first, you'll be able to remove the hot glue later, should you decide to reposition it, sell it, etc.
Love the Wera screwdriver! I mean the LTT ones are cool too, but I'm an industrial automation mechanic and Wera is one of my favorite tool brands. They also stand out against all the other mechanics with Craftsman, Kobalt and Husky tools. No one can take my tools and pretend they didn't know.
Yay!
Honestly I've missed the warmth of your last setup. This makes it feel more like home! Well done. :)
Paul, if concerned about the panel alignment, you could attach a frame to the white panel that bounds the outer edge of the foam. A frame that is more rigid than the foam would create a straight edge (if done well).
you know those walls are hollow, you can totally route the wires in the wall and use outlet covers, they come in all kinds of configurations.
I'd just wrap the outer edge in trim to smoosh all the bits that don't line up perfectly into shape and hide the imperfections.
Use that spray can glue on the edges of the foam to stick them together directly, then apply the sheet to the backing board the same way. Will suck to get it off again if needed, but if you line everything up right the first time, it will be the last time you need to do it too.
Also if you do this, measure the backing board and mark the back of the foam for easier alignment.
you did the thing, and the internet is happy.
GG guys. GG
yay a studio build vlog!
Yes on the Home Assistant!
It's always a good time tuning into the Paul's Hardware channel :)
I put home assistant back on a pi and stashed it in my server rack... still haven’t received my zwave dongle from Amazon yet. I plan to replace my smart things hub eventually and migrate my smart home over. I have tons of devices and it will take some time and planning. More home assistant tutorials in my future.
that chair looks nice man!
I always like set videos.
The other respectable positive to adhering your led strip to the wood frame - unless something happens to the wood you can transfer it, in the event that you need or wish to replace the foam front. Nice update man - black pegboard is nice thing which I've never wondered about.. wonderfully tidy! I support the use of artificial plants around electrics and Joe's use of the vacuum cleaner was inspirational!
Wall Control make some cool stuff.
Very nice :).
Love to see that Wera bottle opener!
Awwww I can see Gina's embroidery on the set!! Loving all the merch she got me for xmas too, lots of compliments on the 8-bit color hoodie!
I can say I've never even looked at the wall behind you, I just tune in for the info and the beer 😁
Looks great. Maybe a plant on the other side to keep it symmetrical?
Very cool content! Ty guys glhf fam
P s. Yes please on the follow up vid.
