How do you plan to be able to catch the Barker Bark? When do they decide to do their salute? I'd love to catch it some time but don't know how to get the opportunity!
We track the ships location with the Marine Traffic app. After that there are certain variables which lead to whether or not there will be a Barker Bark. First off is whether or not Captain Newland is onboard. If it is his time to be off the ship, chances are there will be no Barker Bark. Next is the location. Rotary Park in Sault Ste. Marie is a common place for the Barker Bark based on family and friends of the Captain being present at the park. The last thing to have an impact is the time of day. A passage in the middle of the night doesn’t include salutes. That being said, just because it is dark out doesn’t mean there won’t be a salute as the daylight hours get shorter during the shipping season. Hope all this helps!
