Thank you for the video. I wasn’t sure if pavers would crack under the weight of a filled hot tub or not, opposed to a concrete pad.

I've got a paved area outside to put my hottub onto. AFTER I get people to get it off the trailer it's been sitting on over the last few months! (Problem number 1).
Now I'm wondering as a possible problem number 2 because of the huge amount of rain we've had for months over winter in Australia, is it safe to put the hottub straight onto the pavers?
When it rains hard for a long period, will that water start rotting the base of the hottub wooden floor & surrounding support?
I certainly don't want this to happen.
Do I need to place something under the hottub first, or raise it a little? Really worried about this.
Hope you can reply to me asap. Many thanks. Great channel & I've subbed.

I have a 2 person Hot Tub on a small deck. The deck has about a 2” slope over 6’. Is it ok to put a 2/6 under the one side of the tub it’s entire length to get it closer to level? Then maybe a 1/6” beside that board to give another support. It’s then resting on these boards instead of the deck. Thoughts?

EZ Pads are a good fix as well. Way better than direct gravel placement, and way cheaper than pouring a concrete base. Lifetime guarantee also. There are a few more manufacturers as well, with the same warranty.

Cool! Have you used them yourself?
      Thanks for the tip.

@@HotTubOwnerHQ Yes, and they make subgrading easier as well because they "bridge-over" imperfections in a pea gravel base. Easy to clean, as well. Checked out a few companies, decided on this one because it was easier to get the info I needed on their website. We were looking at a concrete base, but the cost and permanence were detractors.

@@Romany1111 EZ pads is the way to go. I will however have leveling sand under Home Depot Brock black polypropylene paver base panels that will be under the EZ pads. EZ pads have to purchased directly from manufacturer.

I built a nice section off my deck. Used 6 inches of rock, then 2-3 inches of paver fine gravel. Once all done, I have an 1/8 - 1/4 difference from side to side. Is that ok or should I drain it and remove the pavers to make it more level?

I had a similar side to side difference between my wooden deck and concrete pad. About 90% of the tub sits on the concrete pad. The quarter inch difference has not caused a problem in three years. The tub installer also concurred because I had him look at it before setting the tub.

So dont slope it for rainfall? Wont rain build up on the pavers?

How can I place the hot tub over a gravel base without shifting or moving the gravel underneath it.
My hot tub is about 6.2'x6.2'. And all I have to place it over the base is me and 2 of my family's.
Any advice to how to push it or move it over the gravel without shifting it underneath it???

The best way, and how I've seen it done with pro hot tub movers, is to slide it on it's side on a large, thick, plastic sheet, and get it where next to where you want it, and then lay it on it's back. There will be some minor adjusting you'll have to do, but you shouldn't have to slide it far.
If you do move too much of the gravel and the hot tub becomes un-level, you'll want to rent a large pry bar from Home Depot and lift up the low end while someone else adjusts the gravel under it.

What do you recommend if I already have a section of my patio that has pavers down but those ones aren’t quite level but I don’t really want to rip them up as it will disrupt the rest of the patio. Any alternative options?

I have the same situation. And, they slope away from the house. A slope of about 3.5 inches over 8 feet. So, I'm building a level platform, 8' x 8', out of 2x4's, 12 inches on center. I'll cover it with 3/4" plywood, 2" foil-faced foam board insulation, and 1/2" foam gym floor tiles.
Best of luck with your project.

I have just bought a new hottub not yet delivered. The site has about 3/4 of an inch fall. Is that OK or should I get it perfectly level.

      Hi Anthony
I had one at my last house that was off by that amount. I didn't have any real issues, but knowing what I know now, I would probably and get it a little bit more level if you can.
It's tedious for sure, but once you get it, it's done!
      Thanks for being here!

We are looking to buy a hot tub. We have never owned one. Enjoying your channel. So far I’ve learned to call an electrician first, than need to extend our patio if we decide to put the hot tub off our small deck. Wondering about finding a Quiet hot tub since it’s going to be 3 feet from the living room. What questions do we ask about noise levels? So far two showrooms we’ve been to have empty hot tubs in showroom. Is there a minimum distance from the house that you recommend? What’s the thickness of the cement base/ pavers for the pad? Also we were told salt water hot tubs will corrode the mechanics ... is that true?

Hi Jean. Great questions! I've never owned a salt water hot tub so I can't speak to that specifically other than to say the salt water hot tubs and add-on salt water generators generally have really good reviews, so it doesn't quite make sense to me. Plus the amount of salt used is minuscule compared to ocean water. Lastly, the salt water generator converts the salt into chlorine, so again, I find it hard to really buy into that. Most likely it's a hot tub salesman who doesn't sell salt water hot tubs saying that.
I've used regular 12" square pavers before that worked just fine. I don't have them in front of me, but seems like those are about 2" thick. My current hot tub is on a deck, which does amplify the noise.
Probably 6-10" would be about right if you're doing concrete.
3' is great for getting inside during winter when you've had a dip. My hot tub is probably 8 feet from our bedroom door/window and mine is a little noisy. I can hear it when the filter cycles on if I'm laying in bed and the TV isn't on. In fact, I'm planning to do a video soon where I try and make it quieter (still trying to figure that out).
If you end up putting it on a deck, and haven't already, so watch my video on hot tubs on decks as you definitely want to make sure it's reinforced unless it will be less than 2 feet off the ground. Here's the link to that if you need it - ua-cam.com/video/ZYw8sV-Gd5s/v-deo.html
On the noise levels, you really would want to hear it, so I might keep looking if the showrooms don't have a full one you can hear. But you could ask about the insulation type and amount.
There are 4 ways most hot tubs get insulated, so here are the 4 in order of worst to best:
      Partial foam insulation
      Full foam insulation
      Barrier insulation
      FiberCor insulation
      Multi-density foam
So I would ask which type the ones you're looking at use, and at least steer clear of any that are just Partial foam insulation.
      Hope that helps! Good luck.
      Jeff

Hot Tub Owner HQ Thank you so much for replying. Our deck is more of a stoop than a deck. It’s 5’x11’ so just enough room to open the double screen doors. Not enough room for a a hot tub. Maybe we can build up the dirt portion w gravel and put a pad on top. Just too bad we need permits here to extend the patio and the areas I want it is half grass half Patio.
Is there a link to a list of questions to ask when buying hot tubs? Types of jets - water vs air. Insulation, filters, and minimum power we should look for?
