- Duskmourn has been running wild through Mtg Arena for the last two days, and I've played close to 20 hours of Magic in that short time, which has left me impressed by a bunch of different cards I've tried, and even more impressed by what I've seen across the table from me! Today, we'll look at the 5 cards that have exceeded my expectations the most in the first couple of days of DSK Standard!

Well, we’re not interested in what’s going to make our decks shittier. I’m mostly a limited player, so this is the wrong format, but I’ll waste some time on it anyways

Cards that worked just right for me, not over performing or underperforming, were victor and the balemurk leeches. That’s actually the name of my new band

When Leline of Resonance didn't get a day 1 ban i started playing red. Now im that guy
It's ok to play strong decks. When it does get banned, you'll get your wild cards back lol (it will get banned if it keeps putting numbers imo)
You still suck at magic if you win with that deck though. Does not validate you as a good player as skill is determined in limited not constructed.
@@thefreshproduce hey, how about you spread love and be kind. Constructed magic also takes skill. If that wasn't the case, it would be part of Pro Tours. Limited has different skills that are more encompassing, yes, but that doesn't mean that it is strictly superior.

@@frenche2480 not actually. Green has got some great combo cards, white continues to get really annoying things, even red got some great cards in duskmourn. Blue is the least gifted as of late.
Pwr dragon had leyline of resonance in his underperformer/do not craft list the other day...
Pwr dragon is cool but not a great player. I wouldn't put a lot of weight into his assessments.
He's been downplaying it since the reveal. Meanwhile CGB cut through Diamond with it in less than 2h
I had someone mulligan down to 4 cards put it down for free and I still died turn two…
@@JeremyDeere I actually only mentioned it because Dev seems to put weight on his opinions. Not gonna lie, I rarely watch post dragon, but I do watch lots of card review videos, regardless of the content creator.
Same way I just watch Dev for noise, not the value.

Valgavoth had the same vibe as Vein Ripper to me in the sense that to get rid of them, you have to make them do their thing. I think that's where ward becomes a nice synergy vs just costing more to get rid of it.

These are some really good cards. My oldest son played in the DuskMourn prerelease and went 4 - 0. He had an insane green and white deck. He pulled 2 Hauntwood Shriekers and Dollmaker's Shop with some very good support cards. Thank you for the video.
Overlord of the Balemurk is absolutely AWESOME, I love it and it was instant 4 craft for me.

You played much pktcg live? Honestly games in a great spot rn and its decks are basicly free
Kaito has been a rock star for me so far. The ninjitsu is really easy to hit in a dimir fliers build, and then he's a 3 mana 4/5 hexproof.
10:18 it’s 100% exceeded the expectations. The initial shock was quickly met with “turn 2 kill isn’t different from a 3 or 4 really” to “well the game ends before I can even cast a 3 drop if they go first and aggressively mull.
It’s gonna warp the meta to point every deck needs one or two drop removal and 8 slots of it
Would like to acknowledge that you called out its power ceiling and level of feels bad would lead to it getting banned and that seems to be 100% the case.
We were already at the point where everyone was running at least 8 copies of really cheap removal namely disfigure because sweepers were already too slow for a good mono red start before duskmourn released.
I think this leyline will make it so that everything except hard control and super aggressive aggro decks will have a really hard time in standard.

Valgavoth is deffinetly close to on par with attraxa it seems kinda obvious lol it does so much sure card advantage is gold but like come on hes prime
@joshelderkin9592 Val is better then Attraxa on turn 4 but Attraxa is better late game for the card draw. Unless OP has a board wipe on turn 5 it's game over putting Val into play turn 4.

I played a tapland, Annnd.... it's good game. Meanwhile I'm stuck on 3 lands 10 cards in(26 lands) far more often than random bad luck... in a platform that can program perfect and imperfect hands/draws. Done with Arena for a while. Is cockatrice still around? What magic platforms are there?
Sheltered by Ghosts has transformed my rabbit deck. Nasty! Exile something, then trample and gain life with enduring innocence replacing Finneas for card draw. It works.
Alot of these cards are luck based. Reminds me of lightsworn in Yu-Gi-Oh.
I crafted overlord of the balemurk and unstoppable slasher for my roots deck and they were such overperformes I added them in mono black midrange.
I been playing a golgari more on the side of ramp then reanimator works well getting one of these out turn 4 Obliterator, Rottenmouth and Vagavoth to completely crush the soul of my opponent

Unholy Annex is GOOOOD. Not against aggro as much, but I play bo3 and don't hate my life :D

If you play BO1 it’s bad. It’s busted and the community believes there’s not like a single ban that answers the question. The current discussion appears that getting rid of hand smoother might be the only answer. Yesterday I played my daily’s and of the 21 games I played on platinum ranked 14 games were mono red of which I lost everyone I was on the draw and won two I went first. I’m trying to learn BO3
It’s so much of the meta I climbed up to diamond with a mono black early control into combo deck in two nights lol one and two drop removal and then black midrange with the slashe/ letter combo
@@JStackyeah been struggling against mono black hand control/midrange unless I draw the nuts and I go first. Once the bat comes down on turn two it hurts especially if you mull for the leyline

Any deck has a 46.7% chance of drawing any card that is a 4 of in your deck in your starting hand and a 40% chance to have the right pump spells to do it too. Meaning that it's close to a coin flip that Mono Red has the leyline and a bit less likely that the combo will happen. The problem is that 1 mulligan has the same chances of getting it, ans that makes it very possible the Mono Red Leyline kills will be banable (if they are actually as good as they seem right now)
I think it's a bo1 issue imo. Don't see how people don't sideboard for it. The deck can run out of gas and the leyline is a key piece
@@hahahafunniness it can still be a problem simply because it can kill faster than it can be answered, especially if the other deck has any number of lands that enter tapped. That significantly decreases your odds of being able to answer this on your turns 1 or 2
Been running Rottenmouth Viper and Valgavoth in a suite of reanimater decks and am very pleased
Chainsaw in my Boros Token Control deck has been an absolutely monster. Great removal dealing 3dmg on ETB and constantly grows as things die, allowing my tokens to become huge threats
I hate being this guy, but none of this matters when 4/5 matches on MTGA are T2 or T3 win mono red decks 😢😊
