Each episode seems to build in intensity, and there really isn’t a “filler” In a similar way that Rogue One was done you really get to see why the empire had to be stopped. I would say this episode does the whole "superior technological force brought down by ragtag group of locals" just a little bit better than Return of the Jedi lol. It's a great way of demonstrating how the Rebellion will operate in the future. I'm normally very leery of "dark, gritty, dramatic, hardcore" takes on franchises that haven't been otherwise. Often times it comes off feeling out of place and a little bit of a desperation plea to be taken seriously. But Andor is an exception to my rule. It's a tonal shift from traditional Star Wars properties that makes sense for the story being told, and they got people talented enough in-front of and behind the camera to make it all work. This series was a very pleasant surprise.
What I love about Andor is that it is a great TV show first, and set in the Star wars universe second. It will play into the Star Wars fan service a little bit, but only when it makes the show better. You could take this exact show, make only minor alterations, and set it on earth and it would still be a great show.

On every one of these videos I can point out something from the episode that shows how unique it is compared to most of Star Wars. Just look at the scene where Timm gets shot. The squad leader and the guy who fired are visibly distressed by what just happened, and the leader sends the guy who just killed a civilian back to the ship to try to maintain control of the situation. It feels real, everyone's reactions are what they would be in our world. There's so many more examples of this thoughtful writing to come.
The main themes of this show are the following: Patience, buildup, instruments, percussions, worldbuilding, good writing, great acting, best monologue ( until they top it in the next episode ), little details, lots of practical effects, great visuals, great music, the tension is real. I really love how they build up the tension with that clanging and Marva's monologue ( she did got into their heads lol ) and when it stops you could hang your clothes on the tension its so great. It's true Holden this is not the meat yet there is so much to come and all I can say is to pay attention to the little details, there is so much work and care went into these sets ( especially later ). Those aren't "themes", those are just aspects of the show. I agree tho, it has all those things and I love Andor like you do. But yea, look up what a "theme" for a story is, you don't seem to understand it. For example, themes for Andor inclufe Sacrifice, Loss, Hope, and Redemption.
The music is composed by Nicholas Brittel. My other favorite theme by him is the Theme from Succession. He has done tons of other things, but Andor is a masterpiece!

This episode absolutely blew me away! (And to think the show only gets better!) I adore the set pieces and the dramatic sound design and score. An absolutely cinematic piece of Star Wars!
As someone who grew up reading all of the Star Wars books, playing the games, and getting super into the lore not of the Jedi, but of the Rebellion, this episode was a revelation to me. One of the things that Andor does really well, where other SW media really struggles is the villains. Not only are the named villains memorable and 3-dimmensional, but even the goons are competent and don't just die like cannon fodder. The team was humiliated, but not because they were incompetent or just because they were the bad guys. They were actually acting pretty well with the information they had and if Andor didn't have Luthin's help, he would have certainly been captured or killed.
😄… good one. Jen is really liking the “character” of the officer (Syril Karn); which demonstrates what great writing and acting can do to immerse you into this show and the characters inhabiting it

The "CORPOS" are the "professional", PRIVATE security forces hired by the empire to police systems without an empire presence. Ferrix had a very light CORPO presence but was under the jurisdiction of the Morlana sector with the HQ being at Morlana One, where Andor killed the two CORPO officers. Ferrix was referenced in Episode 2 as being a place no one wants to control, kinda like the Ozarks, better off to let them be and mete out their own Mountain Justice. Officer Karns' obsession with getting justice for the fallen officers sets off a series of events, starting with the death of more CORPO officer in Episode 3. Hope that helps.
This episode is the first time ever that the word shit was said in any Star Wars media. And yes that is kinda insignificant, but it speaks for the tone of the show
Like you said, great music, especially at the end there. By the way, those "Not Empire" guys are local security force for the overarching company Cassian's people work for, I believe.
They are. The planet is under corporate control and these are corporate security, essentially private police with full police authority - though it's clear the Empire is slowly muscling in on their territory. (Harkens back to the EU's CorSec faction, which had a tenuous economic / political relationship with the Empire.)
@@Jansenbaker Happy to help! ANDOR is essentially everything I ever wanted to see in "grown-up" Star Wars and exploring the parts of the galaxy I liked seeing the EU: Regular people navigating extraordinary economic and political (fascistic) circumstances, bubbling up with rebellion and fixed with hard choices. No Jedis or Sith, no massive space battles, no special destinies. I love the crap out of this series, even if it dashes my hopes of Lucasfilm hiring me for my ideas! LOL. Espionage, corporate interests, logistics, supplies, spies, saboteurs, rebels, and rogues slipping about makes for the drama I enjoy. The only card I have left to play is the role of mass media and HoloNet hackers. Call me, Tony! I have ideas! 😀
Glad you finally clocked where you knew Fiona Shaw (Maarva) from. She has two of THE most emotionally resonant and beautiful lines in all of Star Wars, along with one of the four greatest character beats in all of Star Wars (all of which happen in Andor).

Andor and Tony Gilroy really set a precedent for Disney+. Not just for Star Wars but for all content they put on the platform. Mediocrity can’t be accepted anymore after we got something like this.
Someone made the observation that the season was two setup episodes and then one payoff episode (repeat). I can't remember if it played out exactly that way, but I am confident in reassuring you that the setups are worth it throughout.
"Take me up Rix Road and hang me in the square. Wouldn't be the first time, would it? Isn't that where they hung your father?" That is referring to Cassian's adoptive father, Clem Andor, the gentleman with Maarva when she rescues Kassa from Kenari. Only brought this up because you'll hear the name Clem and maybe miss the significance. I suggest that Cassian has a familiar backstory. Kassa (Kal-El) from the doomed planet Kenari (Krypton), separated from his sister Kerri (cousin Kara) and adopted by Clem and Maarva ("Why did you say that name?") who raised him on Ferrix (Earth). Ferrix is possibly the grungiest planet we've seen in Star Wars so far (excepting bombed Mandalore) - so that certainly fits.
The “not Empire” group is preox-Morlana a company that works for the empire in the early days it’s part of the empire but while the empiral navy is what we mostly see this is a civilian group and thier security goons. It’s like seeming one of the military contractors send thier security into an area

Regular people navigating extraordinary economic and political (fascistic) circumstances, bubbling up with rebellion and fixed with hard choices.
Please start doing these more often! Love the andor reactions
Naw, Daddy Skarsgard has possibly the best speech in all of Star Wars.
When I first watched this episode all I was thinking was that this was the mature Star Wars I’ve been wanting to see, obviously not all Star Wars properties should be like this but I love that we have this tone for this show
Holden unlocked a memory when he said lazy town
I can't wait until your reaction to episodes 5 &6- but again need the build up 2 get the full impact.its all connected but when Andy shows up.get ready 4 some serious acting
This is the episode! Hold on
It all looks really good because most everything is practical effects and all the locations are real. This was not shot on the volume or in front of green screen
Looking forward to seeing you get to the end.
“One way out…”
Andor series is set up as 3 episode arks for the most part. so every 3 or 4 episodes is a climax of the story.
Yesss I love this show so much
Watching how weak this season of the Mandalorian is makes me really appreciate what they did with Andor.
They called us madmen when we said Andor was on another level compared to Mando S1-2… S3 of Mando cements the fact that Andor is just so much better
@@jedijacob0411 Oh galaxies far far away better. The moment the new season of the Mandalorian started it felt like a saturday morning cartoon. I know not everything needs to be Andor but this new season is just ridiculous.
Yes, really enjoyed this episode..... and Holden's right. This is just the build-up and start to something bigger..... look forward to seeing you guys react to future episodes. Awesome. :)
Andor was great. Probably my favorite from the Galaxy Far Far Away
Love this show so much
The bad guy from Lazytown is such a deep cut.
FOr me Kyle Stoller who plays Syril Karn reminded me of another Kyle, McLaughlin in his younger days. Great episode and finish to this arc!
Stellan* Bill is Pennywise in IT haha
The “not Empire” group is preox-Morlana a company that works for the empire in the early days it’s part of the empire but while the empiral navy is what we mostly see this is a civilian group and thier security goons. It’s like seeming one of the military contractors send thier security into an area
4:05 You might recognize her as Lena, King Koopa's ...mistress? From Super Mario Bros (1993).
Definitely her most iconic role 😂
Fiona Shaw- she was also in Killing Eve
Please put these together in 3 episode chunks! Every 3 episodes work as their own story ARC
