Recap and discussion of episode 22 of Mobile Suit Gundam - The Witch from Mercury. Mio is sad and then not sad. Quiet Zero is on a rampage. Delling wakes up. Guel in his Dilanza again. Lauda going rogue in the Schwarzette. Good stuff.

Usual video addendum comment! I was under the impression Guston/Belmeria took the Calibarn from Plant Quetta, since I don't think it was stated otherwise where they got it, they seemed to have gotten it after they made their trip to Plant Quetta, so if that's the case, what exactly was Prospera looking for there? Just another device to extend Quiet Zero's range?
Also, with some back and forth, I recant my statement on Guel throwing the duel with Suletta. It was a really quick scene, so the test didn't seem that substantial, but it was still a test, whether Guel was putting in his all or not. Since Mio/Guel left her broken, she still had to prove she was able to move on.
Plant Quetta had whatever extra parts QZ needs to get full data storm coverage. Guston and Bel stole it and its now with them. I also don't think Eri being a red herring for Suletta's permet abilities is wrong. Yeah she's effected but she's also piloting the Calibarn at a level that is lethal to anyone else. That's still special. And the fight isn't over there still may be more to come.
I'm annoyed with how the duel was handled. I get that its symbolic. But the way Guel spoke about being Miorine's fiancé and all is a regression back to her just being a trophy. You can't tell me a society that has gay marriage, doesn't let women decide who to marry. They could have still had the duel but framed it differently.
@@mattwhite7421 thanks! On initial viewing I thought it was the Calibarn. I can see Suletta needing to push her Permet score even higher during her fight with Aerial, so that would be cool to see.
And the duel with Guel was pretty weird. At this point he didn't really have to antagonize Suletta like that, and it was really short. He lost fairly quickly, went "okay cool here's the Holder status" and they went on their way in like a minute. Felt kinda weird
@@mattwhite7421 Well that's an indictment of that society have to leave it in. Gay acceptance does not mean a society will be fully enlightened it just did not back slide on Gay rights not human rights. Unknown if Mio a boy if her father could bind a son the same as he did his daughter. This having to do with the quasi governmental nature of the corporations and inheritance.
Think of it as was liberal enough to get gay rights and when the conservative corporations took over imposing their business conservatism they lacked the religious reason to want to reverse gay rights.
Guel needs to reverse the effect of him winning and do that he must at least go though the formula to lose a duel.
@@RevoSKL No problem. I've had to rewatch things a few times because they are really subtle about some of those plot hooks. I've seen others say that Guel did what he did because he wanted Suletta to have a fair fight and it was also a test of resolve. Maybe? I think this is something that gets lost in translation between eastern and western audiences. A western take would have had Suletta telling him it wasn't the time for silly duels and if he still thought the holder meant anything then he doesn't understand or deserve Mio.
@@mattwhite7421 Yeah, looking at a story retrospectively when everything is already laid out makes it easier to piece things together. Less so when it's all in the moment, especially with subtle nuance.
And yeah I have mixed feelings about the duel, even after some discussion with people in the comments. My biggest problem was how fast it went and insignificant it felt. If a bit more was put into it, I can see the "testing" being a big deal. But they kinda just flew through it, so it felt weird
I didn't expect Guel's Dilanza to get the runback, LET'S GO!
I hope he can defeat Lauda and the Schwarzette, I feel like that'd be a cool way to top off his growth as a pilot. That he can win against a Gundam with the suit he lost with first.
Yeah seeing the Dilanza again was a good treat. Makes sense since the Darilbalde got wrecked shortly before. I think he'll be able to take Lauda just from piloting experience, and hopefully without killing Lauda lol

I hope Suletta doesn't die man, her character arc has come full circle. Any other show I would say everything would be fine, but this is a Gundam show.
I doubt Suletta is gonna be killed off, but if we do end up going to about 50 episodes for the whole show, I can see her getting messed up during this engagement, either through Permet or fighting with Aerial

Just when i thought my nihilistic predictions was gonna be part true, i should've remembered that this show is part revolutionary girl utena because guel vs suletta round 3 gave me the practical vibes of utena vs touga (round 2)
Yeah Okouchi also wrote that, though I'm pretty unfamiliar with it so I don't bring it up really. I'll check it out eventually since I've enjoyed most of his stuff
They weren't looking for Calibarn in Plant Quetta. Calibarn was never in Plant Quetta .They were trying to retrieve the device which allows Quiet Zero to extend it's range to the entire Earth Sphere.

Guel definitely didn’t throw the Guel. It was a test for Suletta.
I can see it either way tbh, it was such a quick scene that I can't believe he was really putting in his all, and after he lost he moved on without any surprise. When he asked her initially I figured it was a test, but it was pretty fast
@@RevoSKL he always knew he was weaker than Suletta at her peak. That’s been apparent since mid S1. However, when he left her she was broken and dependent. This was his way of seeing whether she had evolved or was still held back. Don’t get me wrong, he was fine with Suletta winning, but that’s due to his maturity and growth. Also it would be incredibly belittling to Suletta and frankly to Guel if he was holding back. If the fight had no meaning it wouldn’t have happened.

I agree. I feel Guel has too much respect for Suletta to just throw away a duel like that. Especially after probably having a bad taste in his mouth from their last duel. He seemed to have tried and just lost.
Why would he ever throw a duel or himself?? Just not his style.
The JP community has been talking about the Broomstick looking like the Satellite Cannon. The Caliburn is also another name for Excalibur, the Broomstick upon activation is shaped like an X. Very cheeky and in your face.
I don't care what happens next I just want to see Chu chu survive....Bonus points if Eri and Sulletta makes it but I don't mind somehow they don't for plot reasons. I am indifferent about Masked Mama but either way whatever happens I look forward to how this story gets implemented into future SRT campaign hopefully as a main focus storyline. Setsuna, Rita and Eri interactions will be cool~
The broom rifle of Gundam Calibarn reminds me of Gundam Denbrobium's Mega Beam Cannon from UC and Gundam Dynames Torpedo's DG014 from A.D. of Gundam 00V.
Two more episodes left. I'm gonna miss your recaps after every episode. But I love your SRW vids as well, so I'll always have those to look forward to.
Thank you. Honestly I just started doing the recaps as something low effort to do on the side but they ended up being my best performing videos on the channel, I didn't expect much when I started doing them. I've even made jokes that the channel is dead after WFM ends lol
I'll start doing some other stuff soon though. I'll probably keep up with recaps on other currently airing mecha anime/manga, and start doing retrospectives on my mecha collection. And of course SRW if I get ideas for more interesting videos to make on it.

Hey, just a small correction, Caliburn wasn't in possession of Prospera at any point and time. It was always in the hands of the Space Assembly League. Prospera appears to be going towards multiple units, since she used a plural, none of which are the Caliburn, at Plant Quetta.
Seems like the return of the Lfrith that Prospera piloted, because we know now that it didn't get developed into Aerial, at least not directly. Not to mention, once again, she says it *plural*. However, also, it was still never exactly elaborated on as to what made the particular Lfrith unit special, hence why I think it would return.
Are you talking about the Gundam she piloted in the Prologue? Because that was the Gundam that became the Aerial.
Thanks for the correction, I had assumed Guston/Belmeria nabbed it when they went to Plant Quetta since they seemed to have gotten it around that time, and I don't recall them actually stating where they got it from. That's the impression I got when seeing that scene for the first time anyways, and I write as I watch so I don't actually have much time to correct when I'm editing.
@@RevoSKL The only issue with your comment you just made, they also never went to Plant Quetta. Hence why later in episode 22, Prospera is still going there. It appears to be another unit.
@@Sandrock313 No, we see several times in season 2 that Aerial was built from the ground up. Sans use of Lfrith. Meaning Lfrith presumably still exists somewhere. Not to mention it was never elaborated upon what made that specific Lfrith so special in comparison to the other models, therefore I think we might see it return.
It was confirmed by Prospera that she used the Lfrith to save Eri’s biometric data back in episode 16 when Belmaria confronted her about it before it was later built into the Aerial.

I predict that the Peil company is going to be stopped by Elan 5. He seems to be on a vengeful path with nothing to lose, maybe hoping he could stop this cycle of Repli-children being made for Gundam. The only evidence I can think of is the art book he carried. He looked like he really wanted to visit the place that was drawn, but said “I envy you…” to Suletta, who expresses her free will. It seems to be that he couldn’t choose, because now he knows he’ll have to sacrifice himself to stop Peil.
tbh i'm confused why peil didn't bother to search for el5n, he is living proof peil done many dirty things and can easily destroy peil reputation.
Correction, it was not Calibarn that they were looking for, but the final piece to complete Quiet Zero.

Still holding out for some apocalyptic event to happen and lead into a season 3, but yeah it looks like things will wrap up here
@@RevoSKLthought there would be more with the Earth plot, but Mio cutting a deal with Shaddiq seems to imply that’s how they’re going to resolve it. I guess the Guel Earth episode was just to show us how bad the people have it on Earth and for us to understand why Shaddiq does what he does. As for Peil Company, Elan 5 seems to be the one to resolve that. I’m still hoping that my prediction from the last video will come true.

Never give up hope on a season three guys I'm sure they would do a full length movie like they did for Mobile Suit Gundam Wing and Mobile SUIT GUNDAM OO and probably have the characters come back when the earthians or spacians are under attack but I quote Dekim Barton from Mobils Suit Gundam Wing Endless waltz" there's nothing wrong wishing for peace but the question is Is Humanity ready for it? Having said that I could see that leading into some cool stuff, Lauda's pissed that Guel's engaged to Miorine basically, and it could lead into a moment of Miorine affirming and asserting that Suletta's indeed her wife which, if Suletta and Eri manage to hear it, might get Eri onto Suletta's side, gotta make that ED make sense somehow

Great episode expect one part that miffs me. The fencing duel.
Ngl this scene seems completely unnecessary. I don't think anyone cares about the Holder System ESPECIALLY Miorine at this point when there's a Super Weapon capable of hacking almost anything in is on the way. Plus I think it be better if they went "I don't care if you're the holder or not. I want to be with you" and that's coming from someone who doesn't really care about the Yuri. Also how tf did Suletta win that? She's physical capable but I don't think she's fenced even once in her life so I'm guessing Guel just threw the match which again who tf cares at this point who's the holder or not.
Kinda a dumb scene imho but asides from that a good episode also the Gundam Caliburn is pretty cool looking, more traditional in design and all white (with the red permet lights it remind me of Narrative Gundam C-Packs) but with unique equipment which is essentially a witches broom that has thrusters and a high power beam cannon. Also it has handle on the end of the beam cannon so maybe giant beam sword in the future? I definitely like the Gundam Caliburn more the Aerial + Rebuild but idk if I like it more then the Gundam Lfrith and Gundam Lfrith Pre-Production Model though.
My problem with the fencing scene was how fast it went. It was too short for Guel to really "test" Suletta, whether that was the intent or not, so it felt to me like he threw the fight for the most part. If it was a bit longer with Guel really trying against her I would feel different about it. And yeah, the whole throwing the Holder back at her doesn't really hold any weight anymore in the story lol
It's not at all unnecessary for who Guel and Suletta are and have been for the last 2 seasons. Not to mention, Guel's company will now go bankrupt without Miorine's support, there's no reason to believe HE ever fenced in his life, and he was very obviously genuinely fighting against her. He had plenty to lose and it's obvious his love for Suletta was conflicting with his responsibility to his family.

Honestly that's a good explanation. Better then him losing on purpose or Suletta somehow being able to win her first ever fencing match.

The funny thing to me is that if you search "witch from mercury episode 22", or really any video from previous episodes, almost every video from someone discussing it has spoilers in either the title, thumbnail, or both. Very few people care, especially if they're looking for a recap after they had already seen the episode. Also, Delling waking up had literally zero plot consequence, he may as well have stayed asleep lmao
@@RevoSKL That'd be cool if people are looking for a recap, but when its a suggested video just cause we watch WFM or gunpla videos that doesn't hold up so well. That's cool that it has little to nothing to do with anything but it's still a spoiler that's just unneeded to be in a thumbnail. That's why I mentioned the whole do not recommend channel, as it's a suggested video not me actively wanting to know a single thing about the episode
