*EASY WEIGHT FAQ* *DOWNLOAD EASY WEIGHT* *SIGH* The download location keeps changing. I don't understand why they can't just make it simple :) Here is what you need to do currently (might change again in the future. If it does, let me know). Go here: studio.blender.org/pipeline/addons/overview and click on Release Page which takes you here projects.blender.org/studio/blender-studio-pipeline/releases Download "blender_studio_add-ons_latest. zip" Technically you can install this zip file but it will install ALL Studio tools. That's OK, if you only activate Easy Weight (look for it in the addon search), it won't slow down your blender startup. But if you only want Easy Weight, open up "blender_studio_add-ons_latest. zip" and extract the EasyWeights folder from it. Turn this folder into a zip file and install it in Blender as usual. *-ctrl+click Issue* Just after I released the video, the addon was updated which introduces a weird problem. You may be unable to ctrl+click to select bones in Weight Paint mode. This is because the addon overrides some key bindings. Find out how to fix this in this short update video: ua-cam.com/video/PevJeH3fqqI/v-deo.html
The Add-on's new key maps for 'ctrl + left mouse' is an invert weight paint (conflicts with existing keymap for bone select) and the 'shift + left mouse' is smooth/blur weight paint (can be a handy shortcut).
Its not working for me It is installing only 1 module/file from the zip - only the smart weight transfer and the addon appear as = (Object distance weighted weight transfer) weird but maybe because I'm with Blender 3.6 ? maybe some bug or not supported version. Oh it is for blender 2.9 sad :( @CGDive is it the version not support or its something else?
Honestly, this kind of stuff is what the Blender Development team needs to focus on. We do NOT need anymore geometry node updates- we need quality of life! Anyways, excellent video and addon!
1:25 - This should just be how Blender works. It took me literally days to get used to the clunky workflow of "select bones", "select mesh", "toggle into weight paint", "Is it ctrl click to select bones? shift click? alt click? oh right ctrl click", "Wait why isn't it selecting my bones?", "Dangit I forgot to select bones before selecting mesh" It's absolutely ridiculous. Thank you for this!
after installing this add-on, you can't select bone by ctrl click in weight paints mode, innit? it looks like the hotkeys have changed. how do you solve it?
That was in blender for a while, you don't need this addon to do that :). In fact this addon is just bassically a set off buttons that just perform normal blender operations.
Damn man THANK YOU for bringing this tool up. It make SO MUCH easier to work with weights. Blender simply MUST hire this guy into main team to work with weight paint branch of project. Cause default one is a messy pile of code, compared to what this guy did.
You've got Easy Weights Addon back under the lightspot! 🙀Since I've got Blender 3.6.0 LTS lately, I couldn't find the Addon anywhere on the web, nor a fresher, compatible version; and its GitLab page got disabled... Thanks for tracking down this jewel!
Wow! This is a powerful addon, and it's free! I love free, because I'm cheap. Lol! 😂 I especially love the last feature you demonstrated: Calculate Weight Islands. That's really useful for cleaning things up you might miss during the weight paint process. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us! I really appreciate it! Let me give you a WOO: WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! 😃
Only one thing would have been nice to really complete this addon. That would have been either hotkeys or a pie menu to select between different weight painting brushes (I know there are addons to create one's own pie menus)
Great update as always, Please @CGDive Can we have comprehensive tutorial on weight painting for the eyelids/ eyelashes/eyebrows, and how to make an eye close and open perfectly, thank you.

(Would love to show you my Rigify custom pie menu that can control every aspect in a human rig, I am a bit of a perfectionist freak.)
The developer of this has no listed solution for the Select Bone key mapping getting over-written. What's the alternative? "Over time as more things have been fixed on Blender's side, some features have been removed. To avoid confusion, these are listed here: As of Blender 3.1, holding the Ctrl and Shift buttons in weight painting will use the Subtract and Blur brushes respectively, removing the need for the shortcuts on the 1, 2, 3 keys this addon used to add to provide quick brush switching."
To fix this problem, just go to your keymap and search for the section for weight painting. In there remove the two weight paint keys that are binded to ctrl+left mouse and shift+leftmouse. For whatever reason it binded 3 weight paint keys to already existing keys.
Wow this is so much time saver, so grateful that you shared with community. When testing weight painting I found that huge time is wasted on change brush type between Add and Substract. Is there a way around to bind it to shortcut or another way?
Thanks for this, it's making weight painting much easier! Do you have any idea how to use the "Force Apply Mirror Modifier" operator that is mentioned in the read me and docs on Blender Studio?
I've just installed this add on and found out that it messes up the ability to select each bone using the Ctrl + Left Mouse. Not sure if this is the proper way to fix it but in Preferences/ Keymap/3D View/Weight Paint, select the Weight Paint that uses the keyboard short cut Ctrl Left Mouse, then change the option from "paint.weight_paint" to "action.clcikselect". Seemed to work for me. EDIT just seen updated video, thanks.
Mind blown. What an amazing addon. I also gave the same shortcut to "Object mode" selection (while in weight paint mode) in order to toggle WP on&off. Made the transition btwn weight paint and object mode buttery smooth. However i have one problem, whenever i go back to object mode, the armature "in-front" option stays active, making the bones remain visible through the mesh. I don't want to turn this off each time i go back to object mode. Is there any solution to this ?
Just downlaoded it and they changed quite a lot, seem they stripped lots of items. THey adjsut it to a pie menu, which i personally find horrible. i find these menu harder to look at. They also stripped lots of quick functionality
it's been years and still no way to (almost) bypass any weighting method. If ever I need an AI, then it should be on this part. It still the most annoying process even I did it for many years. I just want to start animating my rig.
@@gamingtemplar9893 Sorry I only watched like half of the video when I replied so I didn't realize that this one is like an accessory and mesh voxel is an algorithm
The mesh needs to be bound to the armature though. Then you select the right, shift+select the mesh and go to weight paint mode. To select the bones you can ctrl+click up to blender 3.6. From 4.0 it's alt+click or ctrl+shift+click.
