The first section of the overture that Vinci composed to "Artaserse" is the whole opera in itself. Such a mastery! This is how an opera must be started.

Vinci's music: the indestructible Carara marble from which the greatest composer of all time, Pergolesi, carved his transcendental music, never hitherto equaled, Pergolesi who has been called more than once the Virgil and the Rafael of music. Really? Yes, really. It's just that everyone forgot about it. According to the celebrated English author and music historian Charles Burney's account of his travels in settecento Italy to find out all about its music, he learned that a teenage Pergolesi (1710-1736) in the 1720s wanted to leave school in Naples and compose in the manner of Vinci. The music in this video is what Pergolesi heard in Naples. This deeply inspired him to compose in six years, from 1730 until he died in 1736, music that has never been paralleled. After Burney's seminal work, the link between Vinci and Pergolesi has been completely lost. It is perhaps the Greatest Story of Influence in the History of Western Music: the relation between the incomparable Vinci and the transcendental Pergolesi. Totally wiped off the face of the earth. Unbelievable. It comes close to the Greatest Friendship in the History of Music, that between Pergolesi and Leonardo Leo, the second greatest composer of all time. When his first mass in D appeared not all that successful (yet, that mass is just stunning), Pergolesi tried again with a mass in F. He really wanted Leo to hear this (Vinci had died in 1730). When Leo came, he listened and warmly embraced and loudly praised Pergolesi for having written such phenomenal music. Leo was a total genius. But he was for some reason totally unassuming in praising others. The warm embrace between Pergolesi and Leo in about 1734 in Naples is definitely the pinnacle of Western music. Western music has never been better than this. Vinci's music was completely forgotten until recently, Pergolesi's legacy was reduced to his eternal Stabat Mater, written on his deathbed. Forgetting all this is the greatest injustice in the history of Western music. Such a shame. It is time to elevate Neapolitan early settecento music to UNESCO World Heritage status. I believe that music of Baroque era, age of reason, great enlightenment- is the most sensual, sexual, thrilling, supernatural and i love it so much- listen to baroque every day. How i wish that the style was respectfully revived. Use the same form today. This is just what my heart and soul always are asking for
Please could some companies put on this wonderful opera in England. I love 🎉all the usual 18 century operas, but could someone, please do some of this wonderful music as well.
I was shocked when I heard Franco sing this song. It should hit # 1 in some kind of chart.. Sounds like he swallowed a canary.. I wonder what he is doing today.
And what a beautiful Semira! 💐
Having some of the best countertenors in one production is really a treat

And to imagine Vinci had been forgotten until Max found him again ! All this beauty lost for centuries 💔
I wonder how many other famous baroque composers at those times are know completely forgoten.
This is breathtaking, fantastic....these voices, the ambiance, this brilliant music...thanks for posting
Thanks for listening ;)

Oh Dios .!

Such a gift to all baroque music lovers even if we have participated the concert version in Köln!
Thank you for this. I love Franco Fagioli's performance, especially at the end. Pretty much out of this world.

Splendide!

Pone los pelos de punta. Bravissimo.
Er ist auch ein schöner Mann! ❤

This man is a beast I thought she was the only women who could sing like this.
Mirabili@!
I liked the tenor

Really? The breath control is bad and the low and high notes miss most times. I obviously don't hear this the same as you.

This performance would be banned in Tennessee & Florida!
Franco Fagioli's voice spoiled this for me. Just can't listen. The others are a joy.
