  • Astrolux FT02 flashlight review. This is a high-powered light for very long distance throw. It takes one 21700 or 18650 lithium-ion battery, and produces 2250 lumens with a throw of 850 meters.
    You can find the flashlight here:
    goo.gl/mr9bUK
    Currently, there is a discount code for almost half-off. Use code BGFT02 to get the light for $52.99.

    Hello ! If (conditionally) compare flashlights of a similar class, compact throwers, Thrunite V6, Nitecore p30, Lumintop GT mini and this Astrolux FT02, then in what order would you arrange them? From the best (more powerful, farther, better ...) to a few less better! 😇 Thank you! I think it will be interesting to many!

    well ok but on what conditions does the thermal control kick in
    i mean the flashlight probably has little chance to get hot when on bike for example, as the wind resistance during a ride constantly cools it

      The light I was testing used an old driver, and the retail version of the light uses a better driver. So, it would regulate differently. I believe it uses a version of NarsilM for the user interface, which unfortunately uses quite aggressive thermal management by default. The good news is that you can configure the thermal controls to a few different methods, including just turning it off entirely. That's the way I use Narsil lights, though you have to be careful to check the heat yourself so the light doesn't get too hot. I have a few other videos showing how to program Narsil lights, though you might want to look for videos going into more detail about that.

      @@walkintothelight7142 man i have a strange problem with my ft02
      i know there is thermal control, but it's so inconsistent
      one time it kicks in after 5-6 minutes (lol), and another time 20-30 seconds is enough to drop the power
      what's even more strange is that i can make the flashlight super hot, and then insert another battery, which will work for 5-6min on turbo again, regardless of the flashlight being hot
      what the hell is going on here

    • @walkintothelight7142

      That does sound a bit odd. The NarsilM firmware isn't very accurate with thermal controls, so that might be the problem. You could try programming it to use a fixed timed step-down, if the thermal one isn't working properly. 8-second press to go into configuration mode, wait for the 3rd option (3 blinks), click 3 times to use a timed stepdown, then click 1 to 6 times for how long the step-down should be (60 seconds to 7 minutes, 4 clicks will give you 3 minutes which is a good start). Look at the manual for more details.

      It's cool white. I prefer neutral white, but this cool white isn't very cold, so it's okay.

    how does the astrolux ft03 compare to this ft02?

    • @walkintothelight7142
      @walkintothelight7142  5 років тому +1

      I'll be posting a video on the FT03 in about a week. I'm working on it now. They are very similar lights. The biggest difference is that the FT02 uses a boost driver, whereas the FT03 uses a FET driver. They both have similar performance, but the FT02 is more expensive due to the boost driver. The FT03 output will drop as the battery depletes, but will last longer. Other differences is that the FT03 will take 18650, 21700, and 26650 cells. The FT02 does not take 26650. Also, different emitters, though that doesn't make much difference.

      Walk Into The Light thanks for the info as I placed an order on a neutral white 5700k fto3. I guess the question I should have asked is which one is brighter overall. I like the boost driven lights so I may order the ft02 depends if I'm happy with the fto3

    • @walkintothelight7142
      @walkintothelight7142  5 років тому +1

      The FT02 and FT03 are very similar in brightness. The FT03 may be slightly brighter, but only on a full high-drain battery. But as the battery declines, so will the output of the FT03. The FT02 brightness doesn't change, since it uses a boost driver.

      Walk Into The Light well I got my ft03 and I'm more than happy although I received a 6500k version instead 5700k bang good just gives me the finger so I'll just stick to manker, emisar lights and the such.
      Meanwhile my ft03 goes close to 30 minutes in turbo b4 stepping down

    What’s the running time on turbo before it steps down

      My version is a prototype, with a different driver than is in the production release. So, it will be totally different than the final version, but mine was a couple of minutes. I think the final version uses thermal controls, so it will depend on ambient temperature. I'd expect somewhere around 3 minutes, based on how much heat mine produces, which should be similar to the final version.
