Always thought it was weird the base game didn't have coop, the combat is just so perfect for an amazing cooperative experience. Pawns just aren't the same.
I actually made a video on this already, 'My Honest Thoughts on DD2' but the upshot is while I think the game has merit I find myself ultimately disappointed with the overall package. I dislike the direction it took relying so heavily on preparation that it often dips into inconvenience. The recent changes sound like they took things in a direction I'd like more, but the core of the game just feels, to be blunt, soulless to me.

So been playing for a bit, and it's really fun. It feels like a dragon's dogma game. but it's still a heavy work in progress, like half the functionality is missing and the desync is rough. When playing with someone else, also the netcode is fucking garbage, but there's not much that can be done because that was Capcoms doing. The developers are wizards for getting this far, but for all that bellyaching, it's still worth playing because there's nothing like this on the market.
I really liked the idea of Dragon's Dogma Online until I saw the combat. I love the feel of the combat in DD1 and DD2, but in DDO you feel like an anime protagonist, and it really defeats the whole feel of the game for me.
This is actually something I can very much understand, I think that's a perfectly valid reason to be turned away. I believe, since Itsuno was the DMC guy, he wanted Dogma to contrast that with more methodical combat. While I think DD2 can go too far in this direction (typically in regards to the systems surrounding combat rather than the actual combat itself) I think it's entirely fair to say that DDO sprints in the opposite direction, more resembling the DMC games Itsuno likely wanted them to contrast.
The high scepter job is very flashy compared to all the others. It came out close to the end of life of the game. I would say comparing combat between the three games, the one thing I kinda don't like is this rage and stamina shield mechanic. I think it mainly only exists in the season 1 bosses. They ended up adding different mechanics like infected and war ready. I assume they did this to slow down dps of 4 well geared players but it makes solo play with pawns sometimes boring.
