Why shouldn't we use the Keycap and Switch puller? Seems like a lot of videos about this keyboard says this what recommendations you have for different ones or where could I buy one? I don't really plan on heavily modding anything but changing out a few keycaps is all. I don't really mind the sound but it is a personal preference anyways
You can use them, they just aren’t easy to use. The keycap puller can scuff the caps if not careful, watch out for the caps next to the one you are removing too. I struggle to use that small switch puller at all. I am glad they include them for those who don’t have them. If you only plan to swap a few accent keycaps then you should be fine. If you get a whole set they they will probably come with one.
Great review, just had a question I don't think it has the ability to turn the sound up or down through the keyboard itself Do you know a way or that is actually the case they just decided not to put it?
Thanks for watching and good question. I'm an Apple guy and the function row defaults to media keys on a Mac. I looked around the interwebs and at Redragon's documentation and sadly there is no mention of Volume controls. I think it should be built into the board itself, but you should be able to use the software which is Windows only to assign Volume controls.
Is there any space between the plastic plate and pcb? I think the ridges on the plastic plate might be too thick to allow a plate foam to be placed between the pcb and plate.
There is, but not much. Plate foam is probably too thick to work with this plate. PE foam will most likely work though as there is still a thin gap. Good eye! Most plates don't have all those ridges.

Yes, I’m a Mac guy actually. I'd suggest going into Settings, Keyboard and switch the Option and Command keys to match an Apple keyboard. It doesn't have any Mac software so I use Karabiner-Elements for remapping a few keys.
well why do yo need prtsc when you can just pres window+shift+ s and its even better then prtsc, because you can screenshot the thing you really want and not just the full screen
True, and it is. But you can set that to activate when Print Screen is activated so you can trigger it with one key press, unless it doesn't exist. Obviously not a deal breaker for most people, but just something I would like to have.
Hi! I recently changed the stock outemu reds for ktt mints, most of them seem to be working just fine but sometimes they lose contact and I have to bent the pins down a little bit for them to start making contact again, I was wondering if this problem is pcb related or could it be the switches? also would soldering them fix the problem? Thanks in advance.
Sounds like it's the switches. Usually when I bend a pin, I put a different switch in. Sometimes the alignment is just a bit off, so make sure you are pushing straight down and stop if it just isn't going in. You can usually just bend the pins back to the correct position or straighten them back out if they get squished, but sometimes they just won't fit in a hotswap socket anymore. Soldering would just ruin the hotswap socket, so i don't suggest it.
Looking at this board since it is half price(Blue switches) How does the blue switches compare to red? I play competitive fps , would you suggest and would you take the blue Variant?
Blue switches are clicky and also give a tactile bump when pressing down. Outemu Blues tend to be loud, scratchy and high pitched. Red switches are pretty light to press down and linear, which is no bump or feed back until you bottom out. Blues work just fine though and you could always change them out later if you determine you don’t like them. I had them in my first board and did casual FPS gaming with them just fine. Your team will be able to hear them (and anyone else in the house) so that might be something to think about. Red switches do actuate (trigger) a little easier than blues so that may be desired as well. Personally I would go with Reds if specifically for gaming, but either one will work just fine really.
Okay so I have a question I have this same keyboard and I don't want to change or lube the keys just want to add foam and tape so can I unscrew the base while the switches are still attached ? Or removing the switches is must? Cause I'm really having a hard time while pulling the switched and I've already damaged two. Thanks!
Hello mine arrived yesterday and it's my 1st ever mechanical keyboard and I love it. I am a total noob in the mechanical keyboard world , what kinda foam does it have to be and can I buy it locally in a shop and will it make a difference in sound?
Welcome to the hobby! I use EVA phone as it dampens the higher frequencies which helps get rid of the pingy sound. You can just use craft foam and double up on the deeper parts of the case.
That is true. But like any other preference, I like the 1 button press to activate that. I do enough screen shots at work that it saves me some time. The biggest issue I have with it is that Redragon had that functionality on another one of their 60% boards, so it makes no sense to take the time to remove that ability! Not a show stopper by any means, but convenience. Thanks for watching!
@@keyboardstransformed True. Um, also. I was planning to get this. Would you still recommend it unlubed? Because I don't know how to lube it, and I have no lube...
@@scrooj I personally think all switches need lubed (most need filmed too). It will certainly work fine as is though, until you decide to go down that path. That's why I like prebuilt boards so much, they are 100% usable on day one with nothing else required. You can mod as you wish as time goes on when money and parts become available.
Yeah, they are basically the same board, but there are a few different switch and color options for the K630 so just watch what your selection is. Either board would be fine. I haven't looked recently but the K617 used to only have Red switches available, where the K630 had the standard Red, Blue or Brown. (FYI, Blue switches get annoying after a while, if not for you at least for those around you)
To be honest, probably not. I have 4 videos that have been recorded and are waiting to be edited and posted. but 2 of them I do the Tape mod on, so be sure to check them out. But there is nothing that can't be undone with the tape mod, so I think you should just try it and see if you like it! If you don't, then just carefully peel the tape off and put it back together. Give it a try.
Haha, i'm surprised no one had said anything yet! Because I was a computer tech for 20 years and watched people screw things up because they weren’t paying attention to what they were doing. Great Video, newbie here also planning to mod, what kind of switch is that imean the Stock one idk what's that and does 5g of Krytox 205g will be enough? also what kind of screwdriver you use size
Thanks for watching! The stock switches were just Outemu Reds. 5ml of 205g0 should be enough for at least 2 boards, if not, then you are over lubing. It's just a small phillips screw driver, like a glasses set would have.
Personally I used akko radiant reds on this board, I love it but I need to foam mod it since its very hollow rn. But my only problem is that the stem of the keycaps keep breaking but idk how to fix it.
Yeah, it needs the foam in it. I'm wanting to try the Radiant Reds, but been sidetracked by other switches. Are you pulling straight up when removing the keycaps? I haven't had any problem with mine. Contact support at Redragon unless you are going to replace them anyways.
You can try holding FN + ESC down for 3 seconds to do a factory reset, or use the software to program it back to a "?". Try the Redragon Discord or support if those don't work.
Haha, that is true, but I wanted to try out a 60% so this was the perfect candidate at the time. This implementation of arrow keys do not work for me so I’m trying another one to see how that works. The iLovBee i61 stay tuned for that.
is there any hidden screws tho? i cant remove my plate, please reply asap! edit: i found the culprit but it's not a screw it's like a lock and seems impossible to remove anyone help
As long as you have all the screws out, the plate should come out. Start by pulling the back (number row) up first. Sometimes you have to gently pry it up.
@@keyboardstransformed already got it XD i found a different way, i cant just pull the plate on the number row coz my fingers hurt pulling the switches

Great Video! Instant sub for me! :) I find it very easy to actuate the space bar sometimes. I accidentally hit it bcoz of my typing style maybe. I was thinking about getting new switches with higher actuation force than these reds. I checked out your list and sadly can't find most of them in India at a good price. Can someone help me find higher force switches(maybe 65+ not sure about this I just read it somewhere). Or maybe a MOD which can increase the actuation on the Space bar. I'm fairly new at this, sorry If I sound dumb :(
Thanks, I appreciate the sub! I often find Reds are a little light for me as well. I have a few boards with them in there, but I end up putting a Black on the spacebar. One thing that might work for you is to spring swap in the switches. I will also do this sometimes for just the spacebar. I have to have 60+ or I trigger it often. I don't know of any specific stores in India as i'm in the US, but if you look for springs you should be able to find some that will at least ship there. When you take the switch apart to lube and film it, it takes no more effort to change the springs out. That is what controls the actuation force, the lighter the spring, the easier to press down.
@@keyboardstransformed Do I have to find a compatible spring? I can see a cherry X spring on amazon for a good deal but I wasn't sure if i can fit it in there. Also they are 80g force
Preference! I’m not a huge fan of that marbley pop sound and I felt this board sounded good without it. I am editing a video right now where I do the tape mod. It’s on the CIY X77, watch for it. Update (that video is out now) >>> ua-cam.com/video/gMqSwqvy2n4/v-deo.html
I have heard that the Cherry MX brand switches do not work in Outemu sockets (which this board has). I don’t have any to test out, but I pinned a comment (should be on top) that lists known switches that do work in Outemu sockets.
I was about to ask this for one time and to be surely to have perfect answer cause alot of people says its only compatible with other red dragon switches like i dont get it. And akko CS and Gateron says it wont fit.. I need a real answer im so confused +-+
The discussion of this is pinned at the top, but the summary is this... Outemu Hotswap Sockets (which this board and most Redragon boards use) require thinner pins on the switches. Outemu & Redragon switches are compatible of course and so are the AKKO CS line of switches. There are a few others that are, but most are not (including Gateron). I updated my pinned comment at the top to the latest known compatible switches.
badly wanna mod my keyboard but i have no lube, and switch opener or something i only did a masking tape mod on it with 3 layers sounds good but my keys with stabilizer doesnt sound appealing
Start small, don't think you have to do everything at once if you don't have the budget for it. Lube will be the main thing to help the stabs, but you can get a small tube of dielectric grease for only a few dollars and that will still let you get several keyboards modded out of it.
That was actually just to illustrate what I wish they had done. Unfortunately I don’t think you can remap the FN key so this can’t be implemented on the keyboard.
It partly depends on if you want a black or white (grey/pink) board. I don’t have any experience with the Lakshmi (I can’t even order it here in the US), but it looks to only be rainbow LEDs and not true RGB (which the Fizz is). It also might depend on what switches you are able to order it with. The Fizz came with only Reds which I prefer out of the main three types. All in all they seem to be pretty much the same board other than the few things I mentioned. Good luck in your purchase!
Lol, because I was a computer tech for 20 years and watched people screw things up because they weren’t paying attention to what they were doing. When you engage the Function key, the keyboard will function differently, so I use a clicky switch to make sure you notice what you are doing!

hello i just got mine too! But idk why the menu key does not light up with the self define mode in the lighting software. Only in that setting. Sometimes it’s not working too. Is it an issue of my unit or is it common?
Bummer, I haven't heard or seen that anywhere. Mine is fine. If you press and hold FN+ESC it should reset to factory default, you might try that. Otherwise contact them for support, they should stand by their products.
@@keyboardstransformed it would only work if i reset it but it would not work again if i set something in the software. I don't use the key anyways. But damn, removing switches in this keyboard is such a hassle. I broke 2 switches and a pin got left on the pcb. Any tips on removing them?
@@rdhdhn Yeah, the plate holds in the switches pretty tight. There were a few I had to really fight and got a bit damaged. Are you using a better switch puller than the one they sent with the board? Also try a pair of small needle nose pliers to pull the broken pins out.
@@keyboardstransformed yeah i bought a diff puller with longer handle. The stuck pins were so hard to pull out since its so short i tried pulling it one pin out with a tweezer but it kept slipping. But I think I might have lifted one up a bit because reattaching the switch to it does not work. I'll try your suggestion with a pliers! Hope it works!
@@dragtr0n Ya know, i'm not sure. I do know that the Pandas do, but that doesn't mean that Lynx will. I did some digging and the pins look the same, and the legs would need clipped, but that's not a definitive answer. I'll keep digging.

GREAT VIDS! Do I still need to remove the switches when doing a tape mod? Thanks!
No. Just be careful not to push them out when pushing the tape onto the board. The switches were in really tight so shouldn’t have any problems.
I buy this keyboard ! Good vídeo ! 🇧🇷🇧🇷

How did you manage to do 2 colors RGB? because I can't, and I use the Fizz K617 too. Same as the one in the video.
FN + ALT cycles through the RGB effects. I have a still shot in there where it was rotating colors. The Windows only software can customize that though.

I have this keyboard and I would like to change the switches to Akko Starfish MX switch. Do you think it would fit on the sockets of Redragon Fizz? Thank you!
Yes, Outemu, Akko & Glorious Panda switches will fit in this board.
@@keyboardstransformed Thank you so much! 😊
What a great videooo may i ask? is it compatible for Mac Os?
Hello sir, what switches are compatible with this keyboard? Sorry I'm new to keyboard world.
Outemu & Akko switches and Glorious Pandas fit the Outemu hot-swap sockets. Most other switches do not, the pins are larger.
Looking at this board since it is half price(Blue switches)
How does the blue switches compare to red?
Thanks!
You just have to remove some keycaps to get to the screws. Might have to pull the switches to get the stabs out of you want to mod them.
Good video, but the thing is, you just do win+shift+s to screen snip, print screen isn't needed anymore.
@@keyboardstransformed Ok cool, thanks for the info, you earnt my sub!
@@scrooj Thank you! I appreciate that!
I am confused between k630 and k617. What do u think is better? My primary usecase will be typing/coding
Yeah, they are basically the same board, but there are a few different switch and color options for the K630 so just watch what your selection is. Either board would be fine. I haven't looked recently but the K617 used to only have Red switches available, where the K630 had the standard Red, Blue or Brown. (FYI, Blue switches get annoying after a while, if not for you at least for those around you)
Hey, can you please make a video about tape modding this keyboard?
To be honest, probably not. I have 4 videos that have been recorded and are waiting to be edited and posted. but 2 of them I do the Tape mod on, so be sure to check them out. But there is nothing that can't be undone with the tape mod, so I think you should just try it and see if you like it! If you don't, then just carefully peel the tape off and put it back together. Give it a try.
the blue switch
Haha, i'm surprised no one had said anything yet! Because I was a computer tech for 20 years and watched people screw things up because they weren’t paying attention to what they were doing. When you engage the Function key, the keyboard will function differently, so I use a clicky switch to make sure you notice what you are doing!

@@keyboardstransformed alright thanks :)

As long as you have all the screws out, the plate should come out. Start by pulling the back (number row) up first. Sometimes you have to gently pry it up.

How to print screen
You can setup Macros via the Redragon software. I'm a Mac guy, so I use different software (Karabiner-Elements) to set it up.

Any spring designed for a mechanical keyboard switch will work.

is it possible to get the stabs out without sperating the pcb and plate? im scared that i might break the board if i pull too much on the switches xdd

Hey i wanna ask, what profile are the keycaps? I just wanna know because some of the switches i have don’t fit on the board
The keycaps that come with the board are OEM Profile, they are just a bit taller than Cherry.

You will be able to leave the switches in. Just be careful and mindful of what you are doing and then you should be fine. Happy modding!
Is it there any mechanical TKL keyboard under 60-70$ to sound thocky without moding it?
Not that I can think of. Thock doesn't come at that price range. You can achieve it in that price range, but not off the shelf.
Why u didn’t add a tape mode?
Preference! I’m not a huge fan of that marbley pop sound and I felt this board sounded good without it. I am editing a video right now where I do the tape mod. It’s on the CIY X77, watch for it. Update (that video is out now) >>> ua-cam.com/video/gMqSwqvy2n4/v-deo.html
are the screw placing the same with redragon lakshmi?
Yes, I believe that the screws are located in the same place on the board.
Does Cherry MX Brown switches will fit this keyboard?

Yes, I'm an Apple guy myself. I use Karabiner-Elements to assign keys.

Yes. It comes with a right angle cable that is white.
Have the same keyboard but my K,I,8 and < is not working even if i changed switches. Is this internal damage?
Yeah, that sounds like a problem with the PCB. Contact Redragon support to see what they can do for you.
How to change volume in it?
You would have to use the software to set that up in a layer. For Mac users, it's just a function row key.
can i use any keycaps for this keyboard?
You should be able to. It has a standard 60% layout so even keycaps listed for a 104 key keyboard will work. What are you looking at getting?
badly wanna mod my keyboard but i have no lube, and switch opener or something i only did a masking tape mod on it with 3 layers sounds good but my keys with stabilizer doesnt sound appealing
Start small, don't think you have to do everything at once if you don't have the budget for it. Lube will be the main thing to help the stabs, but you can get a small tube of dielectric grease for only a few dollars and that will still let you get several keyboards modded out of it.
What is the spacebar size ? I NEED TO BUY A DUROCK STABILIZER FOR THE SPACEBARRR😭
lol, it is the standard 6.25 spacebar
How did you key bind arrows keys to the bottom side? i have the exact same keyboard :D
That was actually just to illustrate what I wish they had done. Unfortunately I don’t think you can remap the FN key so this can’t be implemented on the keyboard.
....how do you toggle keyboard profiles without having to go into the software?
There is usually a key combo that will put it in the different layers.
what's better? lakshmi or fizz? and why? tia!
Why do you have a singular blue switch on the fn key?
Lol, because I was a computer tech for 20 years and watched people screw things up because they weren’t paying attention to what they were doing. When you engage the Function key, the keyboard will function differently, so I use a clicky switch to make sure you notice what you are doing!

hello i just got mine too! But idk why the menu key does not light up with the self define mode in the lighting software. Only in that setting. Sometimes it’s not working too. Is it an issue of my unit or is it common?

@@rdhdhn Yeah, the plate holds in the switches pretty tight. There were a few I had to really fight and got a bit damaged. Are you using a better switch puller than the one they sent with the board? Also try a pair of small needle nose pliers to pull the broken pins out.
