      The lack of an outlined protocol really bothers me. Parents have to spend far too much time troubleshooting.
      Their lives are too precious for that!

    During the day my baby newborn eats, sleeps, and breathing is fine but at night she has these episodes where she wakes herself up grunting and taking short fast breathes and gets fussy, they last about 30 seconds. It worries me so much, any idea on what it could be?

    • @drmonicaflorez3836
      @drmonicaflorez3836  2 роки тому

      The symptom should be the same day or night. If it is reflux (food regurgitating to esophagus or out the mouth), baby would get symptom day or night after a full feeding, and worse with laying down. If due to milk protein intolerance baby would be uncomfortable day and night - maybe worse at night, since ALL symptoms seem to enhance at night due to natural low defenses in the patient and lack of sleep in the parent. If the symptom comes only at a particular time then the clue to figuring out the cause, medical or otherwise, is to know what is DIFFERENT in the way the baby is fed or put to sleep or positioned etc that makes the symptom come on only that particular time.

    My baby has chest retractions and multiple of her doctors know about it and have done nothing. She's low birth weight and premature. She's had them for at least two months now. ENT wanted chest and neck x-rays, but they never called me back about when. The nurse said "we'll call you when we're ready". She also wanted me back two weeks later, but her office staff said i can't come back for at least a month because she's booked up. I hate dealing with doctors and I'm so worried for my baby. But she doesn't seem to have any distress other than the retractions. She plays and cries normally. No blue color or nasal flares

    • @drmonicaflorez3836
      @drmonicaflorez3836  3 роки тому +2

      You are right to be worried and need to keep pushing for an answer, even if at the end the answer it is something she will outgrow. Many times the doctor is not aware of the issues with the staff. YOUR BABY (and you for peace of mind) NEED THE TESTS, the ENT is on the right track. Call the office daily and GET THE NAME OF THE PERSON WHO SAYS they are doing the referral and WHEN it will be ready, do this for a few days in a row and if you still don't get the refer make another appointment with the doctor, if unable to get in, ask to speak to the office manager, send the doctor a portal message DIRECTLY. Be respectful but persistent YOU ARE THE PARENT, the doctor ordered the test, THE STAFF NEEDS TO MAKE IT HAPPEN!

    At what age is a baby still considered a newborn? And when does their breathing start to regulate?

    • @drmonicaflorez3836
      @drmonicaflorez3836  3 роки тому +4

      The newborn period lasts until the first month of life BUT their breathing can stay different than ours past that, ESPECIALLY if they are chunky - the neck fat will push on their voice box and still cause the "stuffy" breathing long past the first month. As ALWAYS ANY doubts - make a video (preferred) of your concern (better if good lighting and baby is naked from belly up and take it to your pediatrician! Sorry for the late reply the technology is still new to me!

    Hi Dr. I have a six weeks old baby. ever since born he sound congested evry night and frst thing in the morning when he only just woke up but his nose is not runny and he cough sometimes. Please inlighten me im worried and dont know what to do. Thank u

    • @drmonicaflorez3836
      @drmonicaflorez3836  Рік тому

      If his growth has been doing well regards to his height and weight gain. He does not have issues, shortness of breath etc. when he eats he does not have a runny nose or cough and most importantly he has been checked out by your primary care doctor, then more than likely he has normal congested breathing to due to normal baby, small nose, fat cheeks, fat neck, and soft, tracheal anatomy but anytime you have issues or concerns. Please make sure you have your baby examined and evaluated by your primary care physician.

    Hello, my baby grunts and make a lot of noise very often. Should i be worry? He grunts even though he’s not pooping. Not 20second long but like a small grunt every now and then

    • @drmonicaflorez3836
      @drmonicaflorez3836  3 роки тому +1

      Depends on the noise that he is making how long it lasts and what else he is doing when he makes it. The best course of action is to get several small video clips of it as naked as possible so that your pediatrician can observe his chest and face. Then make an appointment with your provider preferably live so they can listen to the lungs heart etc. Also observe him when he eats and see if he has any difficulty. In my practice I prefer to see a mom and baby 15 times and reassure them versus Mami waiting and it being something dangerous. Babies are completely different from big people they do weird things that are normal and their normal things are weird. Make an appointment with your provider ASAP if you are worried

    can overfeeding cause rapid breathing? thanks doc

    • @drmonicaflorez3836
      @drmonicaflorez3836  Рік тому

      If overfeeding results in overweight than it can cause congested breathing, if the nipple size is too large, and the baby is receiving too much milk at a time that can cause difficulty breathing but anytime a baby has rapid breathing with feeding I would worry about his lungs and heart, and I would have him examined by a primary care physician

    Opinion please. My baby is 3 months old and has been having constant mild subcostal retractions. I took her to the ER. Her chest X-Ray came back clear and they deep suctioned her. She’s still having constant mild retractions two weeks later, even after a follow up with the pediatrician. She says it’s nothing to worry about since she’s not in distress or nostril flaring. Is this okay? Where do I go from here?

      Usually 6 months of age babies are breathing like adults, and should not have any heavy initial breaths. If it continues, please have it checked out. They may still sound congested if they are excellent eaters

    • @drmonicaflorez3836
      @drmonicaflorez3836  Рік тому

      Fast breathing can be normal you should count the number of breaths in a minute by watching her chest come in and out normal babies especially newborns will breathe 40 to 60 times per minute as long as she is feeding and growing well not working hard to breathe by grunting flaring, her nose or retracting her chest and she has been checked out by her primary care physician. It may be normal.

    • @drmonicaflorez3836

      See if you can check her oxygen saturation either with an owlet (expensive) if unable speak to your PRIMARY. The job of the ER is to make sure the patient is not in ACUTE distress. Show your primary the videos see if they will allow you to stay in the waiting room to check her oxygen when she is asleep (they should have the machine to do so) check to make sure baby is gaining weight and ask for a cardiologist evaluation sometimes retractions are not from the lungs but from the heart. Good luck! Keep looking for answers to make sure the retractions are normal!!!

      At his age considerations would be laryngomalcia, GERD, food allergies to name a few, make an appointment with your pediatrician, consider a visit a refer to an ENT where they can scope (look at his larynx with a camera). If you are worried continue to seek help

      The advice I give my parents is to make a video clip of his breathing - audio and video preferably from chest up naked when he is breathing funny - that way you can make a visit and review the video with your pediatrician to see if it is worrisome! I prefer to see my patients well 15 times then very sick once!!!

      Normal rate of breathing can be up to 60 times per minute. Try counting the breaths. Make sure your doctor has checked her oxygen level and heart sounds BUT if the baby is gaining weight well and not getting tired when she feeds more than likely she has normal breathing

      60 is the upper limit of normal for newborn respiratory rate so definitely mention it to your primary care provider and if baby seems tired with eating or is not growing well ask for a work up!
