Thats heartbreaking to see a tiny baby suffering.. they cannot tell anyone whats happening to them.☹️☹️☹️ im a mom to be and i cannot think my baby suffering for anything in this world. I pray to God he keep everyones baby healthy and happy.. 🙏 i have become too emotional ever since i got pregnant🥲
I feel the same way, I wanted to cry for them. They’re so fragile & helpless . I pray that no baby has to go through any form of suffering. 🙏🏼 Sometimes I don’t even want to watch the news involving babies. My knees would feel very weak & I’d feel sick in my stomach

Just got out of the NICU today. The nurses caught the grunting and shallow breathing sound shortly after birth and we were admitted into the NICU for 9 days. Now we are sitting here at home and terrified at every noise. It's not easy to decipher these noises, stay strong and use instincts.
Me too. Still can’t believe we walked out of the hospital without jaundice or other issues. My friends had told me all about what they went through with their newborns
None of this is considered an unhealthy baby & everything can be fixed, it’s very insensitive of you to say that under a post where there are mothers whose babies have had these issues. Enjoy your healthy babies without letting the world know.

@@nakiasmith4553 same with my baby, He's been in NICU for 11 days he has TTN and Pneumonia. He's 1 month old now and sometimes there's a sound when he's breathing while he's sleeping and drinking milk in a bottle also he's grunting as well. how is your baby doing now? I hope he's okay
@@fran_flor he's doing ok he had to go to 2 specialist they said he might would need surgery but with his age and the risk of the surgery they said they wouldn't risk him because the surgery is very complicated and risky. They say he should grow out of it by the time he's one he should be just fine.

Maybe because of the weather here in the Philippines, it can get very hot in here. Maybe He's still adjusting. I'm praying that everything will be fine for our babies ❤️
Great content with very clear illustrations of what to look for. I have one small suggestion: Parents should NOT depend on resolving any questions about cyanosis, apnea, jaundice, or abnormal breathing patterns with a phone call. Be proactive and TAKE YOUR BABY TO THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT if you see any of those signs. It is impossible to accurately diagnose and monitor an infant over the telephone, even if you send texted photos. Reassurance is worth it, and nobody will fault parents for being vigilant. Better safe than sorry!
That's good suggest but when they said "contact a member of your healthcare team", I think they were referring to medical personnel and not the parents
My daughter was born 5 weeks early & had jaundice. We got discharged from the hospital and then by her 3rd day of follow up, her levels were high enough for her to need phototherapy. I was so scared but glad she was treated when she was. They say jaundice levels are majorly concerned w| in the first 3-5 days so they can regulate it and then let the levels plateau. Scary experience but I’m glad I went through that for my first baby so I know what to look for next time + she loved the heat/lights of phototherapy lol! @@victoriapadron3809 same! That’s what I did for the first 48 hrs at home. So tues/wed she was in her bassinet by the window every hr unless she was feeding. I went in w| her Thursday (by this day she was 5 days old) they did a check at her well visit, sent me for the bloodwork and called me to admit her within 2 hrs bc the levels were increasing not decreasing. We did the phototherapy at the hospital for almost 24hrs and then they started to plateau. She loved the little box they put them in lol. I’m just happy they caught it right away. 🤍
Me and my wife have our first baby, birn 12/31/21 and also suffered from jaundice, actually you will never believe me right now.. we just got home after the phototherapy he had for 3 days.. glad his ok now. But the 2nd thing is his tsh level were ao high on the normal level. But he's taking his medicine now levothyroxine, hope he'll be ok soon, I can't stand watching him crying on every needle they insert his viens for the test...just keep postive, always!! THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video. It randomly came up on Autoplay for me about a week ago and I watched it because it seemed short and interesting. Yesterday, I noticed some of these signs in my baby even though they seemed relatively okay otherwise, but remembering this video I called for advice and they sent the paramedics out to me immediately! Almost spent a night in the hospital but luckily they were well enough to be let out, but monitored. I would not have noticed my kid was in distress without having watched this!
Grunting is absolutely normal in most babies but this video didn't specify that. Grunting coupled with the other symptoms IS a medical emergency. Secondly as a 911 dispatcher, no one is ever going to deny you an ambulance for a medical issue especially not for a baby. So of course they sent paramedics to you. The fact that your baby was not deemed ill enough to be kept in the hospital is a great thing and I'm glad to hear it. Just wanted to clarify those other points though.
@@cherrypie7861 That is true, but my baby was actually in distress- they were given oxygen as had low oxygen and high blood pressure and the only reason we ended up not staying in the hospital is because we were assigned community nurses to come look in on us every few hours at home. I was told that it was good I brought them in early, as they had a virus that would have gotten much worse as quickly as overnight and could have been dangerous for how young they were. I think this video did a great job of showcasing potentially abnormal signs that a lot of parents wouldn't be certain about otherwise
My daughter is a pre mature baby... After c-section, the doctor immediately said baby is under distress and have grunting issues. She was in NICU for a week. Also she had jaundice. For next 1 month, we used to monitor her bilirubin levels weekly. Showing her in sunlight and constant feeding is the only things we can do from our side. Those days, I used to see her eyes closely whether the yellowness reduced or not. Those days are nightmare.
My baby had breathing issues the night after he was born. He sounded like the grunting noise. Luckily we were in the hospital still and a nurse caught it ❤️
Did they do anything about it ? Because my baby is home and he does that sometimes and sometimes it seems like he's having trouble breathing but they always say it's normal for him to breathe like that and that it's how babies breathe
@@nyysharee5798 hey i just had a newborn and my doctor said the noise is from possible amniotic fluid still in the respiratory system and their respiratory system is just still very soft and weak so they may breathe that way when in certain positions or if they’re sleeping deep enough. i would say if it’s consistent ask your doctor. idk how old your baby is but mine is a week now and they definitely grow out of it as they get older. also check for boogers because that ended up being part of the problem for us.
@@briannablakeman thank you for this .. he's 5 weeks now but I can say it's seemed to have gotten better I seen his doctor and she showed me what I should look for if I think he's struggling to breathe and he had covid also so that could've been a struggle for him too but any mother knows their baby and if something is scaring you your natural instinct is to react it's so scary when they're so little because it's like they can't tell you anything and if somethings really wrong you have to guess or assume.. when he was breathing funny I was so scared I ended up staying up all night with him and when I did fall asleep when I woke back up I was checking to make sure he was still breathing that's how scary it is
@@nyysharee5798 oh trust me i know, my baby is a week old and i’ve slept maybe two hours a night because i just get so worried. they make all kinds of funky noises during sleep and it’s just our natural instinct as mothers to worry but i’m sure you’re doing a great job ❤️
@@briannablakeman I just had my baby today and she grunts and actually spit up clear muscus like spit, almost choked on it and turned blue and I panicked but the doctor helped me out, I had asked why is grunting and sounding like she is having sinus problems and sound like she's having a hard time to breath and they said the same thing your doc said, her heart and lungs came back healthy, her pulse also. But it just worries me because of the grunting sound. How did you get through it? How long does it last?
My baby sister is coming home next week and her and our brother (they are both premie twins) have had breathing problems and they have to be able to breathe for 5+ days to be able to come home. So she has been doing good but I’m nervous that doctors and nurses won’t be right there if there are any complications. This video was very helpful!

My 3rd child did this for 24 hrs. He had some fluid in his lungs during birth and doctor kept slapping the bottoms of his feet to make him cry in order to clear it. It scared me but he’s 35 years old. And doing great
My daughter was a preemie and was jaundice. She was kept in the hospital for four days, and was only allowed to leave if I brought her back in daily for a week straight for them to check her bilirubin levels. She was a nortorious grunter during those first few weeks of life.
@@saraporter4559 they did UV light treatments on her for two days straight in the hospital. I wasn't allowed to take her out of the sack unless she was eating or getting a new diaper. Her levels were low enough for her to go home but she still had to be checked daily for some time. Her jaundice didn't go away for about a month. We just kept an eye on it but thankfully the levels stayed low enough that she didn't need treatment after those first two days.

what this video fails to mention is that grunting is NORMAL in newborns - it's air moving across the vocal cords. it is ABNORMAL if the span lasts longer than 15 seconds, especially if persistently loud and/or accompanied by nasal flaring which means the baby is struggling to get enough oxygen - these are signs of respiratory distress. i usually really like the nucleus videos but they dropped the ball on this one imo. you have to know what is normal to know what isn't! ETA: If you are a worried parent, trust your instincts. It is always better to go to the ER and be told your baby is in perfect health than to stay home hoping everything is fine when it isn't. Babies with respiratory problems tend to compensate okay for a while, then crash fast. A video and an online comment should never be substitutes for a physician's assessment.

My baby's used to grunt, never had any other problems mentioned on the video... I just had the instinct to take my shirt and my bra off to bond with them watched them fall sleep till they slobber and snore. IT ALWAYS WORKED FOR ME. Specially with there heads turned to the side but face down.
@@ariannadhaarmik1864 I had him sleeping on my chest sometimes and I was on 2 pillows. We also bedshare/cosleep. It worked or just having him sleep next to me in the bed. The risk of bedsharing is up to you. I did a video on that. He’s now almost 11 months and sleeps better than my first child so it won’t last forever.
Same here. Though he still does it now and then but as soon as I put him on my chest, he sleeps normally and until he’s in deep sleep, I then move him to bed. He’s 6 weeks
@@jenniferforson618I’m not sure if you are still worrying or if this will even help, but my daughter did it excessively after birth because she was born so quick that she had fluid in her lungs but she quit completely like a week after birth.
@P S your nieces pediatrician needs to contacted. It's always best to get her checked out even at the slightest feeling that something is wrong. Better safe than sorry.
I think, if a baby is grunting, he/she wouldn't be able to cry.. as grunting means lung/breathing problem. while babies who are crying indicates ability to breath properly.
They can talk to you, you just have to know how to listen. There body language & there sounds is what you have to be in tune with at this age, & trust your instincts a little. You'll get more right then wrong. And when you children grow up string & healthy You'll have a wonderful, living relationship with them, because you took the time to know your baby fro. The beginning.
But newborns will also hold their breath for different intervals, breath heavily with their diaphram, do large inhales and exhales all just figuring out their whole breathing thing. Like these are "warning signs" but they are also just things newborns do to figure out life out here.
@@aimankhalid5222 if the jaundice is a problem then the doctors will let you know and give the proper care baby needs. My daughter had jaundice pretty bad and had to stay in the incubator under the lights in the hospital for 4 days. When it still wasn't better we were sent home with a bili blanket we had to use for two weeks. All you can really do yourself is making sure they're fed well and have a good amount of poops. Pooping helps get rid of jaundice. Also we were told to bring our daughter out into the sunlight for a lion bit a few times a day which helps too. Your doctor will let you know if the jaundice is a problem and if more care is needed. If they didn't instruct you to do anything then it's not a worry. Majority of babies are born with some level of jaundice but once they start eating and popping it will usually clear up.

My baby had jaundice, I kept telling the dr that the white part if his eyes were too yellow and I really didn't want to be discharged(he was two days old). We had to go back a week later for him to be put under phototherapy. .the dr said that at the time,his levels were normal.. I just knew. Trust your gut .
Physiological Jaundice is normal in babies from day 2 to day 14 . And many go home safely . You need to see a dr. if your baby develops jaundice in the first 24h of his life , if his physiological jaundice persists more than 2 weeks , or if he becomes lethargic,drowsy, feeds poorly ..ect . They'll check the Bilirubin level & if it's high he'll be put under phototherapy . The dr. Was right & so were you ! Always trust your gut
My son was kept for phototherapy for infant jaundice on the 4th day after he was born and then discharged in 24 hrs....we took him to home and came after 2 dats to check the bilirubin levels ot was quite high.. again he was kept for phototherapy....but then i came to know that my feed was not enough and due to hydration issue the levels got quite high..so parents if ur babies bilirubin levels are not going down ...do once check your feed ... dehydration can cause high bilirubin in newborns
I lost my baby last week, just barely 24 hours after birth. Baby was ok, after a while she became motionless, no pulse. Efforts were made to resuscitate her but to no avail. Please what could have been the problem? I need answers please. Though before then glucose water was given to her but she had difficulty taking it in. A tube was put down her inside to suck out the fluid.
My baby has all of the breathing ones all of the time 😓 he has a lot of complex needs and is very poorly. It’s very hard to distinguish when my son actually needs medical attention due to this, as he usually does these things even when he is considered well! So when we go into hospital all the staff panic if they don’t know him! It’s very scary for other people as these are the usual warning signs

is grunting a continuous noise ? sometimes my baby makes a weird noise but it’s only when he’s waking up and stretching or moving around, it kind of sounds like the grunting, but it’s not exactly like it, and it stops only after a couple seconds if that, so I don’t think it’s grunting, but was wondering if grunting is a continuous sound over and over again.

During labor and through the birth canal, fetus' catecholamines are substantially elevated, promoting clearance of fluids from the lungs. There is some elevation during late gestation as well, which is why preterm babies are at greatest risk for breathing problems in addition to surfactant deficiency.
Video only took in consideration of caucasian babies. Dark-skin people and babies may exhibit signs that are like cyanosis but are not. The same for erythema and pallor.
@@hopeful_krystal Even it my nursing textbooks. They look at both signs for Caucasians and non Caucasians for cyanosis. This is why it's important to not really on UA-cam videos on conduct personal research. UA-cam videos can medically and terminally be inaccurate
Practically every baby grunts or has odd breathing patterns at first. Id hope that most parents pay enough attention to their babies - to know when something is off.
When the lower parts of the airways and the little airsacks at the end of the airpipes in the lung collapses eg. with infection in the lower part of the lungs (pneumonia), it causes respiratiry distress due to less oxygen taken in by the lungs. In order to increase the pressure, to open the airsacks and distal small airpipes, the baby involuntarily and instinctively partially closes the upper part of the throat at the level of the vocal chords in order to breath out against resistance - thus increasing the pressure backwards in the lungs and thus opening up more of the collapsed airsacks and distal small airpipes to allow absorption of more oxygen. This exhaling against a partial closed throat / vocal chords, causes a grunting sound. It is like straining on the toilet! Try it yourselves to feel the effect of increasing the pressure in the lungs. In medical terms it is called peep (positive end expiratory pressure). Not to be confused with croup where there is mostly no lung problem, but only infection and swelling of the vocal chords which results in drooling and barking cough and stridor with breathing.
Hi..we have a newborn who came out of nicu just over a week ago after being in for nearly 3 weeks..due to pneumothorax and they also found pneumonia a day later...so I was interested in your comment as it seems you know your stuff..and we are still trying to get our heads around what happened to our baby..we were under the impression the collapsed lung happened at birth and the pneumonia was just bad luck on top of that..but it seems they might go hand in hand ???

I want to respond to your question by saying that is difficult and also unfair to comment on any case without all relevant information available I would strongly advise to discuss with the treating peadiatrician all the concerns and questions you may have, for going ahead with questions unanswered could lead to wrong assumptions and speculations. In general I can say that pneumothorax in newborns and neonatal period is not uncommon. Equally so with pneumonia in newborns. Pneumothorax could be spontaneous or as result of lung disease including pneumonia or occur during resuscitation or ventilation etc. So yes, the one may be complicated by the other, but not always so.
my baby was born on the 21st and had to go back for a jaundice test the 26, i just heard back that the test was good, there’s nothing to be worried about .. so i hope all is true 😩 this is really scart
with the physiological jaundice, it'll go away faster if the baby passes meconium (1st poop), and keeps pooping with good feeding. If blue light therapy makes no improvements on the baby within 2-3 days, it's probably some kind of hemolytic anemia-might require transfusion and further evaluation for diagnosis.
My baby is 3 weeks and he grunts all the time. It's usually when he is gassy I think. I try to pick him up and pat his back. Not sure if that actually does something to help, but after a bit he often farts or falls asleep and stops the grunting.
I’m glad someone commented this because my baby is 3 weeks old and he’s grunting. I’m taking him to the doc next week, but I assume it’s gassiness because he settles after I try to burp him for 10-15 minutes
If a baby has those breathing problems . It’s best to go see the doctor . I thought it normal for some baby but then they get stronger and stronger everyday . But always go see the doctor or pediatrician to go check up on baby to see if he’s going to be fine .

Usually when that happens you just need to put them by a window for 5-10 mins every hour until they arent yellow anymore

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video. It randomly came up on Autoplay for me about a week ago and I watched it because it seemed short and interesting. Yesterday, I noticed some of these signs in my baby even though they seemed relatively okay otherwise, but remembering this video I called for advice and they sent the paramedics out to me immediately! Almost spent a night in the hospital but luckily they were well enough to be let out, but monitored. I would not have noticed my kid was in distress without having watched this!
Grunting is absolutely normal in most babies but this video didn't specify that. Grunting coupled with the other symptoms IS a medical emergency.
Secondly as a 911 dispatcher, no one is ever going to deny you an ambulance for a medical issue especially not for a baby. So of course they sent paramedics to you.
The fact that your baby was not deemed ill enough to be kept in the hospital is a great thing and I'm glad to hear it. Just wanted to clarify those other points though.

That is true, but my baby was actually in distress- they were given oxygen as had low oxygen and high blood pressure and the only reason we ended up not staying in the hospital is because we were assigned community nurses to come look in on us every few hours at home.
I was told that it was good I brought them in early, as they had a virus that would have gotten much worse as quickly as overnight and could have been dangerous for how young they were.
I think this video did a great job of showcasing potentially abnormal signs that a lot of parents wouldn't be certain about otherwise
I'm due in February. I'll be sure to keep this information in mind

My daughter is a pre mature baby... After c-section, the doctor immediately said baby is under distress and have grunting issues. She was in NICU for a week. Also she had jaundice. For next 1 month, we used to monitor her bilirubin levels weekly. Showing her in sunlight and constant feeding is the only things we can do from our side. Those days, I used to see her eyes closely whether the yellowness reduced or not. Those days are nightmare.
How is she now?
She's fine and just now celebrated her 2nd birthday. Her growth milestones all are on progress. No issues

Did they do anything about it ? Because my baby is home and he does that sometimes and sometimes it seems like he's having trouble breathing but they always say it's normal for him to breathe like that and that it's how babies breathe
@@nyysharee5798 hey i just had a newborn and my doctor said the noise is from possible amniotic fluid still in the respiratory system and their respiratory system is just still very soft and weak so they may breathe that way when in certain positions or if they’re sleeping deep enough. i would say if it’s consistent ask your doctor. idk how old your baby is but mine is a week now and they definitely grow out of it as they get older. also check for boogers because that ended up being part of the problem for us.
@@briannablakeman thank you for this .. he's 5 weeks now but I can say it's seemed to have gotten better I seen his doctor and she showed me what I should look for if I think he's struggling to breathe and he had covid also so that could've been a struggle for him too but any mother knows their baby and if something is scaring you your natural instinct is to react it's so scary when they're so little because it's like they can't tell you anything and if somethings really wrong you have to guess or assume.. when he was breathing funny I was so scared I ended up staying up all night with him and when I did fall asleep when I woke back up I was checking to make sure he was still breathing that's how scary it is
@@nyysharee5798 oh trust me i know, my baby is a week old and i’ve slept maybe two hours a night because i just get so worried. they make all kinds of funky noises during sleep and it’s just our natural instinct as mothers to worry but i’m sure you’re doing a great job ❤️
@@briannablakeman I just had my baby today and she grunts and actually spit up clear muscus like spit, almost choked on it and turned blue and I panicked but the doctor helped me out, I had asked why is grunting and sounding like she is having sinus problems and sound like she's having a hard time to breath and they said the same thing your doc said, her heart and lungs came back healthy, her pulse also. But it just worries me because of the grunting sound. How did you get through it? How long does it last?
My baby sister is coming home next week and her and our brother (they are both premie twins) have had breathing problems and they have to be able to breathe for 5+ days to be able to come home. So she has been doing good but I’m nervous that doctors and nurses won’t be right there if there are any complications. This video was very helpful!

My 3rd child did this for 24 hrs. He had some fluid in his lungs during birth and doctor kept slapping the bottoms of his feet to make him cry in order to clear it. It scared me but he’s 35 years old. And doing great
My daughter was a preemie and was jaundice. She was kept in the hospital for four days, and was only allowed to leave if I brought her back in daily for a week straight for them to check her bilirubin levels. She was a nortorious grunter during those first few weeks of life.

@@saraporter4559 they did UV light treatments on her for two days straight in the hospital. I wasn't allowed to take her out of the sack unless she was eating or getting a new diaper. Her levels were low enough for her to go home but she still had to be checked daily for some time. Her jaundice didn't go away for about a month. We just kept an eye on it but thankfully the levels stayed low enough that she didn't need treatment after those first two days.

what this video fails to mention is that grunting is NORMAL in newborns - it's air moving across the vocal cords. it is ABNORMAL if the span lasts longer than 15 seconds, especially if persistently loud and/or accompanied by nasal flaring which means the baby is struggling to get enough oxygen - these are signs of respiratory distress. i usually really like the nucleus videos but they dropped the ball on this one imo. you have to know what is normal to know what isn't!
ETA: If you are a worried parent, trust your instincts. It is always better to go to the ER and be told your baby is in perfect health than to stay home hoping everything is fine when it isn't. Babies with respiratory problems tend to compensate okay for a while, then crash fast. A video and an online comment should never be substitutes for a physician's assessment.

My baby's used to grunt, never had any other problems mentioned on the video... I just had the instinct to take my shirt and my bra off to bond with them watched them fall sleep till they slobber and snore. IT ALWAYS WORKED FOR ME. Specially with there heads turned to the side but face down.
My baby is also grunting but only does it occasionally. Almost sounds like purring. He doesn’t snore or sleep loudly.

@@ariannadhaarmik1864 I had him sleeping on my chest sometimes and I was on 2 pillows. We also bedshare/cosleep. It worked or just having him sleep next to me in the bed. The risk of bedsharing is up to you. I did a video on that.
He’s now almost 11 months and sleeps better than my first child so it won’t last forever.

Same here. Though he still does it now and then but as soon as I put him on my chest, he sleeps normally and until he’s in deep sleep, I then move him to bed. He’s 6 weeks
Grunting is normal too, both my newborns did that sound after they were born.

@P S your nieces pediatrician needs to contacted. It's always best to get her checked out even at the slightest feeling that something is wrong. Better safe than sorry.
It’s sounds just like that my baby was grunting for a while when she had fever so I took her to the er and she needed and antibiotic shot

I think, if a baby is grunting, he/she wouldn't be able to cry.. as grunting means lung/breathing problem. while babies who are crying indicates ability to breath properly.
My baby did this type of symptoms in sleep.
But the children specialist said it's totally normal for infants to do it he said.

They can talk to you, you just have to know how to listen. There body language & there sounds is what you have to be in tune with at this age, & trust your instincts a little. You'll get more right then wrong. And when you children grow up string & healthy You'll have a wonderful, living relationship with them, because you took the time to know your baby fro. The beginning.

I THOUGHT THE GRUNTING WAS SOMETHING HAPPENING IN MY OWN BODY AND I GOT CONCERNED
But newborns will also hold their breath for different intervals, breath heavily with their diaphram, do large inhales and exhales all just figuring out their whole breathing thing. Like these are "warning signs" but they are also just things newborns do to figure out life out here.

@@aimankhalid5222 if the jaundice is a problem then the doctors will let you know and give the proper care baby needs. My daughter had jaundice pretty bad and had to stay in the incubator under the lights in the hospital for 4 days. When it still wasn't better we were sent home with a bili blanket we had to use for two weeks. All you can really do yourself is making sure they're fed well and have a good amount of poops. Pooping helps get rid of jaundice. Also we were told to bring our daughter out into the sunlight for a lion bit a few times a day which helps too. Your doctor will let you know if the jaundice is a problem and if more care is needed. If they didn't instruct you to do anything then it's not a worry. Majority of babies are born with some level of jaundice but once they start eating and popping it will usually clear up.

My baby had jaundice, I kept telling the dr that the white part if his eyes were too yellow and I really didn't want to be discharged(he was two days old). We had to go back a week later for him to be put under phototherapy. .the dr said that at the time,his levels were normal.. I just knew. Trust your gut .

Physiological Jaundice is normal in babies from day 2 to day 14 . And many go home safely .
You need to see a dr. if your baby develops jaundice in the first 24h of his life , if his physiological jaundice persists more than 2 weeks , or if he becomes lethargic,drowsy, feeds poorly ..ect . They'll check the Bilirubin level & if it's high he'll be put under phototherapy .

My son was kept for phototherapy for infant jaundice on the 4th day after he was born and then discharged in 24 hrs....we took him to home and came after 2 dats to check the bilirubin levels ot was quite high.. again he was kept for phototherapy....but then i came to know that my feed was not enough and due to hydration issue the levels got quite high..so parents if ur babies bilirubin levels are not going down ...do once check your feed ... dehydration can cause high bilirubin in newborns
I lost my baby last week, just barely 24 hours after birth. Baby was ok, after a while she became motionless, no pulse. Efforts were made to resuscitate her but to no avail. Please what could have been the problem? I need answers please. Though before then glucose water was given to her but she had difficulty taking it in. A tube was put down her inside to suck out the fluid.

My baby has all of the breathing ones all of the time 😓 he has a lot of complex needs and is very poorly. It’s very hard to distinguish when my son actually needs medical attention due to this, as he usually does these things even when he is considered well! So when we go into hospital all the staff panic if they don’t know him! It’s very scary for other people as these are the usual warning signs

My baby died due to distress which was picked up straight after giving birth...he only lived for a week in NICU..
is grunting a continuous noise ? sometimes my baby makes a weird noise but it’s only when he’s waking up and stretching or moving around, it kind of sounds like the grunting, but it’s not exactly like it, and it stops only after a couple seconds if that, so I don’t think it’s grunting, but was wondering if grunting is a continuous sound over and over again.

During labor and through the birth canal, fetus' catecholamines are substantially elevated, promoting clearance of fluids from the lungs. There is some elevation during late gestation as well, which is why preterm babies are at greatest risk for breathing problems in addition to surfactant deficiency.

Video only took in consideration of caucasian babies. Dark-skin people and babies may exhibit signs that are like cyanosis but are not. The same for erythema and pallor.
cyanosis tends to make the fingernails blue and the area around the mouth gray or very pale..maybe they check that way
@@hopeful_krystal Even it my nursing textbooks. They look at both signs for Caucasians and non Caucasians for cyanosis. This is why it's important to not really on UA-cam videos on conduct personal research. UA-cam videos can medically and terminally be inaccurate

When the lower parts of the airways and the little airsacks at the end of the airpipes in the lung collapses eg. with infection in the lower part of the lungs (pneumonia), it causes respiratiry distress due to less oxygen taken in by the lungs. In order to increase the pressure, to open the airsacks and distal small airpipes, the baby involuntarily and instinctively partially closes the upper part of the throat at the level of the vocal chords in order to breath out against resistance - thus increasing the pressure backwards in the lungs and thus opening up more of the collapsed airsacks and distal small airpipes to allow absorption of more oxygen. This exhaling against a partial closed throat / vocal chords, causes a grunting sound. It is like straining on the toilet! Try it yourselves to feel the effect of increasing the pressure in the lungs. In medical terms it is called peep (positive end expiratory pressure).
Not to be confused with croup where there is mostly no lung problem, but only infection and swelling of the vocal chords which results in drooling and barking cough and stridor with breathing.
Hi..we have a newborn who came out of nicu just over a week ago after being in for nearly 3 weeks..due to pneumothorax and they also found pneumonia a day later...so I was interested in your comment as it seems you know your stuff..and we are still trying to get our heads around what happened to our baby..we were under the impression the collapsed lung happened at birth and the pneumonia was just bad luck on top of that..but it seems they might go hand in hand ???

I want to respond to your question by saying that is difficult and also unfair to comment on any case without all relevant information available I would strongly advise to discuss with the treating peadiatrician all the concerns and questions you may have, for going ahead with questions unanswered could lead to wrong assumptions and speculations.
In general I can say that pneumothorax in newborns and neonatal period is not uncommon. Equally so with pneumonia in newborns. Pneumothorax could be spontaneous or as result of lung disease including pneumonia or occur during resuscitation or ventilation etc. So yes, the one may be complicated by the other, but not always so.

my baby was born on the 21st and had to go back for a jaundice test the 26, i just heard back that the test was good, there’s nothing to be worried about .. so i hope all is true 😩 this is really scart
with the physiological jaundice, it'll go away faster if the baby passes meconium (1st poop), and keeps pooping with good feeding. If blue light therapy makes no improvements on the baby within 2-3 days, it's probably some kind of hemolytic anemia-might require transfusion and further evaluation for diagnosis.

My baby is 3 weeks and he grunts all the time. It's usually when he is gassy I think. I try to pick him up and pat his back. Not sure if that actually does something to help, but after a bit he often farts or falls asleep and stops the grunting.
I’m glad someone commented this because my baby is 3 weeks old and he’s grunting. I’m taking him to the doc next week, but I assume it’s gassiness because he settles after I try to burp him for 10-15 minutes

If a baby has those breathing problems . It’s best to go see the doctor . I thought it normal for some baby but then they get stronger and stronger everyday . But always go see the doctor or pediatrician to go check up on baby to see if he’s going to be fine .
