I sought The Shade also, some months ago - I was confronted with the same lack of clarity of objective, but even more so, the evasive crocodile used in the swamp race. The last gold brick in Free Play I could find and it was nowhere to be seen. That, I would say, is a harsher challenge, should you seek to undertake it.
