Neil Young is the only human being that can get away with that voice...the combination of his songwriting and melodic genius gives credibility and validation to that singing voice of his. There will never be another Neil Young.
His voice is more relaxed here than with a band, which makes the high notes more pleasant. On some versions his vocal chords are tighter and the head voice has no vibrato as a result. Wonderful!

In retrospect, maybe one of the musical high points that SNL cast saw, and that was when Hartman, Farley, Carvey, Nealon, Myers, Meadows, Sandler, Spade, etc. were in the cast. Neil never slowed down after that either. He’s still the real deal.

Neil usually has another player do the Harmonics part but as you can see it can be done by yourself. It's not a hard part you just need the practice to get the feel & the hardest part is the final note in the progression. I am more a rock player but have always loved Neil's work especially this tune. I would share a bit though it's an older song I wrote for electric guitar back in my younger days .
