That's a tough one, you may have to replace the belt and pully, try not to let the belt come off, this engine is an interference engine, I think I would take it to a mechanic for that one
Main thing is I think the 2.3 has a carburetor and 2.6 has efi I will never get another carburetor car or bike again ( may be only old chev cars for carbs ) there are always differences with different capacity engines though
These belts are meant to be changed every 100,000 Ks, because they are guarantied to work for that period. They can and have blown at 120,000 Ks. Advising people to gamble with a blown engine to save a few hundred dollars is irresponsible. You say you are looking to find the source of a whirring sound but dismiss the wear line on the belt as insignificant ?????? Mate,,, I hope your engine doesn't fail but stop giving ill informed advice to people and get your belt situation properly assessed. Good intentions are not going to fix peoples engines when this belt fails.

What oil do you use in this machine? 10w30? How is it doing now
Penrite 40w 60 and all real good ( I'm in Sydney doesn't get cold so 60 weight is good ), the ute is in storage, too good to sell
